Hoyo has some of the most toxic disgusting fans, I've been saying it for years. Nobody should be sending death threats or rape threats to a person who was hired to read lines out loud. From the toxicity to the pedophiles to the very vocal people with weird kinks, I have many reasons to not make conversation about the hoyo games I play and enjoy. Ik I'll get down voted to hell but it doesn't actually matter. The truth hurts some people and that's fine.

Those types of people are in *every* fandom unfortunately. The voice actor Laura Bailey got death threats because her character in Last of Us 2 killed the main character from the first game.
They're terminally online people that form para social relationships with these characters instead of real people, and they need some serious psych evals.

I feel the same way. This might just be my experience, but I hadn’t really encountered this level of hostility in fandom spaces before getting into HoYo games. It could be partly because the player base is quite young, which might lead to more surface-level interpretations of characters, but that still doesn’t excuse harassment.
People are free to dislike any character for any reason. They’re fictional, and no one needs justification for hating them. The issue is when that dislike turns into targeting real people. That’s what feels immature to me.
What stood out most is that I haven’t really seen villain fans treated this way in other fandoms, which is why this behavior feels so extreme in comparison.

Looks like the mods of this sub support it?

What I don't get is Dottore fans defending his actions or comparing him to other characters who aren't nearly as bad. Do you not want him to be an abhorrent person? Isn't that the reason his fans like him at all? 😂

I think there may be a bit of a misunderstanding, so I just want to clarify. I’m not trying to argue that Dottore isn’t an abhorrent person in canon. Most of his fans acknowledge that he’s a villain, and I mentioned in my post that there are bad apples in every fandom who are often called out by other Dottore fans.
Liking a fictional villain isn’t the same as defending their actions. The focus of my post was on how real people are treated in fandom spaces, not on excusing what Dottore does in the story.
When fans do push back, it’s often to correct misinformation rather than to justify his canon actions. There are claims that get repeated, such as him r@ping Collei or conducting sexual experiments, which aren’t supported by canon. Pointing that out doesn’t mean saying he’s a good person, it just means sticking to what’s actually written.
It’s completely fine to dislike Dottore or find him irredeemable. I’m just hoping people can separate criticism of a fictional character from how real fans are treated.

I don’t condone death threats or rape threats under any circumstances, that’s wrong…
But dog pilling or getting frustrated with Dottore fans? Yeah that’s pretty normal. They’re like the pinnacle of agenda posting and talking shit. Again, within reason, no one should receive death threats.
