Intentional or coincidence ?Abyss in Chinese in Shenyuan. Allogenses in Chinese is Yuanshen. Different Chinese letters but they sound almost the same. Just change the position.
Tonal language, sounds vastly different when flipped backwards, but not too much of a crack theory as far as it goes in the sense that there are ways to justify this. It kinda fits the gnostic theme of genshin but I feel like is too on the nose.
Additionally japanese straight up just used the katakana version of abyss when it could’ve used the kanji version.

Chinese is an ideographic script. The pronounciation alone means little.

no.
"Sound almost the same" means nothing in that language. A lot of words sound almost the same. It's a language loaded with homophones. "Spelling" matters.
There is a famous poem where every word in the poem is some variant of "shi" with different tones.
