A playable Dottore woild not be a good idea. An Evil Dottore as playable character won't work either. (personal opinion)
I know there are many Dottore fans. I like him too in the sense that he's been an amazing villain so far. And so, many wants him to be playable, and I can see where they are coming from. What I don't see is how that can be possible in the context of THIS game.
Evil Dottore is popular because he's a good villain. Evil Dottore won't work as a playable character. You guys forget that we don't actually "play" as the character we pull in the canon. We play as the traveler, at all tines. The character we pull and play are probably just the traveler's "memory" of them (but that's just my headcanon).
Nevertheless, we form friendship with the characters we pull. We learn their favourite food, hobbies, inspirations. We even help them with their ascention. All these things may not be an important part to you, you may want to disregard these mechanics, but they are a core part of this game. And all of these won't make sense if playable Dottore is still an evil villain.
Can he still be playable? Of course! But not as the Evil self we see now. Maybe a segment, who's not fully good, but isnβt a villain either. But I genuinely don't see how an "Evil" Dottore becomes playable.

He's still better off dead and forgotten though.
I did my part, now leave me alone
Not saying he will be playable, but if he will be, I think the good clone is the most likely route.
Whether or not this even is the reason (which it probably is i think) it feels like a poor one to majority of players i think.
And they better not redeem him, please keep him evil!
It's not even that surprising because he was said to forbid kidnapping eremites for experiments during Jeht quest and threatened subordinates with death for it.
I don't get how many people appear to love Jeht but somehow missed that lore bomb.
As for hints in the trailer, he pulled down the moon pillars during the fight >!that have a mechanic to use them to not get killed by his attacks. Like come on, a genius wouldn't do something like that unintentionally!<
I avoid story leaks, it's info about the fight but it's so obvious that I blurred it out
The playerbase would love it if evil Dottore was playable, he's super popular. But we all know hoyo would pull some bullshit and give us an innocent clone or something instead if he was released. And then it's like Theseus' ship, if everything about him is different, is it even the same character?
Then it was revealed that she was FORCED to act like a bratty archon, and most people save from a few assholes immediately regretted having bullied Furina before they knew the truth.
While it's certainly possible that Hoyo might drop some kind of sob story later on that shows how he was "molded" into being an evil guy, at this point every indication is that Dottore forged his own path every step of the way. He had no one encouraging him to do the things that he did, and while he has been punished or chastised by others (chased out of his village, expelled from the Akademiya), those actions appear to be well-earned - a response to terrible things that he'd done, rather than the catalyst that inspired him to do terrible things.
He sports a freaking Catalyst ΒΏ?
He's dendro or anemo
Elemental ability: sings a song so badly he inflicts aoe deafness
Burst: summons a slave that does zero physical damage
Whatever happens the outcome will lead to him being chopped characterwise. I can already imagine how ass his teapot lines would be.
They won't make evil Dottore playable, since being able to play as evil characters isn't allowed anymore in chinese video games. I'm pretty sure that's also the reason why they decided to turn the Faturi Harbingers into softies: otherwise we wouldn't be able to get them as playable characters. That's also most likely the reason why they're slowly turning Wanderer into a nice guy lately.
If Dottore stays evil, he definitely won't become playable. And if he turns nice, he's no longer Dottore. π€·ββοΈ
