Question about the capturing radiance mechanic that keeps confusing me and in need of some clarification if possible.

So I had capturing radiance happen after 20 pulls on xilonen banner yet I never had it happen before. From previous information it's supposed to have a chance of happening on banners when you lose a lot yet my previous pull was nefer during her banner. Won the 50/50 then. No guarantee or radiance and before that I got lauma on a guaranteed back when nod-krai came out. I've had decent luck with banners but never once have I encountered the capturing radiance mechanic till atm.

First question is why did I get capturing radiance on a 50/50 if I won a previous 50/50 if it's not apparently supposed to have a chance to trigger unless I lose or something?

Second question is this passage in information about the mechanic

"Capturing Radiance does not affect your existing pity or any guaranteed pulls. If you pull in a banner and lose the 50/50, your next 5-Star Character will be guaranteed and Capturing Radiance will not be triggered." What does that mean exactly? Like if I was on a counter of 20 (like I was when it happened) does it not count? Or does it count still and reset the pity? I would think the latter but the wording is a bit confusing. The radiance not triggering during guaranteed banners is understandable since why would it trigger when the character is already guaranteed at that point but the other section before it is what's throwing me off some.

If you have won the 50/50 you are at score "0",

When you lose the 50/50 the score increases to "1"

The next 5 star is guaranteed like usual without the intervention of CR which is what the passage refers to.

Capturing radiance ~~only~~ usually comes into play when the score is "2" or "3" as a result of successive 50/50 losses.

There is a probability of triggering is really high (probably around 75%) at "2" and it is guaranteed to trigger at "3".

Edit: It appears that it is actually possible to trigger CR even at 0 and 1, although it is extremely unlikely(0.018%).

Winning a 50/50 substracts 1 from the counter (cannot go below 0).

Triggering CR resets the counter to 1.

It's still possible at a 0 and 1, just *highly* unlikely. In the ingame details, the base rate for Capturing Radiance is listed as 0.018%. If it only existed at a 2 or 3, OP wouldn't have been able to trigger CR after winning the 50/50 on Nefer

Ah okay so I just got stupidly lucky on the cr triggering as I been keeping tabs on my pulls and I don't pull every character that pops onto the screen. I test and see how they do usually or if they have exploration benefits or are a archon/dragon sovereign (like zhongli and neuv), or if I need more for an element type. So seeing the cr triggering when I've been lucky all through 5.0 and into now was a shocker but made me confused as I thought it wasn't supposed to happen unless I was at a cr2-3

Your're right, I just checked it ,this text was added later, it appears it is indeed possible to trigger CR at every 50/50.

That's the weird part. I have been mostly lucky with my pulls like the guaranteed lauma one was when I lost ineffa (first debut). Before that had won mavuika, her weapon too (I know that doesn't count towards character ones or radiance just giving a line up of what I've gotten so far since the mechanic was introduced.) , won citlali before that, didn't even pull on chasca at the time, won varessa (debut banner), won mualani. So by that logic my cr should have been at I think......2? Or 0? Since 3 is guaranteed radiance while 2 is 75% yet the cr is supposed to go down if winning 50/50. How could I get capturing radiance if I kept getting lucky with pulls?

I got a capturing radiance right after I got Skirk so I don’t think you have to lose first to get it.

The counter's behaviour when losing or triggering CR is not as you describe.

Winning the 50/50 substracts 1 from the counter, it does not reset it to 0.

Triggering CR resets the counter to 1.

The only way to reach 0 is by winning a 50/50 without triggering CR while the counter is 1.

I meant when it occured I was at 0 CR since I kept winning 50/50s didn't say the cr triggering didn't make it go up to 1 again.

Capturing radiance can trigger any time you lose a 50/50 but the chances of capturing radiance triggering increases with each 50/50 loss until capturing radiance is guaranteed to happen after three consecutive 50/50 loses.

So you initially lost the 50/50 on the Xilonen banner but triggered capturing radiance and got the limited 5 star.

As for the second question I can’t see the source you’re quoting but the pity does reset after triggering capturing radiance. I think they mean the guarantee is not affected so if you lose 3 50/50s in a row you are essentially guaranteed for your next two limited characters. Once for the guarantee from losing a 50/50 and then again guaranteed to trigger capturing radiance on the next gold after that as well.

(Scroll down a bit) I know the basics of cr though never realized it could happen even on cr0 (which I was at since I only ever lost once since 5.0 when ineffa came out before nod-krai. After that got lauma then nefer. Which would have put the counter to 0. I know it can't occur on a guaranteed pity but I was wondering if it meant like the pity I was at for the current 50/50 going to 0, not the CR going to 0 when capturing radiance triggers at any point. I would think it does go to 0/90🤔
