She wasn't "trying," she had to take responsibility for her family's lifelong task and it was going to consume her if there wasn't an intervention. She had to do something a human hasn't done before iirc (last done by the adepts). Even with a failsafe setup, it still wasn't enough for a human to take on and it literally required an anomaly (the traveler) to circumvent fate.

I didn't get the impression that she was certain she was going to die - just that it was incredibly dangerous, and there was a high chance of it. So, she put her affairs in order, just in case.

She wasn't certain, but the possibility was there because the original sealing ritual had sacrificed an adept to succeed. They weren't doing the entire ritual like before, but essentially redo it a partial way to reinforce the seals. That's why she setup the doll system in order to help mitigate the corrosion received for getting involved with death. The problem was that still wasn't enough for a human to survive.
However, towards the end she was very much going to die. That's why they show the corrosion marks all over her and she meets her father & grandfather. She was in the "transition" phase for lack of better term, but the Traveler being unique was able to cheat code the death flag. It's a plot armor moment, but it is endearing to see a fan favorite saved and get stunning outfit so it gets a pass for me.
Also Zhongli aura points for always saving all his kids.
