Returning to Genshin in 2026
Hi everyone. Firstly, I'm sorry for my bad grammar (English isn't my first language).
I've decided to return to the game after a lengthy hiatus. I stopped playing before Natlan was released.
I won't consider myself a hardcore player and play mostly for the story, exploration, music, vibes and characters.
Can you give me any advice before starting Natlan? How is the exploration there? How is the story?
I've heard too many bad things about Natlan but mostly there were complaints about character designs (which seemed fine to me) and "pay 2 enjoy exploring with Mavuika's bike".
I'm mostly concerned about that and also character progression. Are ascension materials still tied to certain days of the week? Or devs somewhat streamlined that "feature"?

You'll get used to the exploration gimmicks quickly. Use the Saurians as much as possible when you explore, they are the best if you don't have any Natlan characters.
As for materials, there's a 7 day period after a new banner where everything is accessible every day. So after the new update is live, you can farm as much as you want on any domain, getting any material you want
The game generally has just gotten better over the years, and Natlan is no exception. You've already noticed that one of the complaints weren't valid (characters designs), and you will quickly notice that is the case for most of the "critique" you've read online.
Most of the Natlan characters had some sort of exploration gimmick tied to them, but it can be easily replicated without said character.
In my opinion, Natlan was the best exploration experience I've had in the game. Take that as you will.
Characters progression are—in part—tied to certain days. However, if I'm not mistaken, the game has lately made stuff like talent books available every day when a new character releases. If I remember correctly, that was true both with Lauma and Nefer.
