What would you do if you were the dad in this situation?

Start a youtube channel with daughter streaming genshin and and make 100k a year.
Local-dumb-ass2026-01-05 05:57
Oh I remember this lol, was new to the game when this news came out and thought this was a common occurence, it showed up on my country's news broadcast for some reason
Also, didnt the dad say that he didnt even notice the kid spend that much money until a few weeks later? It's insane to even think about
Suniruki2026-01-05 05:59
depends what 20k is to me. But probably calling the bank and try getting a chargeback.
Tzunne2026-01-05 06:00
Just refund it, losing the account would be the punishment for 'stealing'... it isnt that complicated.
Kr4ckle2026-01-05 06:21
Ye, would do the same. Worst outcome could be that that account would have primogems in the negative if the paid primogems were used way before the refund.
Hojuma2026-01-05 07:39
I remember reading an update about that and he managed to refund the whole amount in the end.
SkyeRide012026-01-05 06:02
Didn't we already past that?
Kr4ckle2026-01-05 06:13
Found the daughter
Available_Dig_75452026-01-05 07:16
Good catch

That bill would be paid by my child. There would be nothing but the bare minimum until that bill was paid in full. Any child making buying those packages, let alone that many, knows better. Don’t get me wrong, dad should have a password on everything, but this child isn’t innocent. I would have died of embarrassment even thinking of doing this to my parents.
89 purchases?! That’s deliberate. One or two I could understand. Maybe you thought the card had been changed. It’s easy when there’s no password holding you back. But 89 is far too much. I would have been grounded until I was 18 and when I turned 18, my parents would have made my life miserable if I tried skipping the bill.
Admiral_Axe2026-01-05 06:20
That heavily depends on the age of the child though.
If she is 14 or something I'm with you, if she's like 9 that's on the dad.
kannazaki2026-01-05 07:49
Eh even if the child is 14/18 it's still on the parent. Only if the child is earning or working it becomes a problem with the child as they know the value of money but still spend that money and most family children aren't working at a young age so yea it's on the parent.
Maybe if the parent stopped paying everything using a credit card , it could be avoided.
Cause It's a credit card , most credit cards don't come with a passcode until the card holder sets it unlike Debit cards which need a passcode to use an OTP confirmation.
And ppl have to honestly stop using credit cards for every small thing and start using Debit more if paying by card is the only option they have & Credit card should be like the last option for payment.

The kid wouldn't have access to money in the first place. Parents need to learn how to be parents again.
Shahadem2026-01-05 06:47
That doesn't stop a kid.
Parents have to work, do housework, mow the lawn, use the bathroom, live.
It is not possible to monitor a kid 24/7.
Gold_Pineapple76442026-01-05 06:51
Why exactly a kid needs to have access to the parents card and password? If a kid needs something, ask the parent and they'll make the decision to buy it for the kid or not.

>Tell me you don't own/use a credit card without telling me you don't own/use a credit card.
Am I talking about only credit cards my guy? Okay, let me be way more specific since it seems to be needed.
Don't let your credit card hanging around the house for anyone to find. Don't teach a kid how to use it. Stop being lazy "I'm wasting my precious life having to type my credit card everytime I want to order a burguer" and don't leave it's number saved on online stores for quality of life quick purchases. Know what you're paying every month on its bills. Have control of your damn money for fucks sake.
Neospanner2026-01-05 20:44
Kids can learn online how to use a credit card, and they can watch for opportunities to steal a parent's card. Heck, they don't even need the physical card to buy stuff online - just memorize or copy the numbers.
Was the $20,000 incident the result of negligence, or just a particularly crafty kid? I don't know, but it could go either way.
Tschmelz2026-01-05 06:57
Gotta set parental controls and all that. While you’re not wrong that you can’t monitor 24/7, you can at least make it difficult.
Riersa2026-01-05 07:23
You don't need to monitor them 24/7, just don't give them access to your card. Give them set amount of allowance.
zzzuwuzzz2026-01-05 07:52
Credit card account keep track of all transactions. This is on top of banks usually allow charge back in 60-90 days. If the parents not even look at their bank account during those interval, that is just financial irresponsibility.
ChaZcaTriX2026-01-05 14:08
Setting a payment password is basic safety.
And it's literally easier than putting cleaning supplies, knives, and meds out of a child's reach - all things we consider basics.
Fantastic_Stay80592026-01-05 07:47
My parents gave me access to all their bank accounts when I was 12, I've never misused it..
Gold_Pineapple76442026-01-05 08:05
Cool, you're an exception. I still disagree that you should have had access to that money though.
Anyway, because it worked fine for you, should that be the norm for everyone? I don't think so. Give the kid an allowance if they help doing chores in the house (like at least keeping their room clean) and that's it. Nothing more.
Fantastic_Stay80592026-01-05 08:06
Different parenting methods, different people. You shouldn't go around tell parents who are trying very hard to raise their child right that they aren't raising their child right which just makes them very anxious
Gold_Pineapple76442026-01-05 08:14
No, we can very much criticize parents and people that normalize giving unlimited access of money to kids. It worked out fine for you, but most kids will grow up not learning the value of money and work because they always had what they wanted without consulting anyone.
Fantastic_Stay80592026-01-05 08:21
That's what I''m trying to say man, There's always exceptions in the case of parenting, Humans are very very unique creatures, different people have different reactions. We should only critisize others when it's abusive or negligent, not things like this
Gold_Pineapple76442026-01-05 08:43
By criticizing every parent that does this, we denormalize this practice. The world isn't made of exceptions, so this is a mostly destructive behavior, and when you notice the bad influence it had in the kid (you would only notice when they already are adults), it's already too late. But I guess now that's not "the parents responsibility anymore", right?
Fantastic_Stay80592026-01-05 08:47
Alright man
Phatkez2026-01-05 14:09
Leaving your bank cards within access of a child is terrible parenting no matter who it is, and anyone doing it should be told as much. Sending them to shop with a debit card to buy some milk and sweets has a bit of a limit on the damage you can do compared to leaving it in a place where they can grab it and use it on internet services with no cap. You'd only disagree with this statement if you're being a contrarian for rage bait or you're genuinely a bit dense.
Fantastic_Stay80592026-01-05 14:10
Ok
WootzieDerp2026-01-05 08:27
Lol same. My parents don't know any English and I helped them pay their bills etc lmao.
I_Catch_Fish_642026-01-05 06:46
After the daughter starts earning, ask her to pay back $20,000 and then spend that on genshin to get thicc mommies. Tit for tat
calmingteabag2026-01-05 07:00
Spending spree, nice words for addiction...
If it was me, no genshin nor any gacha for anyone below a certain age. If they are addicting to older people, it is much worse for young ones because they have much less self control. Also she'd go straight to therapy.
And how in the world she have access to his credit card?
kannazaki2026-01-05 07:39
Honestly if I was the parent in the scenario , I would be more disappointed in myself rather than being angry at the child and start calling the game predatory when I failed in my duty to keep my cards safe and out of reach.
I mean the kid isn't earning so if there is no money to spend how will the kid buy stuff?
So I would be angry at myself for letting the kid get a hold of the Credit Card as purchase through Debit needs a pin which obviously the child wouldn't know till I shared with them specifically but the credit card doesn't.
And what kind of a parent leaves their credit card lying around that the child has access to?
DunksNDarius2026-01-05 08:07
Im surprised no one said that its actually quite difficult to spend 20k+ with a single credit card as most have hard limits way earlier, at least where im from.
