It's been over a year since WL9 was released. What are the true odds of getting 4 materials vs 3 from Overworld Bosses?
I've looked it up multiple times every couple weeks and I've yet to find an authoritative answer. Some people guesstimate it's 20%, others say it's 40%, and some *swear* it must be 0% (skill issue imo). Anybody know if anyone's done data-gathering with ample sample size?

when you need to urgently upgrade a character for onslaught/ abyss/theatre: 3 drops
And normally I wouldn’t say personal data is very convincing, but as a disclaimer, I have **six accounts all at WL9**, and have been farming bosses on them since WL9 has been out (so about a year). I certainly have **NOT** gotten 4 boss drops 40% of the time, not even close.
**However**, doing some math you can start to realize that… maybe 40% is the right number after all? Maybe there’s something funky going on here.
At a 40% rate, you can expect an average of
(4 * 40%) + (3 * 60%) = 3.4
mats per fight. In order to max out one character under these assumptions (46 boss mats), you will need 46/3.4 = 13.5 boss fights. And actually… this kind of tracks.
Assuming you did 14 boss battles (because you can’t do half a boss battle), you’d only need 4 of those battles to drop 4 mats instead of 3, to get your 46 mats. And well, that’s closer to 28% of your battles. Kind of weird how that happens.
This is all anecdotal however; take this comment with a grain of salt.
When you have 16/20 mats? 0% of getting 4 mats.
