I cant read Chinese and have no idea that's a paycheck because it doesn't look like any ive ever seen , it just looks like numbers that can be printed in a book or page
Adblock_Only2026-01-07 05:04
It's commonsense unless you don't have a job lmao, what kind of job only pays you at the end of the year?
Yumeverse2026-01-07 05:40
I noticed for a lot of americans when you ask for their salary they respond with salary for the whole year but where I’m from we always answer the amount per month.
tagle4202026-01-07 05:05
just want to point out thats Japanese and the currency is yen
mouchemouchee2026-01-07 05:29
they converted the currency to usd
Curius0ne2026-01-07 05:06
It's Japanese. But regardless of it being Japanese or Chinese ppl are normally paid either monthly or bi-monthly
Aromatic_Inspector892026-01-07 05:58
it's not about paychecks, the term "salary" depends on the culture you ask it on. In US it's usually meant as "annual" while in asia it may be "monthly"
chatnoire892026-01-07 06:30
As far as I know it's always monthly in various SEA and east Asian countries.
PandaSPUR2026-01-07 06:25
Do you not get W-2s or whatever your country's equivalent is?
Screenshot looks like the Japanese equivalent of a W-2 (tax withholding form): [https://practicaljapan.com/how-to-read-japanese-gensenchoshuhyou/](https://practicaljapan.com/how-to-read-japanese-gensenchoshuhyou/)
tagle4202026-01-07 06:46
Yup, it does look like JP version of W-2 (源泉徴収票)
the_vikm2026-01-07 09:09
>Do you not get W-2s or whatever your country's equivalent is?
And W2 is what? Why don't you mention what *your* country is?
No-Narwhal47922026-01-07 05:02
If is yearly it's not much but if that what it earns every month then that's crazy, like here in El Salvador if someone earn like 700$ per month that's crazy lol.
MofoPro2026-01-07 05:05
If they earn that much a month than good for them and they can spend it anyway they want
VihaanLoskaa2026-01-07 06:07
If they earn that much a year, they can spend it anyway they want, it's their money.
That's almost certainly the annual salary, but ten million yen in Japan is a very good comfortable salary.
what-the-helll2026-01-07 06:46
Not related but El Salvador is the home of some of the best food imo, I love pupusas
tagle4202026-01-07 05:04
its probably monthly
CharlesEverettDekker2026-01-07 05:05
You dumbass. That's literally better than 1% of the entire world population earns in a year.
Fantastic_Stay80592026-01-07 05:16
It's quite a lot in my country
AgeofPhoenix2026-01-07 05:24
If that Japan then 64k is crazy amounts of money .
chatnoire892026-01-07 06:30
It does say Yen (JPY).
Shopworn_Soul2026-01-07 05:26
That's annual and 64k US per year is very comfortable in Japan (generally speaking). About 20k US over the high end of the average.
ohoni2026-01-07 07:40
I really should move to Japan. It's about time.
lazytanaka2026-01-07 07:52
I’ve been thinking about it too but they’re harsh at work and won’t give a single f about your mental well being
ohoni2026-01-07 07:55
The trick is to not work there. Just live there.
chairmanxyz2026-01-07 08:29
You have to work for a company that permits that though. It’s a tax hell that many HR departments don’t want to deal with.
Yu-aru2026-01-07 05:52
I think most of Asia pay per month
Agreeable_Bullfrog612026-01-07 06:03
Really depends on the country tbf. In the US it indeed isn’t a lot. In the poorer LATAM countries that’s easily middle class
poeyoh122026-01-07 06:07
Depends on where you live
PastaFreak262026-01-07 06:19
That’s a highly overgeneralized statement to make. Depending on where you live, the socioeconomic landscape, 64k/yearly is approximately 5.3k/monthly, which is a pretty comfortable range for a single person to live on. Also consider if the person in question has side or passive income undisclosed here, as this is only their wage.
If they had a family, wife or kids, and had other monthly commitments, that’s a different story. 64k even annually isn’t really little. Having higher income p.a. doesn’t necessarily make one rich, it just means they have more spending power, but it begs where the money goes, personal entertainment or fixed commitments.
Considering the focus here is the person being able to C6R5 their units consistently and not how much they can afford, I’d say 64k isn’t “isn’t really that much if it’s yearly.”
PandaSPUR2026-01-07 06:28
A lot of words for "it depends" lol
Whoever added the USD equivalent to that screenshot is implying 64k salary is a lot. Meanwhile US median salary is 84k\*, so 64k really isnt that much in the US.
\*EDIT: fixed median salary to 84k per US Census median household income for 2024.
Yumeverse2026-01-07 06:34
They added the 64k USD maybe for easier conversion since some countries actually know (and are updated with) the conversion rates of their own country’s currency vs USD compared to vs JPY, i dont think they were implying anything how it’s a lot (or not) for American standards of cost of living.
PandaSPUR2026-01-07 06:39
I guess that would make sense too but now im wondering if primogems cost the same in all regions. Cause minimum $1500 USD or so to get C6 for one character, multiply by 8-10 characters per year, is still a lot of money in a year compared to a $64k USD salary.
Yumeverse2026-01-07 06:46
It’s the same iirc, the difference would be credit payments for stuff like crossborder fees and added tax.
OP also linked the original tweet, and the person asking doesnt seem to say about getting ALL characters at C6R5 in the original text, as the context was only refering to being able to C6R5 a character
PandaSPUR2026-01-07 06:48
Ok whaling for the occasional or single C6R5 sounds more realistic with that salary lol.
Itchy-Log94192026-01-07 06:34
Yeah but it’s not actually 5.3k a month. I gross 61k a year, my take home every month is only $3400 and that’s with the absolute minimum retirement contributions, it would be even less if I was contributing how much people are “supposed” to be at my age. The economy doesn’t care about “supposed to” anymore lol
kevo314152026-01-07 07:43
I gross double that ($120k/yr) and I only get by OK in the US. Between a mortgage, rising expenses, supporting myself and my partner, some travel and entertainment, it disappears fast.
Offduty_shill2026-01-07 06:47
in the us it's not much, that's like living with room mates salary
but in Japan it may be pretty good
bbyangel_1112026-01-07 06:36
Not all countries have unreasonable cost of living
ContentMeringue95562026-01-07 06:44
In Brazil that'd easily be like 5x my and my dad's salary combined but it's just a dream for now :')
Many-Refuse-60602026-01-07 06:54
For the Us, but for Japan it's a lot
jiiminn2026-01-07 06:55
well if youre living in china or japan it kinda is
IRLMerlin2026-01-07 07:04
64k in china is different than 64k in the usa
edit:(japan?)
Timey162026-01-07 07:17
...it's quite a lot if you aren't American.
It's just that US salaries are relatively overinflated to other nations.
But in Germany, the 3rd most powerful economy, 64k per year would put you WELL into the top of the middle class. Most people are lucky to earn 40k a year.
iAmMutun2026-01-07 08:02
Glad to know that EU is similar to Asia (or not too far off). What the heck is going on in NA that make 64k a year considered low.
Happypsycoman2026-01-07 08:21
Probably cuz we have a large amount of greedy mfers (millionaires and billionaires) who mind control us over here, ngl
LeaderOk80122026-01-07 13:43
They have to pay everything, get with many debts especially for schools, prices are mostly uncontrolled, costy insurances etc. In countries with more extended social welfare etc that's many monthly expenses you have less, on the other hand it's less taxes too so higher salary. So you have 2 different income with more or less the same purchasing power in the end
ItsLoudB2026-01-07 15:40
People making 35k (30k euro) here in Italy live very comfortably for middle class standards. It’s crazy to me to hear the paychecks people are getting in other parts of the world while barely affording living expenses and just one Health crisis away from bankruptcy
HermitAndHound2026-01-07 16:49
Health insurance. I do pay a whopping 25% of my income, but that's *it*. Meds, doc visits, hospital, even in-home carer, all covered.
The benchmark for "rich" tends to start at the so-called "six figure salary", or 100k+.
fahmikan2026-01-07 05:12
the guy in question is Japanese, and it's monthly not annual
BobTheGodx2026-01-07 05:12
There's no way someone making 64k annually is whaling on Genshin lol
PidoveEnjoyer2026-01-07 05:30
My coworker’s neighbour is a NEET living off their parents’ savings and they have about 200k USD.
That guy is a huge whale.
Keeping yourself alive in Asia is really easy because of how cheap food is, (if we’re talking bare minimum) and the guy’s daily CoL works out to be around $2 USD.
Doesn’t shower, doesn’t go outside, just orders the type of takeout that’d probably slash your lifespan in half.
Everything else goes to video games…
RubApprehensive25122026-01-07 05:34
In Japan or other asian countries, yes it is possible to whale.
jiiminn2026-01-07 06:59
? brother depending on where u live 64k is a lot
Yumeverse2026-01-07 05:44
You need to consider the cost of living where the person is from. They might not be claiming to be six-figure-rich but if it’s basically double the mean average income in their country then it’s particularly well off to whale for a character and still live comfortably
Alzusand2026-01-07 05:13
64k monthly is just insane lmao.
Mecha_Dogg2026-01-07 05:39
True but the paycheck in that pic is yearly salary
KuraPikaPika692026-01-07 05:44
What makes you think that
Mecha_Dogg2026-01-07 05:54
Google gensenchoshuhyou.
OOP's picture shows the first half of the slip with the yen amount being the gross salary earned throughout the year
Ryuunoru2026-01-07 07:41
Their brain
iAmJhinious2026-01-07 09:29
This gave me a right proper chuckle, thank you for that.
oasuke2026-01-07 06:18
People really think Genshin players making $800k/yr lmao. Got some CEO's whaling in gachas
Pop-girlies2026-01-07 05:13
WTF does bro do for a living to get that much a month 😭
Sharkeatinpizza2026-01-07 05:18
Probably something government related. I know a college roommate who's starting salary as a neurosurgeon was 442k a yr and an old co-worker used to be some kimd of upper management at Lockheed Martin for high 6 figures (wouldn't give me an exact number or position details but thru 20-questions, I narrowed it down to between 600k and 800k a yr)
RubApprehensive25122026-01-07 05:34
According to other people in the thread, this is their yearly income.
Fall0fReach-jOnYx-NA2026-01-07 05:16
I live at home with my mom, and my PhD stipend is prettty generous as well
Stardust-12026-01-07 05:17
That's the Japanese version of W2, so it's an annual salary not a monthly paycheck.
I actually doubt if there's more than 1000 Japanese people who can make 64k monthly salary from work w/o other incomes. And those 1000 people probably don't play Genshin anyway.
Stardust-12026-01-07 05:21
No idea why it got down voted. 10M yen (64k USD) annual salary is widely regarded as high income or "rich" in Japan. Fresh college graduates only make less than 4M for comparison.
99cent-tea2026-01-07 05:22
Given how cheap Japan is in a lot of aspects, $64k annually is still pretty damn high since their median annual income is a little over half of that???
Stardust-12026-01-07 05:27
Yes, it is pretty high. And unlike the US, many young Japanese choose not to date, buy a house or have kids, so they can spend way more salary on games. C6R5 should be doable with this income.
99cent-tea2026-01-07 05:28
Thanks for the W-2 context, happy cake day~
RubApprehensive25122026-01-07 05:33
Lots of engineering kids are starting with 140k a year now. Considering this, if they only spend what they need, then yes, it is quite doable.
ExcuseAccomplished972026-01-07 05:47
They may get a fully set account with their wealth like Elon.
8283742026-01-07 06:58
Of course there’s more than 1000 Japanese people who make more than 64k monthly… I feel like people forget how the top 1% is literally millions of people
NaoTomori-san2026-01-07 05:23
It is yearly, but as someone who lives and works in Japan, that is an amazing salary for Japan. Especially considering it is quite cheap to live here. I don’t even make half of that and I could whale more if I wanted 😉
CanaKitty2026-01-07 06:53
That is crazy. I make almost double that but am in a super high cost of living area in America and there is not much money left for whaling.
ZcepsGaming2026-01-07 07:14
Oof, I just did a Google search and it looks like the average Degree holder's pay in Japan is somewhere between $30k to $45k USD per year. So it's probly just has generally cheaper cost of living when staying there.
TrumpChildOnahole2026-01-07 20:08
It's like three times cheaper for housing than the US generally there. Food is about 50% cheaper
dancingaze2026-01-07 07:38
I really don't understand how the US got to this point. And I'm legit interested in knowing what makes the cost of living there so high.
I used to live in Paris with around 40k€/year, bonus and all included (decent but pretty average to slightly lower than Parisian average which is a very expensive city by European standards already). While I doubt we had the same quality of living, this was more than enough for both me and my wife to have some fun from time to time, save money and even allowed both of us some reasonable game spendings.
PidoveEnjoyer2026-01-07 07:56
I think in many places, it’s just a matter of where you live.
When I lived in Toronto (big city in Canada), my rent was about 3k for a one bedroom with no roommates, while the average person was making about 4K a month.
But in a small city in the middle of nowhere, I hear that in Winnipeg, some of those same apartments would be $500, while some professions get paid more to move out there, than they would in a big city.
Same thing in China, big city I’m paying 6k RMB for my current place per month.
But if I wanted to move to a small village on government assisted housing, I think I could probably find a place for 50-100RMB per month.
dancingaze2026-01-07 08:15
Oh, hey I'm in china too now, paying 8k RMB for a two bedroom of around 90m² in Shanghai.
While I was in Paris I used to pay around 650€ but the place was around 30m² livable area equating to something like 40-45m² total surface. It was definitely on the smaller side, but tbh we actually like that place a lot since it was quite a charming little place that had everything we needed.
I remember seeing a video on bilibili about a guy comparing what 1k rmb could get you in cities from tier 1 to tier 5. You can get a freaking high rise penthouse in tier 5 city lol.
Tbh, while the housing is similar in price, what shocked me most was the price of utilities. I used to pay 140€ during winter per month while now I'm barely scratching 350 rmb while the heater is turned on 24/7 now.
PidoveEnjoyer2026-01-07 08:24
Yooooooo fellow Chinese temp work immigrant(?)
As a fresh grad, some supposed big shot employer was trying to impress me with his luxury penthouse from his multi billion dollar company.
When I brought up getting a job at his company, my dad took one look at the guy’s residence and location and told me the guy was 100% either a scammer or a human trafficker, because his apartment’s rent would cost less than my uni dorm.
It was so crazy to me at the time 😭
dancingaze2026-01-07 08:37
Sorry brother, I'm an expat lol.
Tbh yeah need to be a bit careful about the apartments here. There are super luxurious high rises that look straight out of ''crazy rich asian'' that you can rent for basically peanuts even in tier 3 cities.
In fact, when you look at the super expensive apartment in Shanghai (easily 30k/month), you actually feel like they are not even that good because the buildings are usually older, especially when you go to the downtown high rises.
I have a colleague that bought a house in a tier 3-4 city, that shit's a straight up villa, like 3 floors, 300m². She says with the same amount of money she wouldn't even be able to get an 100m² apartment near our company. And that's with the deflating housing market.
majkoni2026-01-07 13:50
Expat just means immigrant
iodoio2026-01-07 16:28
you're an immigrant bruh
99cent-tea2026-01-07 08:23
Yes it’s a matter of location, location, location
Toronto being a mega city makes sense, same for the US where living in NY where it’s $5k a month for a single person the size of a shoebox
In comparison to say, North Dakota or Oklahoma where you can rent an entire house for half that price solely because they are in the middle of butt fuck nowhere
CanaKitty2026-01-07 08:28
It’s not everywhere in the U.S. In some less popular states and rural areas the cost of living is pretty cheap. But salaries are often also lower there.
In cities like New York or San Francisco salaries can be quite high, but things like apartment rent are crazy expensive and can be double what you’d pay somewhere else.
dancingaze2026-01-07 08:54
Oh I don't doubt that since it's pretty much the same everywhere else in the world too. What I'm baffled about is how it seems like America's cost of living seems disproportionately high compared to the rest of the world even if we do rural vs rural and big city vs big city.
Kyilisianna2026-01-07 20:27
It's not just we make more so we spend more. There is a lot of corruption and greed that plays a massive part in it economically. Our economic system is capitalism which basically runs unchecked without any real rules, and the rules that Are there aren't really getting enforced. Inflation is driving to all time highs, we get feed, billed, and taxed for just about everything we do. Shipping is outrageous, and several things can't be found in physical stores. Domestic flights can be thousands. Prices are often inflated here for the same thing several countries pay half the price for. Not to mention most Americans are tens of thousands of medical and/or student loan debt that destroys our credit scores and can now garnish our wages thanks to current political decisions; with interest rates so high youll likely never pay it off with the current average wage. As well as paying at minimum a 15% tarrif on anything we buy out of country, but also processing and brokerage fees that are easily up to 60 usd total, and ofc this trickles down in our store prices now which companies have more than taken advantage of to raise prices astronomically. Our money is being chipped away at from all directions.
When you retire or become disabled, the systems we forcibly pay into our entire lives don't even pay enough for poverty level living. Most companies fire their senior employees before they have to pay their retirement funds or pensions, and they are legally allowed to.
There is just little to none of the regulations that tons of other countries have that stop Politicians and the Rich from harvesting from civilians like cash cows. And our systems ties the hands of anyone that Does want to change things where they can't make laws to stop them because "freedom/government overreach".
Most won't even try because they want campaign money from the rich friends they are keeping happy. Thus our cycle continues.
SoC1752026-01-07 08:56
That's where PPP (purchasing power parity) matters.
In the US they may be earning so much more than us europoors, however it's largely because all numbers are inflated accross the board.
So while the USA may have a 50% larger total GDP, the people are effectively only ~ 5% richer in their day to day live.
They may earn $100k where a european only earns 66k€, but then their groceries and rent and everything costs them like $7.4k a month where the european is living with 5k€ costs
the_vikm2026-01-07 09:03
US Standards are different. A/C everywhere, living space 2x - 4x bigger. On the other hand electronics, energy, clothing etc cheaper in the US. Real estate is cheaper than in other developed countries. Rent higher
kingmanic2026-01-07 10:00
Everywhere got worse since covid. What also helped is cheap chinese goods, during covid there was a disruption in their production which spiked durable goods costs. Now there is also a meaningless trade war and Americans buy things at a higher price due to the taxes/tarrifs; the net decline in world wide trade also spikes up prices as economies of scale for shipping decline as trade volume decline. The diminishment in trade also diminishes demand for the USD and China is successfully getting other countries to buy stuff directly for RMB or to trade between themselves in RMB rather than USD. This lowers the value of USD.
The is also much more naked corruption. Which mean more of GDP goes into specific peoples pockets and not spread around.
cartercr2026-01-07 11:27
Unchecked corporate greed is mostly what caused it. The government is run by an oligarchy which has a strict system in place to ensure that their power remains unchecked.
The aristocracy wishes for peasants to remain peasants, so they very intentionally force the price of living to be around the wage cost. This is also why the country refuses universal healthcare, because keeping healthcare tied to the employer forces the peasant into dead-end jobs and makes the masses much easier to control.
Capitalism, amirite?
ice_cold_fahrenheit2026-01-07 13:32
Part of the reason is that Tokyo and Japan, unlike nearly every other developed country in the world, builds enough housing supply to meet the needs of its population. [The New York Times even did an article about it.](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/11/opinion/editorials/tokyo-housing.html)
Squall132026-01-07 07:34
>quite cheap to live
I'm assuming you're in the sticks? I have jp friends in Tokyo and they say it's absolutely brutal
Bitter_Spray_68802026-01-07 08:15
No, either your friend live like a king or just bad spending habit, i live in tokyo nakano which is around 10 min train to shinjuku and my spending per month is only 180~200k, things got expensive if you want a huge house with garden like the one is america (assuming, never go there but the one i see is always huge)
Lonely-Metal-77642026-01-07 08:34
When you say your spending is around $1200\~ a month do you mean on everything including transportation, housing, food, clothing, and non essentials?
Bitter_Spray_68802026-01-07 09:11
Yes,
Housing 80k
Utility + phone bill +internet 10-20k (season depends)
Food + eating out 60k MAX (tbh rarely goes this high ussually 50k ish)
Etc 40k (again rarely go this high)
Lonely-Metal-77642026-01-07 10:35
cool thanks for the info
Curious_Ring_28132026-01-07 07:39
Wow, I thought Japan was a high cost of loving country and that people earned way more.
That is just about the median salary for a full time employee in Aus (I unfortunately know too well as I know I am not earning that yet)
hadoopken2026-01-07 08:29
30 plus years of very low inflation ( or deflation ) can do that
MusouTensei2026-01-07 19:30
if you use the conversion of ~15 years ago, it is around 100k usd.
Japan has a big problem, just look at the value of the jpy, it is nearly half of the value than 15 years.
Also, like in the rest of the world, salaries have stagnated a lot compared to inflation (we are poorer than our parents).
So yeah, that salary is quite high.
I did go to Japan last year and... all i can say is that they are freaking dinosaurs, really feels like 90s anime, a feeling of modern but old at the same time. It is very cool to look at but very inefficient.
I still do not understand why they do not license their anime&mangas worldwide and let other companies do it, that would be an incredible revenue (well, yes, I know why, they always only focused on internal market, that's why BD sales are what matters in terms of a successful anime).
the_tygram2026-01-07 12:35
I make 60k in America and I have to be F2P to not be homeless 🙃
Syruii2026-01-07 05:23
I checked the original tweet and it seems this is 年収, or yearly. Not sure if gross or net though and Japan has quite a high tax rate. The other Japanese commenters already assume this is yearly, and are still impressed. This just goes to show you how little the average Japanese makes.
The OOP does say it’s yearly, but always in a sort of “lol it’s yearly” way which you could say they are being sarcastic, but it’s pretty reasonable to believe they’re being honest it’s their yearly income.
Also the English here says “all c6r5” which implies they’re maxing out everyone c6r5 but the original translation only implies at least one c6r5, not necessarily you’re maxing everyone
Matt_The_Matics2026-01-07 05:34
If that's annual, that's very average here in the US.
I make mid-$90k range as a Haitian dude in South FL at 28 years old.
With upcoming promotion, I will touch around $115k.
If that's monthly tho... that's a different story entirely lol.
Meltykx2026-01-07 07:00
Except their cost of living is pretty low compared to US and also income tax.
Niklaus152026-01-07 05:34
I can't complain about my monthly income but I just can't force myself to spend money in one go in a gacha, yeah I buy the welking monthly but I would never spend 500$ for a character even if I can afford it
Ok_Pattern_75112026-01-07 05:37
US living expenses must be damn high if people think 64k USD a year is bad

I make more than that and have three roomates lol

subject6782026-01-07 06:16
Okay it’s definitely not poverty level.
But for a lot of jobs that require a bachelor’s degree; your starting salary after university may be higher.
I have a friend making $55k a year and it’s not enough for him to live comfortably.
Just to give you average living expenses:
Single person monthly.
$500 food
$300 car
$100-$200 utilities
$1,200-$1,500 rent/mortgage
That’s just the bare minimum.
After taxes and other deductions, you’re not left with a lot for leisure.
gbelly1232026-01-07 05:50
Yah, around me in US, 64k/year is poverty level.
FoxxyRin2026-01-07 06:11
Entirely depends on the area. Couple without kids in a rural area could live okay on 64k. Add a kid or move to the city and it’s gonna start being hard for sure. My husband makes more than that and we live in a three person household, but with stagnating pay and the economy in the last year or so, even our decent pay in a low income area has made things tight — we’ve been cutting back on everything basically. Went from easily getting character and weapon (c1r1) without second thought to borderline no-spend outside of bp and Welkin and having to really decide who I want most.
kaystared2026-01-07 06:17
I would be on the street making that
DiscussionLow12772026-01-07 06:22
yeah… we’re struggling over here guys…
jhinigami2026-01-07 06:28
Id kill to get that kind of payroll man (hyperbole)
haggerton2026-01-07 07:22
Hilichurls, right?
...right?
jhinigami2026-01-07 07:27
Yes... hilichurls..
Sc4r4byte2026-01-07 06:29
Bad?
not really.
all c6r5 good?
it's not that good.
(assuming c6r5 costs average $3k usd, that's an expensive single team, let alone many teams as meta constantly evolves)
StelioZz2026-01-07 08:30
C6r5 is most definitely not 3k on average.
C6 is 650 pulls so 1300$. I don't remember the numbers for weapon but no way it's over 1000$. Factor cash back and you should be around 2k at most.
(still insanely expensive though)
PandaSPUR2026-01-07 06:44
Median household income in the US as a whole is 84k so 64k is not great. Whether it is a comfortable/livable salary will depend on the specific city and state.
Someone living alone in NYC on 64k a year better not be wasting money on ANY primogems lol.
Coffee_With_Karla2026-01-07 07:09
You don’t even know the half of it, just daycare alone is like 1,500/month or more
Yergason2026-01-07 07:19
My best friend who migrated to the US makes around ~$130k yearly in New York as a physiotherapist. He needs roommates to save up, he's not struggling but he ain't living luxuriously. His roommates are our college buddies in the same profession making around the same as him.
I make 10% of that yearly in my 3rd world country and I'm comfortably middle class and can pay for my house and car monthly with no issues.
US is expensive af from my 3rd world POV
Lubinski642026-01-07 16:42
The US is expensive even from european perspective, you can rent a two bedroom apartnemt in Warsaw city center for 450$.
SomeBurntRice2026-01-07 19:01
$450 is a steal holy moly. A 2 bed from round here is bare minimum $1800 and if you want somewhere decent its $2400
coffeecircus2026-01-07 07:33
rent is 4k/mo in sf bay area for a 3br apartment
64k would be very rough in many vhcol cities in the us
MightySamMcClain2026-01-07 08:02
Many people pay $1k a month just for their car and insurance. $2k+ a month for rent/mortgage if you live in the city. 65k isn't poor but it doesn't get nearly as much as it used to
Ketzeph2026-01-07 08:56
Totally dependent on location. I'd be classified as upper middle-class in the US (lower in my area) and my wife and I make roughly 5-6 times that.
It's housing mostly. Around DC a single family home sits well over a million in a lot of places even for only a 2000 sq ft unit. Even with a 50 mile commute you're looking at homes in the 500-800,000+ dollar range real fast.
annaonthemoon2026-01-07 09:25
Fr, I'm in Poland and I would want for NOTHING if I made this much money. 😭🙏
TricobaltGaming2026-01-07 09:26
64k is above the median income in the US, and still below the bar for comfortable cost of living. I think an individual salary of like 80k is considered "comfortable" in most parts of the country
lawlianne2026-01-07 05:48
Imo 64k yearly doesnt seem like a lot to be spending it all on gacha, but sure. Do what makes them happy.
eclipse45982026-01-07 06:58
Japan cost of living is super low
nghigaxx2026-01-07 05:55
It's yearly, so this is a bit less than my net income, not even gross. And I will be cooked financially if I start whaling for c6r5. Living cost in japan must be crazy low if that person can c6r5 comfortably
parrotandpeacock2026-01-07 06:01
Cost of living in japan is not the same as US, so yes 64K yearly is alot.
soihu2026-01-07 06:11
Real message of this thread: wages and cost of living are so aberrant in the US that Americans struggle to comprehend that 64k USD is high annual income for the vast majority of developed countries.
CanaKitty2026-01-07 06:55
Where I am apartments are like 3,000 a month. It is ridiculous. 64k before taxes would not go far at all.
Kronman5902026-01-07 07:36
Hi canadian here, 64k USD salary would also be unlivable lol
lio-ns2026-01-07 13:25
Unlivable??? Idk what y’all are smoking but maybe only in Vancouver or Toronto. We live on one household income of 85k CAD right now and we have a car, a mortgage, and savings. Late 20s.
WarCrimeWizard2026-01-07 08:09
Australia too. i make more than that and i have 3 housemates lol
the_vikm2026-01-07 09:18
Please, take a look at actual numbers
h2odragon002026-01-07 10:43
The fuck!?
I just converted that amount to my currency and that is, I estimate, someone with a **very** high paying position would make in year.
And we are talking about CEO levels salary.
CassianAVL2026-01-07 11:00
I'd live like a king in my third world country with a third of that as an annual salary.
AuspiciousLemons2026-01-07 06:13
That's still spending a significant portion of their yearly salary on gacha if they C6R5 every new banner.
Immediate_Demand48412026-01-07 06:20
Yeah and ..it's their money they earn it by working themselves and it's their choice how they spend it . I never understood people hating whales or other people going all in for their favourite character .
Like just because you can't do that doesn't give you any right to badmouth those who can
ProbingUranus242026-01-07 06:26
The problem is for people who C6R5 but go into debt for it. Just spend in moderation.
TypicalSwordfish02026-01-07 06:32
I live in japan, and that is indeed yearly. That is like 850k yen per month.
I think the tax and here is like 15% of your salary (in my case) then with the average 120k rent a month (assuming you get a cheap rent at Tokyo), they would still earn around 600k yen, which is like... Triple my net income as a permanent employee even though i still live pretty comfortably. So that is a pretty damn high salary for C6R5.
Kronman5902026-01-07 07:39
Are your groceries like 10x cheaper than NA cause goddamn i cant imagine that as a Canadian lol
TrumpChildOnahole2026-01-07 20:12
Lived there until recently and groceries are like four times cheaper than the US except some kinds of expensive fruits and veggies. Watermelon seemed expensive af in Japan to me
KaleidoscopeNo73752026-01-07 06:40
And this is why the game is design to cater to Asian Server, not NA server.
Adept-Objective-10662026-01-07 06:52
Calling 64k USD "not that high" is obnoxious and US-centric. In most Asian countries 64k USD annually is an extremely good salary and far above average. People are seriously out of touch.
HybridTheory20002026-01-07 10:01
The thing is, it balances out with our absurdly high living expenses. It is the reason why most NA players can't just simply C6R5 every single character, even with our "high" income.
likeawp2026-01-07 07:10
Great to see that 64k works great for others in other parts of the globe, but it's poverty money where I'm at lol. I'm comfortable enough to be a welkin only player, Cheers.
nickk10192026-01-07 08:03
lol being able to comfortably whale was one of the biggest motivators that got me through dental school
MightySamMcClain2026-01-07 08:07
In 1960 quarters were 90% silver and average pay was 4-10 silver quarters an hour. That's $50-$130 an hour at today's price
Adventurous_Sky61152026-01-07 08:56
Me with my 21k usd be like 🤡🤡
RAYVELUPISUNQUENOUGH2026-01-07 11:06
11000 dollar per year for me lmao , but for me everything pretty low price for us.
luxyuz2026-01-07 11:19
That's a very nice salary from my country perspective.
No_Clock12402026-01-07 12:09
and here my yearly salary is 7k euros nice
kuhaku15102026-01-07 12:30
People keep talking about this and that but it doesnt matter. If you only make 65k, even if the cost of living in your country is low, spending that much to get C6R5 is completely irresponsible.
But I already knew this long ago. While there are rich people who spend alot on genshin, its usually the average to below average making people who spend recklessly because they are financially illiterate.
eSheepys2026-01-08 02:59
Don't tell the genshin players about a job or salary they just won't understand cmon now

Screenshot looks like the Japanese equivalent of a W-2 (tax withholding form): [https://practicaljapan.com/how-to-read-japanese-gensenchoshuhyou/](https://practicaljapan.com/how-to-read-japanese-gensenchoshuhyou/)
And W2 is what? Why don't you mention what *your* country is?
That's almost certainly the annual salary, but ten million yen in Japan is a very good comfortable salary.
Whoever added the USD equivalent to that screenshot is implying 64k salary is a lot. Meanwhile US median salary is 84k\*, so 64k really isnt that much in the US.
\*EDIT: fixed median salary to 84k per US Census median household income for 2024.
OP also linked the original tweet, and the person asking doesnt seem to say about getting ALL characters at C6R5 in the original text, as the context was only refering to being able to C6R5 a character
but in Japan it may be pretty good
edit:(japan?)
It's just that US salaries are relatively overinflated to other nations.
But in Germany, the 3rd most powerful economy, 64k per year would put you WELL into the top of the middle class. Most people are lucky to earn 40k a year.
I'm still not in a whale income bracket by far.
The benchmark for "rich" tends to start at the so-called "six figure salary", or 100k+.
OOP's picture shows the first half of the slip with the yen amount being the gross salary earned throughout the year
I actually doubt if there's more than 1000 Japanese people who can make 64k monthly salary from work w/o other incomes. And those 1000 people probably don't play Genshin anyway.
It was so crazy to me at the time 😭
Tbh yeah need to be a bit careful about the apartments here.
Toronto being a mega city makes sense, same for the US where living in NY where it’s $5k a month for a single person the size of a shoebox
In comparison to say, North Dakota or Oklahoma where you can rent an entire house for half that price solely because they are in the middle of butt fuck nowhere
In cities like New York or San Francisco salaries can be quite high, but things like apartment rent are crazy expensive and can be double what you’d pay somewhere else.
The is also much more naked corruption. Which mean more of GDP goes into specific peoples pockets and not spread around.
I'm assuming you're in the sticks? I have jp friends in Tokyo and they say it's absolutely brutal
Housing 80k
Utility + phone bill +internet 10-20k (season depends)
Food + eating out 60k MAX (tbh rarely goes this high ussually 50k ish)
Etc 40k (again rarely go this high)
That is just about the median salary for a full time employee in Aus (I unfortunately know too well as I know I am not earning that yet)
I make mid-$90k range as a Haitian dude in South FL at 28 years old.
With upcoming promotion, I will touch around $115k.
If that's monthly tho... that's a different story entirely lol.
But for a lot of jobs that require a bachelor’s degree; your starting salary after university may be higher.

it's not that good.
