Genshin is just...to big. I never have any idea what's going on.
\*Edit to fix title typo: TOO big.
Genshin is too big atp and there's too many different things to do, and honestly since the Abyss I've not been able to play it enough to keep on top of everything and I'm just completely lost.

What do you feel like you’re missing out on? Like I said, it’s a single player game. Just do what you think is fun.
I mainly focus on trying to stay caught up on the main Archon quests and then do whatever I feel like. I have endless story and world quests I haven’t done, and I usually don’t bother with endgame (spiral abyss or imaginarium). I’ve spent the last few days finally 100%ing Dragonspine because the current event quest takes you there.
Just ignore the stuff you have no interest in. I saw in another comment that you logged in and got overwhelmed by mannequin stuff. If a game mode doesn’t seem interesting to you, there’s no shame in just ignoring it.
Also, the spiral abyss has been in the game since day 1.
Some days i log in just to get the dailies done, some days I'll do some resource farming, some I'll do some random character and team building.
You aren't falling behind by not doing much some times, just take it easy and find what you enjoy most
Everyone once in a while there is a standout character with longevity like Bennett, Chasca (can be built around 6.x reactions and pretty much any element combination and if you C6 over time, she has arguably the biggest C6 power boost among all 5\*), many of the 2-3 role support/sub-dps (Ineffa, Coffee, Furina, Durin, Lauma), etc.
My point is, if you are focusing on current banners, then your eventual player power will be fine as the new meta revolves around them but you shouldn't be expecting to compete with 5+ year veterans with high 3 digit or even 4 digit playtime right off the bat.
It's a great game, and I love it, of course. But I've already given up following it lol
Every region has the same basic structure, just copied over and over.
Main quests, some side quests, oculus/other collectible offering system, reputation system, sigil system. And fishing and Teapot if you're doing those.
And open world chest collecting, I guess, where 90% of the content is either "kill this basic mob camp", "follow this thing to it's destination", or "find the gimmick hidden nearby".
Just split the map into different sections and clear them one at a time.
