There really isn't anything extremely important these last patches, you have two new endgame modes: imaginrium theatre and stygian onslaught but those are fairly easy to understand with the in game explanations, there are regional gimmicks, but those are the normal stuff and nothing more honestly. End game caters to the newly released dps and character locked mechanics but I don't think you need to involve yourself with end game, considering where you are in terms of progress, I say you advance in archon quest, take your time and explore the regions, you can always quick start events if you don't mind the minor spoilers for future missions and the upgrade on the treasure compass makes exploring the new region fairly easy.

New areas have teleport waypoints unlocked by default near the area, if you want to jump ahead to a future region. You can do stories out of order if you do the quick start option. If you care more about primos than storytelling, the most recent quests have limited time primogem rewards for completing the story within the patch it releases. For example the current chapter of the archon quest is worth 500 primos but only if you complete it this patch (9 days left as of writing). They have added tons of other quality of life things like not needing to do the purple daily quests anymore and they added another world level, so go do the ascension quest to make raising characters easier if you are high enough AR for it lol.
