If Hoyo ever releases a buff for the Liyue characters, what would be the theme, and who would get buffed?

Who could get buffed I reckon would be:
Xiao (please)
Ganyu
Hu Tao
Zhongli
Xiangling (maybe)
Yaoyao
Baizhu (maybe)
Yanfei
Qiqi
Chongyun
Theoretically there could be a few others, though those are the ones I reckon would be considered.

Shenhe us another that makes sense to me, but the Adepti were the first thing that cane to my mind, as well. They’re a pretty central focus in Liyue’s narrative and their influence is all over the Liyue map

Shenhe is still good as a support for Skirk, so I don't see them buffing her.

A buff for Fischl wasn’t on my bingo card, either, but she got one anyway. Not that I’m complaining, of course. I’ve been using her in some capacity since 1.0

That didn't seem to be the way they were thinking about the buffs. Characters included in the Hexerei group didn't necessarily all need buffs (Sucrose, Fischl), and the way they buffed other characters did very little to buff their original intended role (Mona and Venti buffs making them better on fielders while doing little for off field support role). If a character included in the faction buffs is already strong but relevant to the story they want to write, they will just give them smaller buffs (Sucrose) or only rework abilities that enable a new playstyle while doing little for an older one (Venti/Mona)

Xiangling has all the rights to be there bcs she is trained by an adepti, hu tao is more questionable then her, ofc she will het the buff she is their sweet child after all

Xiangling definitely fits better lore-wise, but she is still a top tier sub-DPS, whereas Hu Tao has really fallen off as a main DPS. As for what connection Hu Tao has, she has strong connections with spirits, which in turn have strong connections with the Adepti.

Would like to see Zhongli(Just the meteor, make it hit hard enough to be worth the long cast time) and Yanfei since she just feels smooth to play and I like her. I don't care about Qiqi, but I think it's only fair she get one. Wouldn't say no to Xingqiu, Gaming and Xianyun, but I don't know that they really NEED it. But hey, they buffed Fischl.

Either Adepti or Mortals. Adepti would include Zhongli, Xiao, Ganyu, Shenhe, then maybe Hu Tao and Qiqi.

5\* buffs: Zhongli (adeptus), Xiao (adeptus), Ganyu (half-adeptus), Qiqi (revived by an adeptus/immortal), Shenhe (disciple of an adeptus/equal in terms of strength), Hu Tao (connected to the Adepti through Zhongli)
4\* buffs: Yanfei (half-adeptus), Chongyun (related to Shenhe, interested in the adepti), Yaoyao (Ping's disciple, training in the adeptal arts)
I did not include Xianyun because she doesn't really need a buff imo. Her C2 in particular is already very strong for plunge units. Zibai was also left out for obvious reasons, she's literally brand-new and will most likely get buffed naturally through new units being released who synergize well with her.
Ningguang definitely deserves a buff too, but her connection to the adepti isn't very strong.

Ganyu, Hu tao, Xiao will get buffed. But if it requires two of them to be on the same team it won't be a very useful buff.
They'd need to buff some 4 stars that go with them. XQ might help for HT. Not sure what you can do with the others. Buffing Xiangling would be a weird choice.

Keqing and Ningguang are the two most obvious buff targets and they are still holding 4 of the "seven stars" up their sleeves. You have to wonder if it will be Qixing related. You could probably count Ganyu and even Yanfei/Beidou/Xiao as being loosely related to the faction from their ties with Civil Affairs/Wangshu Inn and the like.
Fuck it we all know they're gonna buff Xiangling too, Xiangling gets elected as the Cooking Star and reigns supreme in the meta for 5 more years
