AI has been a part of people's lives for years already, they are TOOLS that we can use to increase efficiency among other things. Generative AI that steal references from nonconsenting people is one of the main issues.
Main thing is that in China, AI is so accepted generally, nobody gaf so much about it, there are however also better regulations such as no AI VA (not w/o permission at least, I recall a Tears of Themis VA gave perms for AI because they were sick).
ETA: Also the fact that works overseas have had better results than domestic revenue indicates that MW hate is just an extreme minority, it was always super obvious though.
In western society, large companies and corporations have more power, and less regulations. AI is being developed to replace workers so greater profits go to their CEOs and shareholders.
In China, there’s much more control over corporations and they value social harmony more. A bunch of people losing their jobs to AI would cause a huge upset in China, so naturally they have more regulations regarding AI.
We are burning the environment, economy and people's health because of some insane AI pursuit.
AI can be useful, but not at this cost.
I want to ask, out of genuine curiousity. What is it that makes pushing back on AI so profitable? What warrants such a persistent effort? And how can people push back for *this long* without stopping? These questions are what interest me about human or at least online opinion regarding AI, because it's often black or white, either you love it or you hate it, it's hard to find nuance about it. Is it also a cultural difference between us and China?
But I'm glad someone is pushing back against it, even if I don't agree with them. True that the US moved so slow, we often called it one step forward, two step back. I grew up in Vietnam where things are developing fast since the gov is an authoritarian like China. That means no rules and no pushbacks, and there is no denying that tech had grew so much in Vietnam thanks to that. But since there is no rules and no pushback, human lives mean little in Vietnam. It's the little things that you cannot see it from the outside, and even hardly see it if you're in the upper class in Vietnam.
Yes, there are laws in Vietnam, but if you know the right people, it doesn't mean shit. Funny how it sounds just like the US , yea? Same shit, different pile.
Be it various Bio-Techs, New Vaccines, NFTs, Crypto, AI, Renewables, EVs... and probably some more I'm forgetting...
These developments get blamed for EVERTHING, nothing positive is ever posted, it's always protest, propaganda, disinformation and fear mongering around them.
Being in the gaming bubble, NFTs in example where never even given a chance. People just went apeshit crazy with scammers on one end and total boycotters on the other...
But hey, progress for the sake of progress is always good. /s
2. China already introducing classes about how to ethically use AI in educational system
3. As far as Hoyo goes, they invested money into Nuclear Fusion research which can help provide a lot of clean energy not just for them, but in general
4. It's quite clear that, as far as Hoyo goes at least (but honestly can be extended to China as I haven't seen much in the opposite direction), they actually trying to use AI, generative or not, more as an actual tool than replacement
China might have its own problems, but in relation to AI specifically, I much rather prefer their hand on approach of not denying its existence and usefulness while trying to regulate it, than just blind ignoring of it and letting it ran chaos cuz "it'll just blow over and go back to norm" which is the sentiment I often see online
Yeah, it will not mean it's perfect solution, still much better approach IMO
edit: clarifying
And I never said that you can't (I'm not telling people what to believe, just perspective I see), but have majority of those people actually tried to do anything beyond just saying stuff online then (to show they actually stick to their beliefs)? Cuz if not, those fall in the same group I just described who "just wait for it to blow over"
That's kinda WHY I say I prefer Chinese approach, cuz they DO acknowledge harm that can be done, otherwise there won't be laws or classes on ethics. And I said, it might not be perfect solution to the problem, but definitely beats people just twiddling their thumbs hoping for things to resolve themselves magically
Is genAI "Necessary"? I can't say for sure, the same way I can't say if cars are necessary, but I can say that both could be useful.
Also, thx for insults I guess? Definitely necessary for the conversation
I can see AI being extremely useful in medicine and diagnostics but forgive me for being harsh on it when it comes to gaming. Life is sustained on earth by water, not by data.. I can’t get behind it. I don’t mean to insult you personally, but the amount of people willing to just turn their heads to the harm is always disappointing.
As for environmental stuff, if we leave morality for a second, is, personally, an individually assigned problem, as some might find problem with something that others might be fine with (for example, just simple recycling Vs just throwing everything away together).
For another example, corn ethanol, which eats up a lot of corn produce (45% of corn cropland in US) requires 1000 gallons of water per gallon of ethanol and leaves carbon footprint too, but not everyone finds problem with it and is also dependant on where it's being planted and water reservoirs.
And, again, water waste IS a problem, just depends on whether people think it's worth it and, in terms of energy, if it's being replenished (which is why I bring up Hoyo's funding of Nuclear fusion research and reactor)
Also, Petit Planet (Hoyo animal crossing) had quite a good use of AI in the beta with chat bot guide which you can directly ask about any aspect of the game that you might need help with and it seems to be trained on in-game data and only respond to game related questions, so it would help a lot for people who might have problems navigating tutorials or searching stuff online
Yes More people need to learn about the history of luddism, so we can dispell the myth of it being Anti-Innovation/anti-new technology.
The luddite movement was a consequence of economic struggle (and partly unsafe working conditions). The rising motorisation of previously manual jobs meant that many previously high paying skilled jobs were replaced with low paying low skill jobs.
It should not be a surprise that having a drastic pay cut Or outright unemployment during a struggling economic time isn't exactly going to go over well.
New Technology was never the target itself, but the factory equipment presents the most direct target to show dissatisfaction and force the hand of those in charge.
Both had the potential to make projects not previously possible on smaller budgets, while enhancing well funded projects. However the industry rush to use them left extremely bad examples in the public's mind, thus CGI became a synonym for bad movie. However these days, almost every movie is made with the help of CGI
Main difference is I dont think CGI represented an existential job crisis like AI does
After that hurdle, AI does sound pretty incredible as a tool/assistant. Its a very poorly fitting example, but it'd pretty good at something like Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, with having all of this detailed information and being taught what questions to ask to give out correct answers. Iirc there is a real world case similar to this with mechanics I think?
But also just amazing for medicinal use and healthy care as you said. I think the main thing is still just that those use cases don't get enough media coverage to be discussed frequently like the more problematic stuff.
Also, with the exception of certain use-cases such as working out tedious protein builds, the use of generative AI in the field of medicine actually been a negative.
Generative AI is ***NOT*** *accurate.* It comes up with 'close enough' responses that someone else said that sometimes just comes out as wrong. Furthermore, consistent usage of AI leads to a loss of critical thinking skills. Having someone answer all of your questions for you instead of trying to understand *how* and *why* things work reduces your ability to reason.
>It kinda scares me how many people simply echo other people's opinions instead of doing their own research.
Oh the irony. People just echoing other people's opinions is bad, but I don't think echoing *ChatGPT*'s opinions is any better.
Generative AI is only *positive uses* is as a fancy procedural generator and a workhorse for churning out combinations. However, the average person's exposure to that is extremely minimal in comparison to all the negative effects churned out by AI.
Meanwhile researchers are trying to cure cancer with its computational power and getting actual results. But there's never quite any nuance with these people. They dont realize social media is a abyss void for them to lash out on instead of going out there and protesting or making changes IRL. It just feels so good to talk shit (like I am doing right now) instead of making actual changes.
"AI slop" is like the slogan of reddit. And the worst part? There's so much worse shit going on than some crappy art being used.
The 1% of actual good uses of generative AI (relegated to their own niches) doesn't make up for all the slop that is filling every corner of the internet and watching grifters use AI to scam people (kickstarter, uber deliveries, phising, scam calls, homework, etc), that's not even including the fact that people who constantly use seem to lose their ability to think critically because they just find the answers they want instead of working out actual logistics.
There's good reason people are triggered by the term AI.
I just wish that "AI" on it's own wasn't used as short hand *generative* AI.
Both of extreme sides that just deny each other really don't bring about anything. They refuse to compromise and try to find the best way to go forward, since they refuse that their way could be in any way or percent wrong.
AI can definitely be used in better ways, but if there is no enforceable pressure, it really won't, and there won't be that pressure until people start actually discussing the topic with nuance
Also, idk if there were actual studies on the critical thinking part, but, idk, I just feel like this was a thing even before with stuff like Siri or Alexa or Ok google that people used the same way. GenAi just seems cheaper for an average person, I guess. It's not like people only stopped critical thinking after GenAi appeared, it was a gradual process (Heck, how many people said this same thing for TikTok just a few years ago)
Like come on. How do you think your email organizes your mails, or who do you play against in Co-Op, or the algorithms know what to show you? All of those use Artificial Intelligence! We have been using Artificial Intelligence for longer than these most recent generative AI techs existed.
this sub in a nutshell
He is perfect
People in the West are still overwhelmingly anti-AI, and this includes criticism of ALL genAI, even if just a tool. Tools are partial replacements of human labor, that's enough to be morally objectionable.
I could see that being what they're referring to.
Sorry, i can't hear you. You talking about Milli Vanilly?
I just cant hear what they're saying
and i hope it never touch the main game
I'd say immediately boycott if you're anti-AI, but not like it will change anything... Just know to expect the worst, it's Dawei after all.
I need the Shenhe dating Sim route
I want that

AI!!!!!!
...content-aware exist even before this era of we overusing the word "AI"
Edit: Now aware its creator monetization. Will still call it Miliastra Slop/Flop.
Can we read before yapping ?
Hint: Milliastra is a separate team
People thought,:"not, that's impossible" and went to fight her, just to have their asses handled to them time and time again.
For example, if an enemy AI is programmed to walk 8 directions, melee attack, jump and die. It will only do that. Generative AI lacks those set rules so it can do whatever tf it wants, usually does not result in good game design.
hence why so many people are against it because the materials used to teach it are usually stolen from people's real, hard work.
Hey, you old drunken woman, you can't even fight me.
Sorry about that, but you can't
Chinese New Year theme, was shown in the livestream and will be in the game (I think in Milliastra?) and they made it a real statue for Genshin Fes
Holy that's crazy.
I've been enjoying Miliastra quite a lot, but I have always been more excited about the upcoming update that allows Teyvat characters to participate in "classic mode." I hope the stages can use the actual stats/artifacts/constellations of my Teyvat character, and the creators cook up some fun combat-oriented stages. This could finally pave the way for some fun raid bosses you can kill together with other people.
I don’t like, don’t care for, and utterly refuse Milastral Wonderland.
Easy pass. Forever.
Unless they want to absolutely shove primos my way to force me to brute force complete it, it isn’t going to happen.
It’s like… I like pizza. And i like ice cream.
But if I’m going to get ice cream and I get pizza, I’m going to be a little disappointed.
I like Genshin, and then there is this… other thing forced in with it.
But i *want* Genshin Impact. If that makes any sense?
on the other hand, some of these comments are also fighting ghosts without actually bothering to learn the distinction between AI support tools and the actual problematic genAI/LLM stuff.
Gen-AI is continuing to be used in coding, with huge productivity developments. All your apps, operating systems, and games have been likely updated using at least some AI-generated code. This has nothing to do with generation of art, it has to do with vibe coding, and if you don’t even know what it is, then please don’t even speak.
And people who hate on Dawei immediately, what tf did he do? I don’t know about any drama or anything, but some of these people make it sound like he killed their dog. Why are you even still here?
My <5gb storage space: Im tired boss.
Believable
>more profitable
Real objective
> more fun
[X] doubt
I hope they're talking about enemy/NPC logic and not "push button to slop"
