Genshin on PS5 Portal
I've just found the PS portal and I'm curious, as it's been around for awhile, if it's a worthwhile investment for playing Genshin? How does GI play on it?
I mostly play at home, and the steam deck and xbox Ally are fairly well out of my price range, so it seems like a good option. But I'm still hesitant to drop that much money on the portal instead of just buying a new regular controller (which is why i was on the sony site to begin with. Lol)
(I don't like to play on my phone because the screen is very smol and it's hard for my old eyes to see well. 😎)

I want to be able to play my game while my children are watching the tv.
If a normal phone is too small for you, I'm not sure why this screen would be any better.

Enter the size of the screen, guestimate how far you'd hold it, and calculate the visual angle. Then, keeping that same calculated angle, enter the size of your TV, and it'll spit out how far away you'd need to stand away from your TV for the game to look roughly the same as if you were playing it on the Portal.
Characters and enemies on screen might look better, but since it'd be streaming the PS UI instead of playing with a native mobile UI, the UI elements will look even smaller than what a phone would normally show you.
PS Portal has no global way to increase UI size, which means you have to depend on the game's accessibility functions, and Genshin's, to be frank, are absolute dogshit (aka, you can't).
If you can't do the mod yourself (it involves desoldering the old sticks and soldering in new ones), there might be an electronics repair shop nearby that will do it for a fee.
Stick drift is a fundamental property of the technology Sony's official controllers use (even their $200 Dualsense Edge, which feels like it should be some kind of crime). It will always happen, it's just a question of when.
A modded controller will cost more up front, but you save money when you don't have to replace it.
I've tested Genshin on a 12" tablet, and it's not that much better than my 6.6" phone. Everything's still tiny. And the controls were worse, because there are no scaling or customization options.
I doubt an 8" screen is going to help much regardless of aspect ratio.
Then again I do usually play on a 27" monitor.
