Ascending Varesa and leveling Chevreuse, Genshin Impact Day 57
Hello! I played a lot today and I think I did pretty useful stuff too.
I explored more with Varesa, to get her flowers but also more of the dino stuff to ascend her. I climbed waaay up this big peak and I think I saw inside the volcano? I remember a little quest or something I started a few days ago and they want me to go in here? I’m out! I also saw a green big looking Hilichurl, so either he’s a mutant or all the other Hilichurls I’ve fought so far are babies. And then I found a bull who I ran away very fast from seeing how much damage he did. Speaking of damage, it really is annoying how Varesa can’t be healed with that Bond of Life thing from her weapon. I can’t even get rid of it most of the time with Jean, so then what? She just… loses HP till she dies. It makes me not want to use her skill in a fight because she dies so fast. Chevreuse better be able to heal her sufficiently.
That exploring also got me the last few Pyroculus until I could level the Statue, and I had already found a Shrine so I could go there immediately. Feels very satisfying to open them!! There was a ferret looking thing there too, very annoying. I fought them before but I think most of the time I ran away before they died lol they take a while to kill.
So the last thing I needed to ascend Varesa to level 80 was Electro gems, but I didn’t have any or any Dust to convert it. I did want to fight this boss for Chevreuse already, and since he was Electro I figured that was the perfect solution to combine it, get the materials for Chevreuse and the gems for Varesa. It wasn’t very far away, I swam there pretty fast and saw some new things. There’s some big structure here underwater, but I just kinda went straight for the boss. Had to look up how to get in there though, the entrance isn’t close to the boss!
This seahorse was annoying, you gotta get rid of the shield fast before it starts doing crazy stuff. Most of the time that worked fine with Xiangling, Rosaria and Collei but sometimes either of them died and I couldn’t do it. I fought it twice and it went fine, but maybe next time I’ll ask for help. But in the new area I did get enough Hydroculus to get the Fontaine Statue up too! Two statues and Shrines in one day, nice.
And I did get enough gems for Varesa (did have to buy some Dust and use it to convert though) and seahorse stuff for Chevreuse. I ascended Varesa but I didn’t level her yet, I didn’t have so many books so I wanted to level Chevreuse first. But I was poor and had to do mora Leyline.
Now I also need a weapon for Chevreuse, and some of you guys said I can make a spear in Fontaine that’ll be fine for her. I could buy the craft recipe, but didn’t have enough of those damn crystals to craft it. This is Flowing Purity all over again!! But this time I knew some of the spots to get crystals, I managed to get 30 and I’ll get the rest tomorrow. And speaking of Flowing Purity I did finally get it to level 70. And with some more mora and level books I got Chevreuse to level 50!
I think I did most of the things I can for Varesa now. She’s ascended to level 80, her weapon needs one more ascension, she has Artifacts (still working on leveling those) and her Talents are mostly leveled (just need more dino teeth). I’ll keep working on that but I want to focus on Chevreuse now. So tomorrow I’ll get her weapon and keep ascending her. I did already give her artifacts, she just needs a bunch of HP right? I could almost give her a full 5 star set with lots of HP. I’ll level her talents too but I don’t have any of the books.
That was today, pretty fruitful. I’ll keep exploring Fontaine, also to get flowers for Chevreuse, it’s a nice place! If you have any tips or advice let me know, I’ll see you tomorrow, bye bye

Folks weren't lying when they said this is a good weapon for Varesa - but they're speaking from the standpoint of having fully kitted-out, high-level teams. You're absolutely correct - if you can't clear the Bond of Life, the weapon is basically just a death sentence. But if you CAN keep it cleared, the buffs it grants are very good.
I'd recommend you use another weapon for now - even a 3-star one, if you must. It might seem like all this effort you went through to get Flowing Purity leveled was a waste, but think of it as an investment for the future.
In the meantime put some effort into equipping Jean with what she needs to keep the heals coming more reliably. Get her an Energy Recharge sands artifact (preferably from the Viridescent Venerer set) and an Energy Recharge weapon (if you've unlocked Fishing, you can get a very nice ER sword in Fontaine called Fleuve Cendre Ferryman; you can purchase it from the fishing representative on the east coast of the Court of Fontaine island). A Healing Bonus crown artifact might be a good idea, too.
Also, be sure that you're using Jean's Elemental Skill often. You don't need to suck in enemies by holding it - just tap it and it will produce energy particles to help fill up her Burst fast. Ideally, with lots of Energy Recharge and frequent use of her Elemental Skill, you can keep Jean's healing field out as often as possible (every 20 seconds).
And don't worry, I use Jean's skill and burst plenty, she's the one I use the most in a fight. I do almost always have her burst it's just that not even her burst can clear the HP effect for Varesa. Which confuses me because Jean's burst always heals my whole team to their full HP, but apparently not even that is enough for the HP thing for Varesa
(For the record, "Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers" is probably the best 3-star Catalyst for supports. It gives a big damage bonus to the next character you switch to which you switch to another character from the one holding the book. The book itself is pretty weak in terms of damage - but support characters often don't care much about the damage they deal - only what they can do to help others do better damage. Many supports prefer TToDS over 4-star or even 5-star options.)
Is Varesa's HP bar pretty much completely red with Bond of Life by the time Jean heals? If so, that could explain it. Each time Flowing Purity's ability triggers (this can happen every 10 seconds), it adds a Bond worth 24% of Varesa's HP. These bonds stack, so if you don't clear it before the next time it triggers, then you're up to 48%. Then 72%. Then 96%.
Jean can only heal with her Burst every 20 seconds, so you'll likely have at least 48% Bond to deal with - which SHOULD be doable. But if you've gone longer than 20 seconds and it's even higher, it might get to be more than Jean can keep up with. Her heals are strong, but healing 96% bond is almost as much as healing a character from zero to full.
I do hope you don't accidentally trigger any quests that spoil anything for you though. So far it looks like you've been lucky, and only triggered side quests that don't really affect much.
Just want to remind you of something I mentioned in a previous post of yours; if you get to Inazuma, you can fish for The Catch, a polearm that is very good on Xiangling. Is Xiangling still holding your favonius lance? If you get the Catch, you can give the fav lance to Chevy, that's a good weapon for her.
Either way, glad you're having fun!
Chevreuse's healing is slower than Jean's and probably won't be enough to clear the bond as well. As for her weapon, rightful reward is not bad, but don't forget the black tassel to add HP. 3 star weapons use up much fewer ores to level up compared to 4 stars.
