Kazuha is the only example of this. Sumeru, Fontaine, and Natlan had no lead up character. 2.8 and 3.8 didn't even have a new 5 star. 4.8 we got Emilie, who I did roll for but she didn't really have meta team when she arrived and Kinich was the only Natlan character to want her in their team.

Ineffa was released as one of the most busted characters in the game. For some reason, a lot of people just didn't see it and ended up skipping her.
Now, she's getting an early rerun, and people have a chance to make up for their mistake.

Ineffa was crazy on release, but a lot of people here only understand what content creators and theorycrafters tell them. The way people act like Ineffa is good "***now"*** proves it. [A lot of CCs down-played her](https://youtu.be/7Jhf8emYW-c?t=748) or said we had to "wait and see" if she was good or not which was goofy.
Even if Nod Krai didn't exist Ineffa would still be a top-tier character.

Zajef explained it best, on release she was already a decent unit; shielder, EM buffer and solid sub-DPS but with a restriction of needing Hydro. But she had no good set, and at the time sub-DPS was seen as less valuable in a Natlan Hypercarry meta. And no 'meta' teams wanted Hydro aura, it was Melt or Mono Freeze, Vape and HB was second-tier.
Then they release Nod Krai, and suddenly there's a ton of ways to buff Lunar damage, and other meta DPS units that share the same requirement for Hydro. Ineffa of course being BiS for Flins, but even paired with Lauma or Nefer she was good just to have for what she did. And now next patch we get Columbina who is even more buffs to Ineffa, but we finally have a BiS artifact set for her as well. Now we're getting the full potential of Ineffa, and realizing how good she is. Basically, her kit was OP on release, but we didn't have the tools to actually use it properly, so it felt 'ok' at best.
Plus, her prelude story was ok, but I'd say her appearances and interactions in Nod Krai really made her a more interesting character.

wanted to try my luck on her (I'm a bargain hunter) after getting Bina, but since Illuga is in the second half, I have to skip her again. I'm going for Zibai and want as many Illugas as I can get.
If I try my luck on Ineffa and build pity, then go into phase 2 with 40 pity instead of 0, that's less chances at getting Illuga. Would have been perfect if second half was Zibai and Ineffa.

For non-meta players- grew on people after we reached nodkrai and got to experience more of her personality.
For meta players: better value than expected, even tho there was an expectation of improvement in nodkrai.
Personally? Meta wise, I pulled her on first banner to wheelchair Neuvilette for upcoming content, 2 steps ahead. Non-meta wise she grew on me too.

If you read posts during Luna I, many already planning to pull her after her involvement in the story(plus there's Angelina, her EN va lmao)

A lot of players who are in the game for the story found her found-family relationship with Aino to be super sweet and endearing. It made them care about her as a character much more.
From a gameplay stand point, while she was already strong she synergizes super well with a lot of Nod-Krai characters, making her value as a support even higher.
