The skin is not a mere outfit change. The entire model has been optimized. His face looks so much better and also the hair style.

So, that is why it didn't surprised me at all if it's going to be well received in china.
The skin is bad at what it's supposed to do, which is offer a unique and different design for the character. That's the entire point of skins in games.
It still shares the same regal theme and blue color scheme as his default. It would be good if it was either a different theme **or** primarily white with blue accents instead of the same blue on blue that he already has by default.
Objectively, it **is** bad. It doesn't matter if he just looks pretty. **Everyone** looks pretty.

Unless it is. Which it is. Any artist will tell you that. Sounds more like you don't know what "objectively" means nor can you tell the difference between mindless hate and criticism. The fact of the matter is there are few skins in Genshin that do what they're supposed to do and this isn't one of them.
I wish they switched up the colour scheme more often, for example Lisa going from purple to green. Imagine Venti with a red outfit or Nahida with a purple outfit. Or archons with their archon outfits, maybe casual wear for characters. There is so much potential and yet 90% of all the outfits are black and blue and gala costumes.
I think this is also the reason Hoyo doesn't release nearly as many skins as they could--they could be making so much bank with skins. But I think they don't want to dilute the strength of original impressions of the characters. This could or could not be true, but it's my best guess.
Maybe it is just the fit?
I’m gonna buy the skin cuz I love him and he looks good but I find these criticisms quite valid
The outfit itself doesn't even look that good and even worse when you compare it with the default one.
4.X had to wait unti 6.3 (Luna 4) to get skin. This is long overdue.
5.X characters are the ones who doesn't deserve skins, not 4.X which weren't included in general model update.
Instead of saying who deserves skin and who not, you should rather ask why they didn't increased the amount of skins for Lunar Year. I remember that in one year they released skins for Ganyu, Shenhe and Xingqiu. After that they went back to 2 skins per Lunar Year.
Xiao will get one for sure since they always release at least one skin for Liyue character each Lunar Year.
As for Childe, it always felt like he is supposed to get one in Snezhnaya. He wears different one in Winter Night's Lazzo.
I only prefer the original when I want to feel his presence is announced. Come to think of it, I believe he has a line saying his current outfit isn't something he actually likes and that it just commands attention regarding to his position.
Ignoring the clothes and the hairs, and focusing only on the face... I'll be honest, if you told me left screenshot was 420p and right screenshot is the exact same face but 720p, I'd believe you. Like, looking even more closely, the lower part of his face does seem larger, but outside of that it's the same but slightly better quality.
Can we get him wearing Claude's pajama(?) instead?

I'm drawing a comparison to another Hoyo skin that went through a similar divisive dichotomy.
Genshin EN fandom always feels like that, just a worthless, miserable group of people feeding on each others' negativity, hating on stuff to distract from the fact that their own lives suck.
I really hate that I was cursed to be in the EN fandom often.
I'm no longer F2P for this.
But it doesn't fit the game's theme + another blue skin. Not a fan due to that alone.
Personally, I like the original more.
He, Xingqiu and Furina look like they went to the same designer that just copy pasted the design.
Not to mention his legs look like long toothpicks.
