Should IT give 2 characters per round?
As a welkin player, I have been completing the stars on this no problem except for the previous IT. The mode has been more stressful recently due to character pool. The problem as well is, you are forced to keep a certain character reserved for a specific floor otherwise you can't clear it due to powercreep. This mode is supposed to be fun and random team build but due to enemies having higher and higher hp, you just cant do that anymore. Either fix the hp inflation, or fix the rng on characters. That's just my opinion based on experience.

Yeah characters like Chevy and Skirk has made IT problematic at times
Yeah when they came out is when i started to notice, but only recently did the situation start to get actually bad enough to care; ascendant gleam need two, hex buff need two, bosses that need specific mechanics. I really liked IT but the future is not looking good for it.

IMO a good strat is. Get level 1 buffs > A good chunk of characters (variety is good) > Get level 3 buffs (provides each character useful stats) > Level 4 only the reactions you need for final fight.
Even when i can first try it, I rarely feel like i got what i want out of genshin's combat. I dont have a problem with hard endgame content. The game just isn't fun when you have to use clunky teams that dont make sense. Like sure id love get to use off-meta characters, but in a way that makes them shine. In reality im mostly just brute forcing with a highly invested 5-star with 3 nonsensical deadweights that dont flow together. All so that i can have a couple decent teams for the shill bosses. Im exaggerating a bit but thats what it feels like.
You enjoy IT. I don't. I do the best i can with the choices given to me. Sometimes it goes ok. Most of the time it means i have to make awkward and unfun teams.
Inb4 you come with skill issue bs: I cleared current one on Lunar mode, both arcanum and all 12 Stella obtained without retries.
IT is by far the worst endgame mode. The whole game meta relies on teambuilding, and IT restricts this through the element constraint and by being forced to run 4 characters.
They should at least remove the latter
I've had to reset runs completely because I kept getting terrible RNG
I also believe it's necessary to split the flowers into two types: one for purchasing characters and another for reaction buffs. Right now, you're forced to hoard all your flowers for characters until the final acts.
I managed to get 10/12 stars, but man I was tilted since the third fight.
If you're still doing hard mode, it isn't difficult to let buffs carry your weak teams to victory. I was even able to get 8 Stella this time on an AR 45 account (usually get 3-4 on it).
But if you're doing Lunar and Visionary, you really need to invest in all of your characters since you must prioritize expanding your roster before getting buffs. At the bare minimum to clear Lunar, you must invite at least 6 characters. Most of the time, I am adding 12-14 total to ensure I have workable comps with some modicum of synergy.
So in order to have consistent runs, you kinda need to be hitting 50k DPS on all of your teams before buffs. Buffs are less important than team synergy in Lunar and Visionary IMO.
Below is just ramble on my thought process this month.

I aim for full Stella so the requirements are slightly higher, but as long as you plan two character cores for each of the bosses, its pretty smooth.
Like for example, this time I knew Mavuika was only to be used on the Lunar stages, so my third priority was to get Mavuika specific buffers or hydro application. Luckily, Iansan was provided as a starter, reducing my need to two
Second priority was picking up a carry for each of the bosses in order, but not more than 6 fights ahead of time (otherwise there is a risk I might need them twice before they are up).
First priority is picking up all of the most generically useful characters I can. Like Beidou, Xingqiu, Yelan, Fischl, Ororon.
Characters like Arlecchino, Varesa, Neuvilette, Chasca, Wanderer, Raiden (crit), are pretty high value because they are team agnostic and can absorb the useless characters in your roster without problems. I tend to use these early, to give myself time to teambuild.
And I only start picking buffs after the second boss. By this time I have an idea about how my team building is doing so the buffs can be used to patch up team weaknesses in the 3rd and 4th boss.
At the highest difficulties, even assuming you have all your cast built/decent (like i do), you plausibly can end up not being able to choose your character of choice, which might compromise the later stages.
OR... you can end up with a skewed run right from the start simply because you could not buy characters at the start.
Another thing is that secret stash etc are a cool mechanic but way too random and unpredictable. You can have a very good run simply because of stupid luck, or a very bad one simply because of bad luck, despite your build/effort.
if it can help though, here are the teams i used for the boss fights and lunar stages:
act 3: raiden yanfei mavuika candace (raiden on field)
act 6: clorinde furina beidou xingqiu
act 8: xingqiu mona ororon arle
act 10: xiangling mavuika collei neuvillette
lunar 1: furina neuvi kuki venti
lunar 2: arle durin fischl bennett
I did Act 9 in this last IT with Aino, Chevreuse, Xingqiu and Xiangling. None of them have 5* weapons. They have 3rd tier artifacts.
I keep my well-built characters for bosses and lunar mode. Sometimes I have to burn a good support early, this happened to me this time. But I still got 12/12.
If the buffs were actually tied to specific strats, stats, or anything besides three elemental reactions, HP inflation wouldn't be an issue and you might even wind up with a mode people want to play *for fun* like other randomized/roguelike games.
I thought I'd be cooked at the crab but I managed to do it with a single hydro character and 3 electro. I crippled myself with Beidou and Sara (Yelan and Fischl carried), so I'm not sure I'm seeing this HP inflation.
Duck just needs electro charge and Kenki is whatever. I think the only time I've ever saved a specific character is Furina for the bird.
Overall has been pretty consistent for me, I usually hover over 24-28 fully built characters (90 9/9/9). I imagine it'd be easier if you get a solid friend roster, but I usually skip it after I got some horrendous builds.
Just use your flowers to buy one character and you get 2 per round.
