Paimon is Jesus/Phanes/HP and we are Peter the Apostle Crackpot Theory
To preface this, I'm Catholic so a lot of the biblical/religious themes kinda line up with my beliefs and things I've been taught growing up. Thats where this theory came from. A single line in the bible that, if true, makes a whole lot of things line up.
The line: John 1:14, The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
This context of this verse is the re-telling of Jesus' life on Earth; its written from the perspective of someone alive after the events of Jesus' life took place. What makes this verse stand out to me is that "The Word" is capitalized; its a title. The word for... word... in ancient greek/Latin is "Logos" and in Genshin, we have a wonderful artifact type called the circlet of Logos; the hats for your artifact sets. Its already been mostly confirmed that the artifact types correspond to the shades and Phanes, so we can take Phanes and substitute him in for "The Word" in John 1:14 and we get a new meaning.
Phanes became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. If Phanes takes on the role of Jesus, then we can look at Jesus' life to see who possible candidates might be for his "dweling among us" form and the one that I keep coming back to is Paimon. It has to do with who Jesus' main Apostle was, Peter. Peter was a fisherman before becoming an Apostle. Do we see the lines connecting? The MC is Peter. Fishing Paimon out of the sea has always been such a weird way to find her, but it can make sense if the inspiration for the MC and Paimon are Peter and Jesus.
So going with this theory that Paimon is Jesus/Phanes and the MC is Peter, we can draw more parallels with how Jesus and Peter lived and with Paimon and the MC. The biggest thread I can connect is the way both pairs grow and live together, they both have a teacher-student relationship. Jesus-Peter relationship is obvious, Jesus literally taught Peter how to be a Christian, build the religion, and lead it once Jesus was gone. MC-Paimon is a little more subtle, but its still there. Paimon has been teaching us everything about this world since we started the game. She talks for us, guides us, explains different things about the world to us... she never leaves our side, the same way Jesus would for Peter. One Jesus dies, Peter has to fend for himself and I think we are starting to see that in Genshin; we are starting to get quests where Paimon is specifically being told she needs to let us go alone; foreshadowing that one day, she wont be there anymore and we will have to figure it out on our own.
Speaking of foreshadowing, what does this theory mean for the rest of the story. I think it gives us a new way to look at Dain's Trevail trailer line, "command me to step aside, show me that you are worthier than I to rescue her." Phanes may not be the big bad evil guy we think he is. What if he is actually protecting Teyvat and is in the right? All of these attempts to change fate and go against the HP could be bringing the world closer to ruin and he needs a leader to guide people to the correct path. Lumine would definately be going down an incorrect path and Dain's line could be Dain challenging us to show him that we are worthy to lead Teyvat. Essentially, the MC needs to prove he is the rightful first Pope of Teyvat.
Elephant in the room, "But what happens to Paimon?" Simple, she follows the path Jesus took and sacrifices herself. How/why she does so, we can't know yet, but for the MC to fulfill the Peter the Apostle role, Paimon has to die. It wont happen in the final Act though. She needs to die early so that she can rise again in 3 days (patches). 3 patches to allow Hoyo to connect all the dots and show how Paimon has been guiding our growth and the MC making the decision to take the Phanes aligned stance on Teyvat's future. Paimon will then return to the game 2 more times, one after 3 days(acts) and another after 50 days(patch). In the Bible, after \~50 days, theres something called the Pentecost. Its an event where the Apostles (Peter included) get give the gift of the Holy Spirit and are then able to speak in tongues; the ability for whatever the Apostles say to be understood by anyone, no matter what language the person understands. You can also look at it as the gift of words, of logos. Paimon's final act, in the final patch, will be to give us the full Logos powers of Phanes. We then take this power and use it to "Command" Dain to step aside and rescue Lumine.
