where does it imply that the dev explicitly saying he is evil and cunning means he's pure evil and has no nuance? did you also know there's a dev talk section during genshin fes that actually talks about his other facets outside just being a villain?
have you ever paused to consider what the abyss twin for example has their goals set on? you as a protagonist? why are you framing as if defiance against fate isn't a central point to the mc's own personal journey? or for any of the other characters for that matter? you don't get to choose who this theme is a literary masterpiece for and who this isn't. don't be a hypocrite and dismiss it as one note just because it's done by a character you dislike.

Until the game provide us information otherwise, whatever shit you imagine are just your headcanon, and whatever the other characters did is a totally separate discussion. What is concrete is that he did very fked up shit without valid reason to be nuanced AT THE CURRENT MOMENT. Heck even the hypocrite rerir is more nuanced at the moment.
If you want to argue, pull out concrete sources from game text that clearly indicates that he have his nuances on all those shit he did.
We are playing Genshin Impact by Mihoyo, not Genshin Impact by leylensxx. Whatever they provided to us is canon, whatever you interpret or imagine, is ultimately not canon, unless factually proven via in-game text.
He criticized about how the sumeru scholars are over-reliant of the akasha system. That's fundamentally a different thing. It's like someone saying youngster nowadays are over-reliant on phones/tablets and you perceive it as that guy hating on phones and tablet. What kind of bullshit is that.
Either way, all these does not provide any so-called nuances that you mention.
At his core he is still the evil intellectual character. He is a narcissist who only really care about his personal gains disregarding any ethics or any human decency. There's completely 0 evidence of whatever he did was for "the greater good" or in fact any good at all besides.
Hoyo have repeatedly shown signs of his ego and superiority complex in both the Sumeru AQ and the current trailer. He essentially treats everything besides himself (THIS EXACT SEGMENT) as something inferior, basically an experiment subject, not another separate sentient entity. This ego and his lack of any ethics is what makes dottore attractive to some as a character. He lacks depth but that's fine, not every character has to be deep and have some tragic backstory to validified his/her motive. He is portrayed as a dick and he did extremely well as a dick.
Forcibly attaching nuances in an attempt to whitewash him essentially kills off this character, which some fans like you loves to do to justify themselves liking a evil fictional character, which is honestly weird as at the end of the day it's just a fictional character and there's nothing wrong with enjoying/liking one, even if he/she is portrayed as evil.
I'm in this argument because everyone is so hell bent on thinking he has no deep motivations or goals to what he's doing. even you are being reductive of the whole defiance of fate and gods as if that isn't the whole narrative genshin, its mc, and its main forces are built upon. notice how you ignored when I brought that up? it's one thing to say he's evil, it's another to dismiss his motivations as "evil for the sake of evil" just to convince yourself that he's a basic character and he has no other writing qualities other than a villain.

you are contradicting yourself, you describe his character with depth and yet say he lacks it. stop conflating depth with tragic and sad backstories for god's sake. the nuance here isn't him having good intentions, it's him having intentions that aren't inherently evil yet is willing to cross that line therefore giving him a compelling motivation.
and again you're proving my point, any discussion revolving this guy lacks nuance. a lot of you think a character lacks depth if they lack trauma, that saying he's doing evil things must be because he's purely evil and evil for the sake of evil. it's frustrating and thank you for adding as to why.
also before we fight dottore, i hope we can grill him for his actual plans. there's gonna be a horror section where childe, arle and sandrone find out that their soldiers got transferred into different bodies (like the vishap in the fatui lab or the lizard staring at scara).
i also hope that the return of bina the moon goddess and dottore doing a very convincing phanes/phainon cosplay is enough to alert celestia and maybe even jolt Heavenly Principles awake from their seat.
I won't be surprised if the gang managed to kill dottore, only to find out there's another dottore chilling in snezhnaya

Between his very sparse appearances over the years, I feel like even Sandrome has already gotten a longer combined screentime in Luna alone than Dottore has since Sumeru, and by extension I feel that Sandrome is a lot more fleshed out than Dottore has ever been.
The one thing he's undeniable known for is his utter and complete lack of empathy for others, as well as lacking any fear for the greater powers that be, but I can't say that he's been seriously explored beyond that. Did I just miss something, or is there something else going on?
There's a reason why Solo Levelling is that popular.
He's a cool character dont get me wrong, but at the current moment, he still lack depths, there's no deeper meaning to whatever shit he is doing atm. His obsession with knowledge, superiority complex and defiance to the rule of teyvat are all still yet to be uncovered. It may very well be that's just the person he is but then it would honestly make him just a cliche evil character in a literature context, but kinda rare for Genshin LMAO.

I also think people might like that he isn't morally gray, just straight up vile in his actions. When we have so many characters in the world, it needs some characters like that as well.
personally, best written character is too much of a stretch, but he is a decent villain. it helps that his crimes have greatly affected many popular characters too so people have been baying for his blood since the manga.
Given the wording of the promo for Lunar Crystallise (think it was something like “Hydro and Geo Meet Again” or whatever) I kinda think they will. I really want them to because it’d be so interesting to see how they’d finally go about interacting with each other.
also i can't really see those two meeting each other in a casual manner, especially given how Zhongli was deliberately avoiding him in 2024
But I dont! Idk its so hard to hate him, he is super smart and entertaining. Whenever he is on screen, I feel tension and danger. Sure he has done some bad things but atleast he stays true to his own goals and beliefs, unlike some others who flipflop with their morals (Traveler). He is the end justifies the means to the extreme type of guy.
I also like Collei and Wanderer. Without Dottore, their stories would be less interesting.
I hope he doesnt die, I need him to be playable because he is hot.
