It's a mechanic we got in early 5.x called Capturing Radiance. Its job is to increase your chance of getting the rateup, scaling with your 50/50 loss streak. It caps at being guaranteed to trigger after three 50/50s lost in a row
In your case though, you hit the *super* rare chance of it triggering without any 50/50 losses

and it was a radiance proc, basically you lost a 50/50 but the game said "no, u" this time and you got the banner character.
