Rerir, archon quest Song of the Welkin Moon: is the rest of the game going to be like this?
So I'm a new player, I've enjoyed Mondstadt, Liyue and I was going through Inazuma and I've been enjoying the game... Until I decided to go through archon quest Song of the Welkin Moon in Nod Krai to get the rewards for the event and planning to pull on Columbina / Ineffa.
Guys I got no words, this "quest" and the whole experience is terrible, right now I've got an endless cutsceene running in the background with the audio muted, it's been like this for 2 days of escurciating cutsceenes with no gamplay other than a terrible chess mini game... All the parts of Nefers are so bad... I just wanna this stuff to end.
So as Genshin is an old game and I was probbly playing just the old content, is all the recent "gameplay" supposed to be like this? If I pull on Columbina will I have to endure other ~~questes~~ forced content?
I'm still in time to roll on Varesa / Xilo I guess, then I may give up as I progress through the game, there's no way I'm starting the "A Nocturne of the Far North" if that's more of this, I renunce the 500 primos but problem is if the content / mats for Columbina / Ineffa are going to be gated behind the completion of this content.

Just last week I was in the mood to return ot fontaine but everything was 100% but yay, 4 character quests still open to do and I enjoyed them so much because it was revisiting a previous region, re-visiting charas from back then, etc. even though I don't care the slightest for the character the story was about. I would have never enjoyed it so much without the long break.
That's just Nefer though. One hour out of the 10+ of Nod Krai's AQ.
That event just gives you a lot of them
Let’s agree to disagree about th quality of the quest (I thought it was great) but the cutscenes are quite long
I ask because in WuWa if you don't do the story quest you can't even build the characters you roll for, access parts of the map.
did you seriously not play games with story? (ya, i didnt like the chess game midstory either, bring it back in an event)
i played quite a lot of games that were nothing but story
so Genshin length isnt really a big deal to me
should take way less time if you dont just afk through it
i go through it more quickly cause i read before voice ends. so im not really waiting patiently either
and im actually the one enjoying it
I'm asking if I got the wrong idea about the gameplay in the early game and if the incoming content is going to be gated behind this madness of "quests", I still have 2-3 zones of old content to play I guess, yet maybe I should avoid Columbina and Ineffa if I'm gonna stop there? Like Xilo would be good for exploration in Natlan.
I don't recommend going for the 500 primos if you are a new player. Treat it as a bonus, since this was introduced only recently.
Problem is that it sound good on paper yet not in gamplay: it will take me 5 months to get to the current story, meanwhile I can't partecipate to events that will not be available anymore, I pull on chars that require me to farm their zones.
So there has to be some compromise, the one that seemes reasonable to me was geographically based: just jump to the current area to be able to play today game while crawling up the old content.
Problem here is that I did not like what I saw further ahead, it's like WuWa.
That's bad for me, I gave up WuWa as I found Genshin more enjoyable, now I got some farming done here for rolls and it's really sad to find out this is going to be wasted time as well.
Dam.
Yet as I got involved with Nod Krai, exspecially the Nefer part, there was all the synthoms: walking games, traveling a->b->c->d->e... just to listen to cutscenes, even those dreadful **slow motion** where you are forced to stay there and push the joystick to get through, plus those other infuriating ones when the sound doesn't mute when you put the app in background.
I just wanted to know if that is how the game is now so I can organize my time as the progression in Genshin takes a lot of time and planning.
This eliminates all of the pesky story, exploration, and combat parts of the game, and gets it down to the core mechanics. Enjoy!
There is no reason to rush these quests for 500 primogems, you would get way more primogems by playing the game normally over the same play time.
Now I see that the current game is about Nod Krai so I decided that while I wass running thrugh the old content with calm (it's gonna tke me a while!) I had to get current on the latest zone at least to partecipate on events.
Problem is that the "content" there is much different with what I played throught in the early game, I really don't like the way "quests" are designed there, it's like WuWa which is terribble IMHO.
edit : you mentioned the nefer part so you definitely did the main story up to act 4.
But if 5-minute cutscenes are too much for you, I would maybe consider another game that's a better fit to modern attention spans.
I had no problem with quest in the old content, there was nothing like this.
first, Archon Quests are the main story, so are already cutscene heavy, the only difference betwen Nod Krai's Archon quests and Archon quests before Nod Krai is that you had to walk between point A and B for every interaction, They changed this in the Nod Krai to make the storytelling more smooth, Another Change they implemented for Nod Krai (and potentially future Archon quests) is they integrated Nod Krai Character quests into the story so parts of Flins and Nefer's story are in the Nod Krai Archon quests. You are able to leave and return to it later at any time (there are many checkpoints but they don't tell you when you reach them).
Archon quests are not your typical quest of hunting or fetching something, it's a story quest so it's more cinematic, and the Focus of Nod Krai is to tie loose ends of previous story beats and present more of the underlying lore that people missed if they didn't read item descriptions and stuff, adding to the way Archon quests are done in Nod Krai.
Some content may be archon quest locked, but more often Areas are World Quest locked which don't typically require archon quest progression outside of Inazuma. The only thing Archon quest locked in Nod Krai is unlocking the compass and visiting Columbina.
Technically you could just not do the archon quests. Even for weekly boss mats locked behind archon quests, you can join someone else's world and do co-op to get the drops. Certain things will be locked unless you do them of course like Pyro traveler and conveniently queueing for weekly bosses. With the exception of Inazuma and certain alternate maps like Enkyanomiya and Chasm, you should be able to get the majority of materials required for new characters. Nothing stops you from simply teleporting to Natlan early and getting mats for Ineffa.
I will say that the archon quests are a core part of the game itself and in recent patches the archon quests have only gotten longer. Since the start of Nod Krai, there has been a new archon quest every patch too. I don't see them adding a skip button any time soon either.
That is really bad, If I'm forced to do that to pull on Columbina and laters I wanna know so I can cut my losses, I'm gonna do my open world and world quest and move away.
Because to be clair this is what happened to me in a similar game: WuWa. I pulled for chars and I was not able to build them without going through hours of fluff: I ain't gonna do that no matter the downvotes.
When Columbina comes out along with the new Nod Krai area next patch, you should be able to run to the new area to start farming materials.
I did face the same issue you're describing in Wuwa cause I pulled for Chisa/Lynette and couldn't go to Hanami or Lahai-Roi to get their materials for a while so I get the frustration.
Long answer: Hoyoverse loves visual novel style storytelling. As their budget for genshin increased, they wrote more cutscenes and more lore-heavy scripts because that's what draws in new players(flashy moments.) There's some genuinely good writing mixed in, but there is unquestionably dialogue bloat and time-wasting sequences to drive up playtime
The game's core of exploration, character building, and combat is all anchored by the story. I think it's worth setting some time aside to actually pay attention rather than afking and skipping through, but if it's making you this angry, just *don't do it*
All the exploration, bosses, and world will still be accessible minus a few very small things(like columbina's cave in nod-krai)
It's also important to leave feedback in surveys and let hyv know you miss the shorter, more gameplay heavy quests from earlier in the game. I doubt they'll revert entirely, but Natlan and Nod-Krai have both done better than Fontaine for actually being interactive
And yes it will be like that.
I'd love to see a "world quest" that last days with actual gameplay, enviroment changes that has me doing things. I don't care at all about Nefer or the Rerir guy.
