Sumeru, port ormos. Since unfortunately I can't include an img in my reply in this sub, search "Salm Location in Sumeru" on google, it'll give the location

Thanks! I also once saw an advanced age man named Bhai
ashu07062026-01-07 20:09
I saw that and immediately thought of SALMAN KHAN😭😭
CHONPSCa2026-01-07 15:17
The cat named neko in inazuma: finally a worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary
Cocoatrice2026-01-07 18:01
Actually Neko is not called cat, she is called sleeping child and is reference to some novel or something like that. The name is homophone for a cat, but doesn't mean cat. It's more like calling dog "dawg". Phonetically it's nearly identical, but it's just different word.
EDIT: Also using different language to call character something they are is quite popular. A dragon named Draco is perfect example of that.
CHONPSCa2026-01-07 18:07
The amount of references in genshin is crazy
michaelman902026-01-07 18:18
Video games in general. People who like to write also tend to like to read so they have a lot of material to reference. Same with people who make vs play video games.
Also references aside naming a cat something like (I presume) 寝子 is also a pun which may entertain people unfamiliar with the reference.
Cocoatrice2026-01-07 23:53
I mean, live action games tend to have more references than premium one time buy games, because they are simply larger. But a lot of games have references, tbh. Even single player AAA games.
Mendely_2026-01-07 19:54
It's like calling a cat Kat
AsthislainX2026-01-07 23:23
Maomao the cat
Pinky_Boy2026-01-07 19:57
don't forget yae miko
miko is her name, not her occupation. so technically you can call miko the miko
that always throws me off a bit
what42702026-01-07 20:46
It’s giving Nicole from Gumball. Her first name is Doctor because that’s the profession her parents want her to be.
Her current full name is Doctor Nicole Watterson
Isafox_drawing382026-01-07 21:59
Oh I didn’t know that! Must have been a stressful childhood for her…
what42702026-01-07 22:03
It does. Her parents are incredibly strict that they expect her to have straight As and even scold her for having an F on her GENDER. She eventually cut them off when the parents disapprove of Richard.
meowmeowwarrior2026-01-08 01:22
Lmao I didn't realise you could get an F on gender
what42702026-01-08 01:26
I don’t even know how they would react if Nicole was born a boy. Like, M on gender, is that a fail or not?? No one will know.
Cocoatrice2026-01-07 23:55
Yep. Tbh, Venti is also similar. Ventus means wind in Latin.
Nomad_Hermit2026-01-09 15:02
Vento in Portuguese. We call him Ventoinha (very small fans, like PC coolers, are called ventoinhas)
minkymy2026-01-08 02:16
I could've sworn that "Neko" written "Sleeping child" is a theoretical etymology for the origin of "Neko" as the word for "cat", and the reference is tied to a part of her quest chain and not her name specifically
ZhangRenWing2026-01-07 18:19
The jade betting merchant in Liyue is literally called Shitou or “stone”
KindredTrash4832026-01-07 21:58
Have you ever met Iron Ingot? That one's actually in English
RandomAussie1232026-01-08 09:55
Is he a big guy with a shovel?
RozalynFox2026-01-07 15:24
Ive met a cat named Cat. Some friends got ducks and their kid wanted to name one Ducky. It happens
Aromatic_Inspector892026-01-07 17:05
I personally find switching animal names fun. I had a "Lizard" the horse, "Oyster" the rabbit, and "Panda" the dog
_uwu_moe2026-01-07 17:42
Most of my childhood plushies have thoughtful names. Except for the oldest few just named something like bear and dog
Mikauren2026-01-07 18:01
My brother named his fish... FIsh. lmao
CuriousPenguin132026-01-08 06:52
my friend named his fish Fishfuck
fanonluke2026-01-07 20:03
A former roommate of mine had a male cat called Queen (as in female cat - which is much more obvious in my native language, since the word we use is much more exclusive to female cats lol).
RedVelvetJoy2026-01-07 22:16
I named one of my cats "Kucing" which is "cat" in my native language. She responds to that name, so I guess she approved.
Ok-Barracuda-40392026-01-08 01:44
Same, lol. I called my cats "Adik" sometimes, but they're very nonchalant so I would never know if they like it or not XD
Express-Bag-39352026-01-07 22:59
I have a cat named Kitty. But my mom calls her Mellow, so we went with her full name being Mellow Kitty.
OkExtension72892026-01-08 12:41
My son named his hen 'Daddy' because he loves dad so much. Daddy was kinda rebellious one and escaped often from the cage which led into hilarious discussions.
Everything happens.
CresDruma2026-01-07 15:45

There also the blacksmith named ahangar which means blacksmith in farsi
TeaTimeLion1232026-01-07 19:36
There’s also a cat in Port Ormos called “Sisi” most likely named after a popular Arabic nursery rhyme about a cat (bisi) called Sisi
GHOST55232026-01-07 23:00
do you know what pedarsag means?
Shahadem2026-01-07 16:15

JalebiFafdaSupremacy2026-01-07 16:21
There's also a girl inside the city named Kumari. I think in the bazaar.

Bimarstan is also there. Bimar means sick in Hindi. I saw shah rukh in sumeru reputation area as well.
Desperate_Yellow_4982026-01-07 17:50

micdia262026-01-08 00:32
Shah rukh is the biggest bollywood star.

zatenael2026-01-07 17:38
never forget that Genshin is the game where you can eat your Bread bread while drinking Tea tea in your Palace of Palacepalace and hang out with your cat, Cat
FlameDragoon9332026-01-07 19:38
to be fair, this is common in real life too. Locals call thing in their language, foreigners mistook it for a name, and call the thing the 'thing thing'.

Maniacal-Blueberry2026-01-07 17:56
When I was a kid, my dad named our dog "dog" and our cat "cat". Real creative there lmao. I wanted to name our dog "cat" and our cat "dog" but they said no :(.
NeonUnicorn972026-01-07 17:58
There are also so many balkan names and words. There's a girl named "Rijeka" which means "river" in croatia. Jahoda is strawberry in some slavic languages, tho in croatian it's jagoda, so close enough. And there's Ognjen, which is sraight up Yugoslavian name.
Cocoatrice2026-01-07 18:04
Kutta? Is it Kuutar's brother?
veronica_bloomiris2026-01-07 18:09
It's kuutar's soon to be friend/companion 😌
The-Iraqi-Guy2026-01-07 18:06
It's even funnier, Kutta is very close to the Arabic word for "cat" which is "Ketta"
neryben2026-01-07 18:12
When I was in elementary school, among the textbooks characters there were a dog called "Perrín" and a cat named "Gatín" (little dog and little cat, in Spanish).
Fabricati_Diem_Pvn2026-01-07 18:17
I've named my cat Descartes, pronounced "de-Kat", which in my native language means "the cat". So I guess that's me.

"Cat you're being annoying can you leave my room?" My cat will get off the bed and walk out it's really weird that she does but I'm very happy about it.
