F2P is F2P, there is no gray zone here. $5 is not F2P, you paid to play and there is nothing wrong with saying you contributed money to a game you like. It's OK to pay, just don't mortgage your home for Primos :)

I can understand the use of "sorta" in this case. The OP wanted to make it clear that from the perspective of pulling (the ONLY perspective that matters when it comes to determining whether you get Qiqi'd), they are essentially f2p. No pull was paid for with money.
In this particular case, it's a valid distinction to make. It's a lot easier to say "sorta f2p" than explain the nuance.

I rarely use Jean and Tighnari, only in very niche teams and got her C2 and him at C1
I don't use Diluc or Mizuki, got both at C0
I would also have no use for Qiqi, never got her
The gam gave me more constellations on characters I play the most, I literally can't complain
