Hot take : Dragonspine is overhated and is actually fun to explore
The environment is unique, a lot of chests, musique is peak, its just beautiful. I can understand why its hard to explore for new players though (i explored at ar57)

I agree, has one of the best BGMs in the game too.
The sheer mystery and difficulty still makes it one of the most memorable aspects of my early exploration.
GodKira2422026-01-07 22:32
Yes, i gathered my friends to try and overcome the bosses and challenges. It's one of the places where i have the best memories, and the music is top notch
Dull_Engineering91352026-01-07 00:49
I KNOW RIGHT!! as a newbie it was the only place I would go to explore n sadly had to leave after it was 100% done the music is just so creepy peaceful i love it. Overhating n overrating r both qualities i hate about this fandom tbh but whatever can't change it.
Anxious_Cheek_66772026-01-07 00:49
far better than whatever the fuck sumeru desert region is..
LaplaceZ2026-01-07 00:57
Only because there was no map.
Kingpimpy2026-01-07 07:45
actually it was good because there was no map
i really dislike handholding in exploration
lumthedelulu2026-01-07 01:29
sumeru desert is great, however desert of hadramaveth shoulda been more hazardous considering its violent sandstorm
corecenite2026-01-07 00:49
it was only overhated when it was released because there have been no exploration hazards before it.
it's one of the game's "growing pains"
V1oletLuna2026-01-07 00:58
Yeah, there was no Mavuika or Chasca or Xilonen or Dehya aswell... shit WAS dangerous back then lmao
CoconutxKitten2026-01-07 01:18
And Barbara was one of the few healers, who is AWFUL in Dragonspine
le_gasdaddy2026-01-07 01:19
Relatively new player and she's my only healer for now. Getting sick of this lalaalaalaa
CoconutxKitten2026-01-07 01:20
Well, when you get frozen a dozen or more times in an hour while playing in Dragonspine, you’ll REALLY hate her
le_gasdaddy2026-01-07 01:22
Already been miserable through most of dragonspine indeed. Thawed and re thawed the shards and found the little kid's dad. No fun at all.
TheCoffeeCrowl2026-01-07 02:06
I mean you can go back to Dragonspine later on. It says "dangerous" The minute you walk in it's supposed to be a more challenging area of the map, I'd just continue around liyue or further for now.
Pure-Butterscotch2002026-01-07 01:50
I didn't mind her as she could help freeze enemies alongside Kaeya more than they affected me. Could also use Xiangling for melt damage. Noelle can also heal and there's always food too.
TheCoffeeCrowl2026-01-07 02:04
Being honest though, I do miss going into dragon spine with my Barbara during 1.whatever, I don't think I've really struggled the same since. Inazuma just has overly leveled stuff and everything after it chills out really.
It wasn't just hard. You needed to be tactile with how you went about your business. Also I just like the world quest. I can't explain why, I love when there's no hand holding because I get this feeling of being an adventurer on my own devices.
Dencnugs2026-01-07 05:22
Wait, am I suppose to be running a healer…
I just eat food lol (lv50 characters).
CoconutxKitten2026-01-07 05:35
Generally it’s a good idea, especially since many of the healers (like Bennett, Chevreuse, Iansan, Xilonen) provide other benefits to your team through buffs or resistance shredding
Kingpimpy2026-01-07 07:41
i mean... i went in there with klee and barbruh and had no issues lol
Pure-Butterscotch2002026-01-07 01:06
That mandatory time trial battle section against the abyss mages that keep freezing you as well.
FicklePangolin17172026-01-07 01:09
Terrifying to go there with my early characters three years ago. I went back with Dehya to clear it out.
Paulistarlight2026-01-07 03:09
I will go with my MavuiK C2R1 for vengance
Quor182026-01-07 07:53
It's funny cause the trick is just to use Amber. You throw down BB to taunt/distract and when it detonates it helps clear any ice that the abyss mages create. Then you spam charged attacks to break the shields and then the ice under/around the mages and they fall into the water and drown.
Amber is honestly the f2p GOAT for Dragonspine. She taunts enemies, can activate flames without needing to use a skill or burst, lowers glide stamina consumption, lets you solve all the archer-specific puzzles....she really is best girl.
FicklePangolin17172026-01-07 12:59
I have Amber C6 but never used her on Dragonspine. Never been a big fan of bow users…except Chasca
Nok-y2026-01-07 12:59
>Then you spam charged attacks to break the shields and then the ice under/around the mages and they fall into the water and drown.
Also her burst has 0 icd
It just melts the shields and everything around
lnfine2026-01-07 18:48
>Also her burst has 0 icd
No, she has standard~ish ICD (3 hit, but 1s instead of 2,5), she just has a lot of hits. so it ends up a lot of application (6 or 7 or something).
I think the misunderstanding about no ICD is from some fancy SO enemies that care about raw hitcount, not just application (like the Lava Golem)
Nok-y2026-01-07 20:16
I have been lied to for years omg
It's still nice tho !! Thank you !
Pure-Butterscotch2002026-01-07 13:33
I still like using Amber, she makes some fights seem more tactical.
Admirable-Volume-4042026-01-08 00:45
That's true, and how I managed to finish that time trial with the cryo mages cuz Amber was able to melt the ice and drown those fuckers with 1 second left on the clock. It was one of the hype moments I ever felt while playing this game.
Also fuck Gouba for targeting any direction besides the torch beside him.
this_is_too_muchh2026-01-07 02:16
I got Diluc as my first ever 5 star and he annihilated that Abyss mage time trial! He was so overpowered at the time! This is what made me hooked on Genshin.
thisbigdiamond2026-01-07 01:09
unfortunately i dont think hoyo will add much difficulty to the open world exploration.
there are some people who enjoy it and others who just wanna go in get the primos and get otu.
ononomi2026-01-08 00:50
We even got nein signs for “hidden” chests now.. so I guess difficult exploration is pretty much over, yeah
Cocoatrice2026-01-07 01:12
Some people hate it even today. I argued with people *this year* about Dragonspine not being bad.
VoidMeetsChaos2026-01-07 09:26
They never tried Dehya there. I was annoyed by cooking goulash all the time, but ckeared it with Dehya.
NicoKudo2026-01-07 01:27
There's also the fact that most people were low level so for the casual player it meant less help, either by the lack of guides or the lack of high level players that could help them, and also that there barely were any characters and weapons back then compared to today, recently I played dragon spine on my wife's account to help her get enough gems for varesa, and just having characters like kachina and ororon makes it way easier
GarfieldianAcolyte2026-01-07 04:02
It was also the first map to explore underground areas but no accompanying map and the treasure compass doesn't work.
Personally I enjoyed the area for the harsh environment and new enemies
VariousComment69462026-01-07 08:49
Unpopular opinion here: when the dragonspine first came out in the game, I actually liked it right away. It felt like a breath of fresh air. But after finishing it way too fast, I realized I’d need to take breaks between updates. That did affect the amount of artifacts and resources I got, but at least I didn’t burn out from boring crafting and endless looting. Now it’s 2026 and I still have a ton of resources and artifacts—probably would’ve had way more if I’d been grinding the game nonstop. Honestly, the most boring parts for me were the Desert and Fontaine (because of the prison and the endless searching, plus the limited mechanics underwater).
NeoLedah2026-01-07 00:51
Dragonspine is Yanfei's personal trial area, as the volcano area from the collective of plenty is to Varesa, Scions of the Canopy is to Kinich, Children of Echoes is to Kachina and Xilonen etc
Rockotakobi2026-01-07 01:02
What?
NeoLedah2026-01-07 01:06
Did I stutter?
Shoitaan2026-01-07 01:03
Yeah it was already out by the time I started playing and I had a high con Yanfei that slowly became a c6. Creating fire at will felt so necessary. The area had a strange and low-stakes thrilling survival element. But when I just wanted to relax and explore, Yanfei helped a lot. Plus she made sure I never feared coming across an ice abyss mage XD
Background_Good_53972026-01-07 00:52
I have wonderful memories of exploring it and struggling with friends when it came out back then
xStardust_Angelx2026-01-07 00:53
music there is 10/10 and definitely one of my favorite areas in the game to explore besides the chasm and Sumeru desert.
Redlinemylife2026-01-07 00:53
I recently re explored dragonspine on a friend’s account and wow, it was incredible! It’s so different than the rest of the game. It doesn’t guide you with obvious pathways, you have to actually think about what you’re doing. It also has a lot of traps like trying to get a chest in some far away water will spawn cryo bats to freeze you. Revisiting it reminded me of Elden Ring in a way
MemeManUnableToCan2026-01-07 00:56
It's still my favorite exploration-wise. And we'll never get anything like it again because the game is moving towards quick, effortless exploration. Natlan and nod krai don't even feel like you're exploring cause everything is so straightforward.
six_seasons2026-01-07 18:49
Nod krai is def the worst culprit but exploration has been streamlined pretty bad ever since sumeru desert
misamoandtzuyu052026-01-07 00:56
No
AndieDaQu33n2026-01-07 00:56
Dragonspine has definitely grown on me. I hated it when I started playing but I just recently began to explore it again and I’m actually having a great time. Currently working on leveling up the fostbearing tree for the wings.
SuccessfulSample69552026-01-07 00:57
It was my FAVORITE and most memorable area to explore. It’s peaceful and tranquil and the music is AWESOMESAUCE
xedmin902026-01-07 00:57
I’ll like it more when I can use the treasure compass there.
Squildo2026-01-07 01:18
I can’t fathom why we still don’t have a fix for that
Bromolochus2026-01-07 01:45
It's a conspiracy by Clothar so people keep using the interactive map
Reality_10012026-01-07 09:46
I would use the interactive map but unfortunately the me 2 years ago went to get all the crimson agates and didnt mark down any chests whatsoever… so now im on 92% for dragonspine and I really dont want to re-explore the entire thing just for the last 8% D:
Kirameka2026-01-07 03:16
Lore-related reasoning, there's no ley lines on Dragonspine
DigiAirship2026-01-07 04:21
Once Dornman port area is released and Mondstadt compass gets updated, we'll finally be able to use it in Dragonspine. /hopium
kuroka_kitten2026-01-07 00:58
i really liked running around it with Varesa in the event!
MrZelant2026-01-07 00:58
It's my favorite region, tbh.
Imasterbatetofurries2026-01-07 00:59
I feel people hated it on release cuz a lot of use were still low AR with low level characters and not a lot of access to proper heals
Liteseid2026-01-07 01:52
People that happened to pull Jean and Yanfei had a different time than people that had Barbara and Amber lmao
Grand_Protector_Dark2026-01-07 02:27
Yanfei is a 1.5 character. Quite a bit further along than early release time
TKoBuquicious2026-01-07 04:57
Just Jean, with the hella buffed Festering Desires, she almost solo'd the whole place in a few hours the same day it came out
hyschara3042026-01-07 02:59
This. We lived through the pains. I was forced to have amber in my team just to not freeze to death.
ren-genshin932026-01-07 03:54
LOL THIS
PM_Cute_Ezreal_pics2026-01-07 08:19
There were 2 kinds of people exploring Dragonspine. People who had Klee/Bennett/Diluc in their party, and people who didn't. VASTLY different experiences tbh
azaleapom2026-01-07 09:14
I had Amber and healing food, had a blast
Yergason2026-01-07 09:09
People should also consider that Genshin is the first main video game for a lot of people so stuff like that was already a massive difficulty spike.
Not everyone pkayed masochistic genre games like soulsborne games where dying every 5 mins is common.
Though my OG Diluc-Benny-XQ-Zhongli made overworld and Archon quests a breeze til like Fontaine lol
DSpine was your average commission for Benny
lnfine2026-01-07 18:55
Nah, if you are a new player, you now arrive to dragonspine in a similar state as old players back in 1.2. Even worse because now you can get to dragonspine in a day, and back then people only got to it 2 patches after release.
Low AR also actually works into the player's favour, since low AR scaling is ludicrously easy. The real slump starts at around AR 40-45 when player gear starts lagging behind the world level.
Dragonspine is purely a skill/knowledge issue.
If you know what you are doing, it's a place for the starter gang.
We just didn't know what we were doing back then.
I guarantee you if you start a new playthrough today, you will roll over dragonspine with a no-pull account.
succulentcitrus2026-01-07 01:00
The area is beautiful and the puzzles are fun! The cold mechanic for the whole section was a mistake though. I think that might have been better if they kept it for a smaller section of it or maybe a boss fight.
Ordinarypanic2026-01-07 01:01
Cleared as a newbie back in 1.6 brute forcing with Xiangling/Yanfei. My only gripes ever were targeting on the torches and there being no useable treasure compass.
Onikonokage2026-01-07 01:01
I cheated and used Dehya on the whole mountain so I had fun there.
Andrea_Greenwood2026-01-07 01:27
Similar here. I’ve just got Xilonen and am now having fun cheesing the mountain.
theksjlife2026-01-07 01:03
haha one of the reasons I remember it being annoying back then was that the treasure compass doesn't work in that region and the crimson agate were a pain to find without much stamina to climb without freezing lol
UltimaSorgente2026-01-07 01:04
everything in this game is overhated, this community is only good at complaining
Princess_Moe2026-01-07 04:14
if it has no primogem incentive or there's some sort of difficulty or extra task between them and their primogem, they will consider it their mortal enemy.
Ghurty12026-01-07 01:06
i wish exploration was still hard. They dumbed it down way too hard with fontaine and natlan, it was cool actually being capable of dying while exploring if you werent careful or didnt plan
Cursed_line2026-01-07 01:08
Take your hot take and warm yourself up that mountain then
Kuntato2026-01-07 01:08
Like do people never figure out to just use the goulash food?
GarthonSix2026-01-07 01:09
I'd have more fun exploring it if my treasure compass actually worked there.
BananaBrodie2026-01-07 01:11
Back when the overworld posed an actual threat. People complained about sheer cold so we never got region-wide hazards again. They complained about puzzles being too difficult so now they're all braindead easy. They complained about Sumeru being too big and having too many layers and now maps are getting smaller and their releases more infrequent.
deyra_khae2026-01-07 13:39
I would have loved to have a heat bar near Natlan's volcano
Sea_Newspaper39602026-01-07 01:11
I 100% explored Dragonspine it was fun
EducationalWriter7892026-01-07 01:12
Best exploration experience in the game for me after all these years playing the game. Helping other players reach the summit from early days is also fun.
Virtual-Score46532026-01-07 01:14
I actually loved the sheer cold aspect, having to run and hunker by a small fire to keep warm to keep safe when I needed to take a break or something. Whenever there's a mechanic that makes you have to find shelter in a nice cozy spot, it scratches a certain itch.
ZAKU_IN_A_BOX2026-01-07 01:15
I explore it with Dehya, literally can't die XD once she auto heals after dropping to low. Gotta use her every chance I get
Vertukshnjators2026-01-07 01:18
Back then, no one had any strong characters, every ruin guard, mitachurl, and abyss mage took some time to kill. So you can imagine how hard it could be in some places, but it was still vibe.
froztbyte_2026-01-07 01:18
Dragonspine is very nostalgic for me. A snowy mountain while it’s actually cold IRL? Not to mention it was during lockdown as well.
Good times.
Vollkommen2026-01-07 01:19
My favorite zone! I loved exploring it and wish I could again. The environmental storytelling and threat of the cold was amazing.
jOnNy_rAzEr-cLoNe-2026-01-07 01:19
Personally I would consider this a pretty *cold* take
based_mafty2026-01-07 01:20
Nah. Dragonspine is overrated. The problem is that it's vastly inferior to BoTW cold mechanic. There's only 1 food that can counter the cold and the only way to bring down cold level is just to idle beside warm spot. Meanwhile in BoTW you can equip torch, equip armor that resist cold better, make your own fireplace and cook any food that contain chili.
Gintoki_KotAro2026-01-07 03:44
Yeah but Dragonspine has an actual great level design with lore and good puzzles which BOTW doesn't have with any of it snow areas. Sometimes great mechanics aren't enough to fill up an empty place.
Iffem2026-01-07 09:26
hell, Genshin even tells you that Cryo characters resist the cold of Dragonspine because of their Cryo abilities (source: Eula)... and then it's not reflected in gameplay
uptodown122026-01-07 01:20
It was hated?
One-Spare-7982026-01-07 01:22
Only weaklings hate Dragonspine.
Imagine the mere cold mechanic scares them so much lol
ThatOstrichGuy2026-01-07 01:22
Wouldn't this be a cold take?
VetriVade2026-01-07 01:25
One of my favorite areas!
I started playing right before sumeru and thought the freeze mechanic was neat, especially since you can craft warming vials. Then I got baizhu and never thought about freezing again
Crimson_Raven2026-01-07 01:25
It never was that scary. Cold builds up so slowly, and heat is easy to find.
If you put a healer with a heal on skill, you could ignore it all together
Original_Ad99332026-01-07 01:27
Nowadays its a breeze to explore with so many different chars and healers/supports. Back in the days there where tons of people reliant on Amber as their only Fire char, same on healers where Barbara and QiQi was kinda useless outside their small heals since ice and water element.
People where also far away from having geared chars and so on. So at this point Dragonspine was actually terrifiying for a huge amount of people.
Today its a funny Gimmick to run through and a nice place to enjoy the Scenerie.
BuilderAura2026-01-07 14:35
yeah this exactly.
Once I got Klee it went a lot better, but I still only had Barbara as good heals so I froze a lot.
Ravemst2026-01-07 01:30
Dude this ain't 6 years ago where it was tough to explore Dragonspine. Nowadays people just go there to chill or to be alone. At least that's what I do.
Evodius__2026-01-07 01:31
Cold take: Dragonspine is not hated.
MrCovell2026-01-07 01:31
I’d kill for exploration in general nowadays idc if it’s dragonspine or weenie hut junior Fontaine just give me more exploration!
DarkPhoenixMishima2026-01-07 01:31
It was a little annoying only because your pyro options back then were a bit limited.
rloco2026-01-07 01:32
Since it came out, it has always been one of my favorites. The story, setting, OST, and gameplay are almost perfect.
AppointmentPretend682026-01-07 01:32
It's my favorite place in the whole game. I had no idea it was hated.
roxasindisguise2026-01-07 01:38
Agreed, I started playing in the patch it released with, and despite my lack of experience with this game, it instantly became my favorite area despite the difficulties. The scenery is stunning, the music is beautiful, the many different layers of exploration really added to the fun, and this place has interesting lore. Sometimes I still have flashbacks to the days where I felt like the only Dragonspine defender on this planet lol.
Liteseid2026-01-07 01:45
Dragonspine is the greatest the game will ever be
Classic-Pea68152026-01-07 01:46
I think one of the issues is since it is prt of Monstadt that it is assumed that you can get it done at an early level. You really can’t, it’s not designed for early on play levels. That and for perfectionists there are a lot of chests that are a little hard to find. I think I have like 9 chests to find to 100% the area and it’s harder to do that with no compass or clear way to divide and conquer areas. I personally enjoyed the area though
Zwirbs2026-01-07 01:47
Hotter take: Dragonspine is the best this game has to offer in terms of exploration
restlessraccoon132026-01-07 04:10
I feel like it’s the perfect balance of being difficult while still being rewarding. You get multiple huge chests but only if you work for them by completing long quests that take you around the whole mountain or solve puzzles
Kingpimpy2026-01-07 07:44
honestly
yeah i can see that
i kinda prefer the underground chasm more but both are goated
lnfine2026-01-07 19:01
I think it's the best this game has to offer period.
It has best exploration, best fitting music, best quest/story direction.
Chasm is a really close second though.
FunBuilding27072026-01-07 01:48
Cold take actually, just like Dragonspine.
MrsReverie2026-01-07 01:49
We all went there with Kaeya in hope we won't die from the cold. And we all failed.
KeyMore94222026-01-07 01:50
it sucks when your new, i ragequit at first, and just now returned to it after forgetting about it lol
KingSilver472026-01-07 01:53
Nah, you just have Stockholm syndrome.
But in all seriousness, it is quite fun.
Spectre_Hayate2026-01-07 01:53
i love dragonspine! don't really like that the treasure compass doesn't work there but that's a minor nitpick, the interactive map works fine \^^
luars6132026-01-07 01:54
Amen
QWERTYAF12412026-01-07 02:00
No. No it's not. Compass doesn't work and it's cold. Also random snowstorms at times.
Pastalindeando2026-01-07 02:00
I have two agates left. Two red crystals. Two. The chests are not a problem, but the two last crystals haunt me.
IZUKUMIDORIYAXX2026-01-07 02:01
Yeah, its fun, but ive got a question, how to unlock the peak and the domain in the centre?
JewelKnightJess2026-01-07 02:02
Genuinely peak. One of the best areas to explore alongside the chasm underground.
TheCoffeeCrowl2026-01-07 02:03
Based take, dragonspine my beloved. Mondstat or shnesnaya expansion when guys? I've been waiting since launch/gen 😔😔😔
_NightShade13_2026-01-07 02:05
Dragonspine was my first 100% out of pure spite coz I actually loved that place
Aetherium2026-01-07 02:05
I absolutely loved it when it came out. There's something about having not fully leveled up characters and trying to survive the cold while exploring and unraveling the story of Dragonspine that was pretty magical.
FicklePangolin17172026-01-07 14:23
I had that with Inazuma. I was lucky I was in break then, so that I could have fun in Sumeru and alternate back to Inazuma for the harder puzzles
Puzzleheaded-Tart5582026-01-07 02:06
everything is overhated on genshin
TheCoffeeCrowl2026-01-07 02:09
Dragonspine is actually the only place I've ever bothered to get the wings from. I miss when the game was hard in this way. Now it's just hard because I don't have good enough characters or five star teams because Im free to play
_TrenZlyte_2026-01-07 02:11
Not a hate take, just wrong, it might be fine now but at the time of release there were 0 exploration characters and most of the player base had low stamina, a ton of people either didn't know the warmth food existed or just didn't do the quest, it just came out too early.
this_is_too_muchh2026-01-07 02:15
Dragonspine remains my FAVORITE exploration in Genshin. I think battling the elements made it more immersive for me. Really fun as a new player.
revolverdude162026-01-07 02:19
especially the dragonspine music
Linoren2026-01-07 02:23
I miss-read that title as over-heated, and was half expecting to see it melt in your screenshot x)
Salter_KingofBorgors2026-01-07 02:26
Oh totally. I had a blast exploring
Creme_de_laCreme2026-01-07 02:28
It definitely deserved the hate. Until I got Diluc, that is. Then it was more pleasant to explore. Having Xiangling and Amber as the Pyro characters for exploring Dragonspine as a beginner was quite the frustrating experience.. I do wonder how different it would feel if I waited till I got Arlecchino for exploring Dragonspine.
pitb0ss3432026-01-07 02:40
The problem was when it released. A lot of players only had Amber as a pyro character and (I’m going to get shot for saying this) she’s not fun to play. If it released today where there are so many other pyro options (and most people have a decent pyro 4 star now) it would be better received even if the cold mechanic was a bit harsher
Weltersquad2026-01-07 02:40
I really like it. Just wish we could track the chests

Dragonspine, along with Enkanomiya, Chasm, and Ochkanatlan feels like an adventurer's challenge type of stuff.
All these are challenging (especially if you're a new player) with Ochkanatlan being the most free form of them all. But that's part of the funs of adventuring into the unknown (for you, the player at least). It's not meant to be all easy grab chest and move to next one.
The music in Dragonspine, Enkanomiya, and Chasm are also excellent. XD My favourites\~ Enkanomiya and Chasm out of combat and in combat music also transitions and syncs excellently, providing an even better exploration experience. Some of my favourites:

I like 100%ing regions, I recently went back and did 100% of Liyue, so now only Dragonspine, Sumeru and the Chasm underground are left. I wish they allowed us to use the compass in dragonspine
ZachandMiku2026-01-07 02:50
My friend called you stupid cause there is barely anything there to do XD not me :0 I don’t do genshin
TakeyoThissssssssss2026-01-07 02:51
Now sure, but back then ? It is a pain in the ass to explore
Kirtisdrawing2026-01-07 02:52
Besides the challenge with the abyss mages i think the over all exploration is not bad, because back when i started exploring dragon spine i already have dehya and her passive heal can outheal the freeze.
Rezboy2092026-01-07 03:04
Probably my favorite place in the whole game. It has my favorite music and it's just beautiful
Leprodus032026-01-07 03:04
The dragonspine wings were the first windglider I unlocked

"hot take" is your "hot take" quote about this assessment
Xc4lib3r2026-01-07 03:13
You need to play it as AR15-25 and with 1.x teams, it was ROUGH. People hated it because there were not many heal characters back then like it is today, so the hate was reasonable due to the lack of survival resources we had.
illoterra2026-01-07 03:13
The only reason I wasn't keen on exploring Dragonspine was because it's... a mountain. Before Natlan, climbing stuff is just a drag. The sheer cold isn't too much of a bother for me.
I completed Dragonspine exploration only after I pulled Chasca lol.
jhinigami2026-01-07 03:29
I will never forgive people who complain about this they dumbed down exploration/puzzles on Sumeru onwards
Inazuma was so hostile I loved it same as this region
Secret___kill2026-01-07 03:37
I really love this place because of the challenges it provided . I 100% explored this region when I was AR 28 and it took me about 8-9 hours to do so
Ikses2026-01-07 03:38
it was only hated on release, coz everyone was ar30 with no real characters build (even zhongli shield was ignored for sheer cold and only healer everyone had (barbara) was a death sentence)
now people remember it with nostalgia and ask for more
Everyoneheresamoron2026-01-07 03:40
I enjoyed it. It does take some getting used to with the cold mechanic, but It was not a huge barrier.
Back when I started though it was very daunting.
Stairfell2026-01-07 03:51
Imagine you're playing in 1.2 and you're AR 35. Your best healer is Barbara so you put her on the team. Sheer cold starts chipping away at your HP so you pull out Amber and light a torch. Then, when you're warming up, you decide to also heal. Barbara's water ring puts out the torch. A hillichurl shoots an arrow and now you're frozen.
You switch to using Bennett as a healer. It works ok but now you get one shot by cryo attacks.
You pulled Zhongli and decide to use his shields to ignore enemy attacks. Oops his buff happened in 1.3, dude gets staggered while casting shield.
You try playing xiangling and try to light a torch. Guoba doesn't face the right direction.
These aren't big issues, and in hindsight, they're funny, but these kind of things kill the fun in the moment.
jinxedandcursed2026-01-07 03:53
It's definitely hell for newer players, but this area was all in all alright.
Radiant_Ad_28552026-01-07 03:54
finding last 2% on dragonspine kinda wasn’t fun, actually it was tedious
wiretickler2026-01-07 03:58
Dragonspine being overhated is a thing?! O.o
Like this zone was the best gaming experience I ever had in genshin, I literally stayed up for like 14hrs exploring the entirety of dragonspine.
Honestly cannot express how much I loved this area, it was a blast!
Ok_Silver67022026-01-07 04:00
Overheated? OGs like me only hate freezing, but loved exploring Dragonspine. And my God the OST is beautiful
restlessraccoon132026-01-07 04:04
my fave feeling in the game was getting my butt kicked in the early game and then going back once my characters were well built and feeling like everything was easy
Few_Outcome_58902026-01-07 04:05
I started playing Genshin Impact just as Inazuma was about to go live. To get there as fast as possible, I stayed up nonstop and farmed for three days, finally completing all the previous quests. Dragonspine alone took me a day and a half to grind 😂. I still remember it vividly. But once I hit level 60, I often go into newbie worlds to help them get through Dragonspine.
foxfire9812026-01-07 04:14
I disagree. The reason for the hate is somewhat justified. You needed to watch for heat. The only food that helped required killing specific boars. And the compass doesn't work there so you needed to side monitor maps to find everything. It's hated for a reason.
Still really cool and I love going to the spike still. But I hated fighting and doing bosses in there. Especially early game.
Ath_Trite2026-01-07 04:21
I just wish it had a compass that was compatible with it 🫠 I'm stuck at like, 98%, but I explored it before I was using the interactive map, so I have no idea what I have or haven't done
Anwedraw2026-01-07 08:59
I LOVE it, I love the music, the cold, the need to find a fire to warm up, you only have to have a fire element character. This is my favourite place in the game (second is Remuria)

I think it’s the coolest area in the entire game, genuinely the best to explore, but the cold mechanic is truly trash.
Another thing that I donno what it’s like for players now, but when I started genshin it was 2 patches before raiden released, and back then, when you get the quest to go to dragonspine, at least at that time, you were nowhere near strong enough to handle the area u less you were playing the game before dragonspine released and had leveled characters, so for newer players dragonspine was complete hell, not only from the cold mechanic, but just that you get sent there when you aren’t ready to handle it.

The sheer mystery and difficulty still makes it one of the most memorable aspects of my early exploration.
i really dislike handholding in exploration
it's one of the game's "growing pains"
It wasn't just hard. You needed to be tactile with how you went about your business. Also I just like the world quest. I can't explain why, I love when there's no hand holding because I get this feeling of being an adventurer on my own devices.
I just eat food lol (lv50 characters).
Amber is honestly the f2p GOAT for Dragonspine. She taunts enemies, can activate flames without needing to use a skill or burst, lowers glide stamina consumption, lets you solve all the archer-specific puzzles....she really is best girl.
Also her burst has 0 icd
It just melts the shields and everything around
No, she has standard~ish ICD (3 hit, but 1s instead of 2,5), she just has a lot of hits. so it ends up a lot of application (6 or 7 or something).
I think the misunderstanding about no ICD is from some fancy SO enemies that care about raw hitcount, not just application (like the Lava Golem)
It's still nice tho !! Thank you !
Also fuck Gouba for targeting any direction besides the torch beside him.
there are some people who enjoy it and others who just wanna go in get the primos and get otu.
Personally I enjoyed the area for the harsh environment and new enemies
Not everyone pkayed masochistic genre games like soulsborne games where dying every 5 mins is common.
Though my OG Diluc-Benny-XQ-Zhongli made overworld and Archon quests a breeze til like Fontaine lol
DSpine was your average commission for Benny
Low AR also actually works into the player's favour, since low AR scaling is ludicrously easy. The real slump starts at around AR 40-45 when player gear starts lagging behind the world level.
Dragonspine is purely a skill/knowledge issue.
If you know what you are doing, it's a place for the starter gang.
We just didn't know what we were doing back then.
I guarantee you if you start a new playthrough today, you will roll over dragonspine with a no-pull account.
Good times.
Imagine the mere cold mechanic scares them so much lol
I started playing right before sumeru and thought the freeze mechanic was neat, especially since you can craft warming vials. Then I got baizhu and never thought about freezing again
If you put a healer with a heal on skill, you could ignore it all together
People where also far away from having geared chars and so on. So at this point Dragonspine was actually terrifiying for a huge amount of people.
Today its a funny Gimmick to run through and a nice place to enjoy the Scenerie.
Once I got Klee it went a lot better, but I still only had Barbara as good heals so I froze a lot.
yeah i can see that
i kinda prefer the underground chasm more but both are goated
It has best exploration, best fitting music, best quest/story direction.
Chasm is a really close second though.
But in all seriousness, it is quite fun.
