Caribert and Durin, two lives that should have never been
So I just finished Bedtime Story (Yeah I know I'm behind on quests, I wasn't here from day 1 and I want to take my time and enjoy myself.) But throughout the quest, I had Durin in my party because I like to play through the archon quests with my favorite characters. And at the end there, I was just thinking about the parallels between Durin's story from Paralogism, and Caribert's in Bedtime Story. Mini Durin and the Caribert from Bedtime Story should have never existed in Teyvat (by the Heavenly Principles rules anyways.) But both of them yearned to make friends with the people of Teyvat, and both have left quite the impression on the world. Except while Mini Durin became the Durin we know now in Paralogism, Caribert was never given a chance, and had to forge his own life in the memories of others, without actually being able to be real with them. And this fact, only makes the Abyss Siblings point sink deeper, because why was Caribert, a sweet and innocent child, never allowed to live? But Durin, an equally sweet and innocent child was? And yet, I also think there is a bittersweet opposition in their fates too. Durin of Simulanka was a fictional being destined to become real, and he was able to do so with help from his friends, and being merged his with the being of Durin of Dragonspine. Whereas Caribert, was a a real boy, who was cursed to lose his humanity. And when he died, his father, unable to let go, made him into the not-real consiousness to become the loom of fate. Which he did, by leaving his friends and letting his last remnant of consciousness cease to be.
