relatively new to the game and struggling to understand which characters are worth building and why, and which characters to team together. These are the characters I have.

You just started bro, try people out and use who you think looks cool. It’s not super important this early in the game. Plus your roster is pretty small, so you’re not going to get a meta team going regardless.
I do recommend running at least one healer though, Noelle and Barbara are good choices. You can give Barbara a book called “Thrilling Tales of the Dragons Slayers”, or TTDS. It will give 48% attack to whoever you switch to when you swap off Barbara, which is a ton this early. Razor and TTDS Barbara did wonders for me in very beginning.
Have fun!

Hmmm, you're kinda advancing the game a bit fast for not having many units. I'm guessing you're just stockpiling your pulls for someone in the future?
I think with who you've got, you're already levelling the good units (except Amber). Iansan is very good overall, but not with the characters you have right now. It's best if you wait until you get a good 5\* character to center a team around before trying to build a proper 'endgame' team.
Until then, Lisa is probably the best early unit for teams. Mix in other elements as needed to do different reactions, like Electro-Charged (+Hydro/Barbara) for groups, Quicken (+Dendro/Collei/Traveler) for single-targets, Overload (+Pyro/Xiangling) for max damage. Or even use her burst plus Cryo for Superconduct if you enjoy just spamming regular attacks on enemies.

Thanks for the reply. I am saving my primogems at the moment. Should I switch out the MC for anyone else?

Barbara, so you have a healer. But swapping Kaeya instead for her also works, if you like canonically playing as Traveler. Otherwise, you could try going to a Sumeru Statue and changing to Dendro element Traveler, for some new fun reactions to try.
Anemo for Swirling is good for some teams, but it's not super relevant until you get to at minimum AR 35 and can get a set of Viridescent Venerer artifacts. And it's 'inefficient' to farm artifacts before AR 45, so if you do go for VV you should only farm until you have a 4pc set for the bonus.

only traveler worth right now is dendro and pyro mc. But dendro is the best option bu far

You're at the early stages of Genshin so enjoy it. Experiment, to me any character is worth building if you like them, and if you dont its not even if they are really good as a standalone.
Many different teams for in game as anything works.
For harder endgame content its better to hone in on limited 5 stars and build around them
I've used the Kaeya, Barbara, Xiangling trio. You can put Iansan for Atk buff and cinder city set or Diona for shield and cryo resonance. Ive used Amber on 4 piece exile and Fav Bow to help Xianglings energy needs and the best resonance early (having 2 pyro in party means 25% Atk buff for everybody) it works. Lynette, can work as a swirler and her skill is great for exploration.
Kaeya, Barbara, Collei, Dendro MC for Barbara fridge bloom which is easy to build as that reaction only cares for elementary mastery reaction on proccing blooms and you get a free favonius bow and sapwood blade in game for MC. Can use Kaveh for on field
More importantly is good enough weapons levelled, talents, and usable artefacts. Instructor and Exile 4 set bonus are fantastic.
Honestly whose your favourite? I find it way more enjoyable to build around the chars i like playing the most

early enough to not matter just have fun, if you absolutely want to do the most damage regardless i always recommend Dendro reactions for new players as it has much lighter artifact requirements to hit hard, Hyperbloom is a good go-to and while Kaveh is a bit more of a regular bloom character you can get Collei for free by doing either floor 3 or 4 of Spiral Abyss which your already about the level for anyway.
Dendro reactions work by mixing Hydro and Dendro together to create a bloom from there you have three options:
Leave it alone: it blows up on it's own for fairly low damage unless you have a character that buffs it like Nilou
Hit it with Electro: homing attack that deals damage based on the Elemental Mastery of the Electro character only and should hit quite hard for an early account, the one i recommend doing over the other two.
Hit it with Pyro: explosion like bloom but has a damage modifier to actually hit hard, a bit awkward to do compared to hyperbloom as pyro eats up the dendro quickly due to burning and hydro eats up the pyro with vapes, certain characters makes it far easier to do.

Whoever you like most at this point. I think you’ll the team you have leveled up is solid. I have both Kaeya and Barbara at level 80 now because they are both useful ok my team.

Run the Traveler to Sumeru and switch him to Dendro. Then put together an Aggravate team using Razor as your main DPS, then Lisa and Dendro MC. For the fourth slot do the early levels of Spiral Abyss and get Collei. If at some point you can get Fishl, do so and replace Lisa with her.
You might also consider using Noelle in the 4th slot so you have a shield to help Lisa not be interrupted. Then replace Noelle with Lan Yan once Lantern Rites comes back.

It’s already recommended in other comments, but I’d go to Sumeru to get dendro traveller, slap as much Enery recharge as possible, Barbara, Lisa with as much Elemental Mastery as possible, and that’s a standard hyperbloom team. Very easy to do, and surprisingly effective, but probably struggle against electro enemies.
For the last slot it really depends, could be Noelle for shield, Kaeya to deal with electro shields, or Xiangling for some Overload/Vape/Burgeon.
