This scene was lowkey depressing
This guy gets mauled to death by rifthounds while searching for his daughter no matter what he does. The fact that the three people trying to save him already experienced some form of loss makes it even worse. At least he was given some closure

A great [Twitter thread](https://x.com/i/status/1998699379176182119) about Hyperborea
Since Durin is able to manipulate abyssal powers, he was able to create barriers that changed the choices made by the phantom in the past.
However, no matter what the homonculus trio did, it all ended the same way with the guy getting mauled to death by rift hounds
So, this phantom became able to interact with the trio and decided to talk about the future in his last 20 minutes before he became the riftwolf happy meal.
He's definitely on my list of NPCs I love, even for as short as his scene was.

Pretty heavy shit in this region with rerirs history and laumas method of healing people.
They were influencing the past
He will keep on looping and dying regardless of what they do, because he is just a reflection of what happened in the past.
They are not interacting with the past, they are interacting with a mirage of the past. What they managed to influence is not actually him, but just this projection of him in the past.
Because otherwise it doesn't make sense. They interacted with him multiple times, with multiple different outcomes. Sometimes he dies here, other times there, this time they talked to each other, other times they didn't.
So which one becomes the new past, because at the end there is only 1 past.
If the past changed, she wouldn't have noticed anything, because that's what the past has always been and her memory would have shifted as well. She's not a descender.
I feel bad for Durin, he was given the power to enact changes, but destiny is still destiny. Especially when he is still pretty young, and already meeting so many hardship.
This patch definitely have a lot of "dammit" moment.
>!Durin might be able to break some destinies now though. IIRC this happens before his SQ so he was still locked into real Durin destiny and now that his quest is done B said he had no designated path in Teyvat which could mean he can affect the fate of others now!<
To quote the SQ:
Seer-Witch: Hear me now, for my prophecy is this: one day, the dragon from beyond the castle shall be reborn, and none may avert its coming.
The prophecy is Evil Durin's revival.
"M" tried to overwrite the ending with Mini Durin's revival by having him leave the castle to become 'dragon beyond the castle' but Teyvat refused to accept this.
So the trick became to simply NOT have an 'ending' by leaving the story open for Durin himself to continue writing.
I expect the idea is that just like how Focalors prepared the answer for Fontaine prohecy by having something to handle the aftermath and not to prevent it, Durin can continue writing his story until the day come where he has a solution to deal with Evil Durin's revival.
He no longer is bound by Teyvat's laws of fate if Barbeloth can not see anything in his future than his fate of Evil Durins revival is gone and overturned existing outside of fates grasp he might be able to influence people in Teyvat like how a Descender.
Sure, maybe Durin could try to influence things, but as shown with this one the man still die.
Even Durin own fate not being among the stars could simply be fate biding its time. The prophecy only foretold the revival, not the when. Some day when Durin's story 'end' then fate could come in and go 'right, back to MY turn' and bam Evil Durin.
Heck, even with Traveler's involvement Fontaine still flooded as prophesized (if anything we might've even accelerated it with putting Furina on trial)
Since Mona's island gimmick was time travel, you could go to the past version and leave clues to him, which eventually saved him but you end up finding his diary somewhere else where he died again, you repeat the same thing a bunch of times to realize that its eventually pointless because he'll die anyways (if you finish all of it, he ends up leaving the archipelago and dies in dragonspine)
The conclusion of the quest wasn't that Wolfgang died several times, but no matter how we "changed the past", the original Wolfgang still died in the first trap.
Fatui still were able to access the island by 2.8, so yeah
That’s why people ended up trapped and died there. Like the Inazuma trips and the maguu kenki that was left behind.
its been seen in genshin multiple times- and will be seen again. its been seen in hi3. in hsr. and probably in zzz.
theres going to be a lot more of this in the story. afterall, the abyss twin is actively working to recreate khaenriah (by uploading all the memories into the ark key).
Foggy white things we saw were probably not yet made version of hyperborean version of abyss monsters
glad he found some kind of peace :(
I would genuinely cry if they did this.
Fuck the Razmaspes then. Fuck the Razmaspes now. Fuck the Razmaspes forever.
