Skin designs are different from the originals, it’s just the colors. It’s not a secret that genshin characters usually wear the color of their element. It’s could be like a tradition in universe as well, or they just lean on to favoring the color of their vision because that’s a big part of their identity.

Either way they usually wear the colors of their elements. It helps with identifying the character as well, players can easily know a character’s element. It’s just how Genshin designs them since the start. (Recently they are not as strict as seen with Lauma and Nicole)

Actually most of the Genshin characters seem to care about aesthetics. So they probably don’t like their powers to clash with their clothes, so that could be a good reason for wearing the same colors as their visions. If you want another in game reason.

The point is that there isn't actually ANY actual reason to make the skins also be the colour of their base skins.

We even have examples of characters like Lisa wearing green or Ning wearing blue with their skins. So it's definitely NOT a rule in any capacity.

And even if it was a rule.. they could at least adjust the colour balance or shades. Neuvi and Yelan for example genuinely look like they're wearing the exact same coulur schemes to the point that the skins look the same as their default skins. They could've used some lighter blues or used white or another colour instead of black as the secondary colour. Or changed how much colour there is, similarly to Diluc who goes from mostly black to mostly red etc.

It's just a shame that these super rare skins look kinda boring since they don't offer a meaningful enough change from the default skin.

Never said it’s a rule. It’s however a VERY CLEAR design choice genshin keeps doing for years. Like 95% of the characters match their element’s color. It’s one of their designs choices. Which have lot of in game justification as well if you care about that.

And Neuvillette is one of the last characters, who should change the colors of his clothes because he is supposed to personify Hydro. It would be like an archon wearing a different color. Even a lighter shade wouldn’t be ideal like Nahida wearing lighter green (it would look like Anemo) and lighter blue would look like cryo.

Rest of the character do change their colors “rarely” and it matches with Genshin design choices. They default to elemental colors and sometimes they change it, even with base skins (like Lauma, Nicole).

There is nothing stopping them from changing it as you said, but why would they change it? Elements and characters matching that is one of the most distinguishable design choices of Genshin.

Neuvillette has literally no excuse to not wear a DIFFERENT SHADE OF BLUE or WHITE INSTEAD OF BLACK lol. He isn't legally forced to wear only certain blues with black lol.

And that's cool for BASE SKINS that are supposed to show off the character. But for the premium skins that you have to buy and require you to already have the base character to use, they don't need that anymore, they CAN and SHOULD show off other aspects of the character.

Jean's skin for example is amazing imo. It changes her entire look, which makes it "worth it" as there is a meaningful difference. With Neuvi, I don't really care about the skin when the base design looks pretty much the same lol.

And if they wanted to stick with the specific colours, they could've changed the design instead in a meaningful way. Again, Jean looks completely different in her skin even if it was in the same colours as her base outfit. And Klee's skin is mostly the same colour as her base design but the design itself is so clearly distinct that it feels different. Neuvi on the other hand goes from a dapper elderly guy to.. a dapper elderly guy lol.

I suppose it depends if they are planning to use skins as a way of updating artwork. For example, when Yelan appears in Nod Krai, she is using her new skin and not her default. They wouldn't do that with something like Jean's bathing suit. If they intend to use this Neuvillette skin as the default going forward, then they would be encouraged to make it similar enough to be recognizable at a distance.

Additionally, there are some gameplay reasons to keep things similar. When Neuvillete bursts, the inner coattails extend extend to appear as water dragon fins with water flowing out before it rises up. They also appear when he is using his charged attack. So they probably felt this blue element needed to appear to maintain the animations and effects.

Out of the complaints I have about Neuvi's skin, the colour is not one of them (perhaps it could be a lighter pallette but not too fussed about it)

What bothers me is that in my opinion, the point of a skin is to get a new look different from the original. Even more so in situation like Genshin's. Since when you get a skin, that's likely your *only* one *ever*. It would be a different story if we could expect multiple skins per character on some type of regular basis, there'd be more variety. So having skins with varying deviation from default would be fine.

However that's *not* the case, so it's infuriating to me personally for so many skins to have the same-ish color palette and same core design/silhouette as their defaults.

Having their default colors are fine if they still look unique ofc, like I personally loved Xingqiu's, Klee's is adorable and better than base skin, Diluc's is amazing.

Neuvillette's is ine of the biggest disappointment not because I hate it, it's nice but it's barely any different plus it's arguably not even better than his base skin. It should've been given to an old character, not someone who already has a good, updated design

This is why I like Hu Tao’s skin. They changed the dominant color so it’s distinct from her base skin (although still has some brown). It’s refreshing. I also like Ayaka’s/Bennett’s because the aesthetic is quite different

But you’re right the silhouette tends to be the same. Yelan and Kaeya have fur on their shoulders. Ayaka has a big knee length skirt. Ganyu just lost her tights. I think the biggest difference is Bennett and Jean having shorts/pants. Maybe Hoyo doesn’t want the characters to be unrecognisable so they add similar elements, but in some cases (Neuvillette) it’s a bit too similar

I wouldn't even mind sticking to similar color palettes if the overall effect was still visibly different, like with a silhouette change or reversal of colors.

For example, if Neuvillette's new skin was primarily white/aqua blue/gold (like the accents on his OG outfit). Even sticking to those exact same colors, that would be a big visual difference.

That's why I like Hu Tao, Jean, and Barbara's skins a lot more than some of the others, because their entire silhouette or main color changes.

Ironically it seems when hyv is less obsessed about making skins palatable to the general public, the skins come out more creative and true to the character. Maybe cause the skins are free so they aren't too uptight about it, they can design what they like. I actually think Kirara's skin is one of the nicer alternative skins, along with Fischl's and Yaoyao's.
