A lot of minor items are just assets anyone can use for any game I’m pretty sure. I remember a game was using Mondstadt buildings but it turns out it’s just an asset pack anyone has access to.

Not really.

Except that assets pack was created based on Genshin, as shown on its store page. The game's creator already acknowledged this, though they bought from a different store where it isn't stated.

SvensonIV2026-01-08 13:37
Yes. Most likely a graphic designer got asigned to create the art. Artist is lazy and copies some random graphic from somewhere else. Supervisors don't know that and then you get to this point.

Disagree, there are plenty of cases where the true answer is malice. Remember, this is Tencent. They *hate* miHoYo.

There is no conspiracy, there may be human error AND there may be intentional malice.

~~Didn't mihoyo copy assets from zelda or something at some point? Or was it another game copying genshin assets?~~
I can't find any info when doing a quick google search, so it was probably the other way around.
Mihoyo copied Zelda to a really high degree, especially in Mondstadt. Some of the bigger world structures and formations are pretty much 1:1 taken from Zelda. And looking at the initial mechanics and gameplay back then, it was very heavily "inspired" by Zelda. And they did it again in Sumeru, but this time with the music elements and Koroks lol
Babu-xhin2026-01-08 12:16
You smoking weed?
hellschatt2026-01-08 12:33
Did you forget all the allegations from back then? Clearly, people agreed, and it was one of the biggest critiques.
Not only that, there were videos showcasing the structures in Genshin next to the ones in BotW. They had the same shape.
The Koroks and playing music to do stuff in the world mechanic IS from Zelda.
The asset thing, as I said, I'm not sure, I might remember wrongly and it might have been the other way around. But the assets have hidden watermarks in them, and I remember learning about them through an incidient related to genshin, but I don't remember who stole from whom exactly.
telegetoutmyway2026-01-08 12:46
Gameplay and inspiration was definitely talked about yes, there wasn't really any accusations of stolen assets though at all. I dont remember videos showcasing 1:1 structures either, but nobody is a arguing that it wasn't heavily inspired by botw though. Thats basically why it became popular, a f2p botw clone on non-nintendo platforms, right at the start of lockdown from covid.
FlameDragoon9332026-01-08 13:01
> But the assets have hidden watermarks in them, and I remember learning about them through an incidient related to genshin, but I don't remember who stole from whom exactly.
Genshin was stolen from. The houses in Springvale have veeeeery subtle mihoyo logo in them.
Secret_Conclusion_932026-01-08 12:20
Give me one real example of copied asset that exist on 1.0.
People who said Genshin copied Zelda 1:1 never play Tales series or Assassin's Creed series.
We're talking about Nintendo with its lawyer, they won't let it pass if it's true.
hellschatt2026-01-08 12:35
I'm not 100% on this, that's why I worded it that way. But clearly, people got stuck on that part and ignore the rest of my comment, which is still valid.
SoloWaltz2026-01-08 12:22
V1 is very BotW coded, but there's nothng like a straight asset ripoff, or Palworld level where the desgins look 100% similar.
This part of the gamefeel has been dying ltitle by little with each new version though.
Although assets don't seem to have been stolen, at least I can't find any evidence, the rock and mountain formations/shapes as shown in this video are sometimes copied almost 1:1, especially in the initial version of genshin. There's more copied mountains and areas in the game, you can find many such youtube videos.
Further, in Sumeru, they copied the concept of [Koroks with the Aranaras](https://i.imgur.com/K0SIAV6.png). You need to find those little forest creatures in the overworld, just like in Zelda. Further, the [music playing concept to have effects in the overworld](https://i.imgur.com/zFrF8Na.png) has also been copied from Zelda, which is notoriously known for it. They did somewhat expand upon them and went a different route though.
Genshin today definitely cannot be considered a copy anymore, it developed it's own unique ideas, concepts, and has its own feel (even though the copied parts are still in the game...)
BUT it definitely started out by copying Zelda heavily, it was pretty unanimously agreed back then. It's why people got into it in the first place, people were like "there is a free Zelda clone out there, check it out", that's why I even heard about genshin back then, and it's why I even got into it.
That people would deny those claims is just wild to me.
Andre02_2026-01-08 13:11
same way how totk ended up "copying" lot of stuff from Genshin. It's not a blatant 1:1, but some part are for sure not original
CHILLED_02026-01-08 14:31
Directly stealing an asset like in the post is not the same as getting inspiration from another existing game. You definitely starting reaching when you claimed they "copied mountains".

The funny thing is, pretty much every time Hoyo gets called out for plagiarism, the accusations fall apart under any scrutiny. I've only seen a single accusation actually be compelling, but the individual who claimed to have been plagiarised was chill with it, and no further investigation happened to verify it.
vansky2572026-01-08 11:39
Yup. There've been tons of times Hoyo's blatantly plagarised from other games, but due to their association with the CCP probably, they can get away with it.
Ew.
MisterSpacemanStuff2026-01-08 11:53
>There've been tons of times Hoyo's blatantly plagarised from other games,
Like I said, I have yet to see an accusation that actually held up under *scrutiny*. That's not about getting away with it, but about having ground at all.
> but due to their association with the CCP probably, they can get away with it.
Hoyo has membership by requirement. It's not a matter of choice. China is a one party state. It doesn't help them get away with blatant law breaking. (Heck, they'd need to break the law first).
vansky2572026-01-08 12:41
A company as big as hoyo can get away with plagarising smaller games lol no one will bat an eye, as clearly shown by all the downvotes im getting. People can say that it hasn't been held up under scrutiny, but that doesn't mean that they haven't blatantly copied something. Evernight's trailer was a pure rip off of SHf's trailer.
MisterSpacemanStuff2026-01-08 12:52
Silent Hill.
Silent. Hill.
One of the most well regarded and well known horror game franchises of all time. Published by billionaire company Konami. That's your example for smaller games you can get away with plagiarising?
miHoYo's audience are otaku. Their tagline is 'Tech Otakus save the world'. They built their company on Evangelion stans.
Plagiarism is taking another's work and passing it off as your own. There isn't a plane of existence where they would make a trailer that takes after SHf's trailer and *not* expect the players to actually notice. Hommage or parody, they want you to notice.
And not only is it a massively high profile project to take from, it's also a company that's 'got hands'. If they had a plagiarism dispute with Konami, it would not be good for miHoYo.
So yeah, it doesn't hold up under scrutiny.
Andre02_2026-01-08 13:14
>So yeah, it doesn't hold up under scrutiny.
my friend you might as well be arguing with a wall. There's no convincing for these """people""".
Take a single quick look at their profile bio, the brain dead annoying behavior becomes clear.
Plagiarism is plagarism ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ not to mention Genshin was literally known as a BoTW clone heh.
MisterSpacemanStuff2026-01-08 15:45
It's amazing how poorly considered these are.
1. Onmyoji made an under the belt jab because they know a lawsuit wouldn't have any grounds to stand on. The actual end result is too different. Additionally, Onmyoji is big enough that homage is the fair assumption. Unlike taking from an indie game.
2. HI3's events are typically based on existing game properties, such as Plants vs Zombies or Dicey Dungeons. Taking an existing game and changing it is how genres work. **They make no pretense that the mode is original.** Here, they kept too much of the naming scheme, so they had to change it.
This is like paying homage to Star Wars by having a character be a Star Doors fan and using a Lightsaber, based in their favourite franchise Star Doors, only for Disney to say 'yo, no lightsaber. Call it a lasersword instead.'
3. Ah, yes, using archetypical imagery, totally plagiarism. I guess we also need to sue Sonic the Hedgehog for having an image of Blaze diving. Yeah, things look similar. It's still not 'taking another's work and passing it off as your own'. It's not traced, it has plenty of original elements, the posing is different, etc.
4. Already covered this.
>not to mention Genshin was literally known as a BoTW clone heh.
You do know the Genshin team has explicitly stated several times that they considered BoTW as one of its biggest inspirations, right? BoTW very much deliberately set out to reinvent how Open Worlds are constructed and navigated. It spawned an entire new subgenre.
Not exactly plagiarism if you shout from the rooftops who you're influenced by.
So yeah, miHoYo keeps 'getting away with it' because it's not plagiarism. And even then, when they do get backlash, they tend to amend their work, like they did with the card game event.
Alrubirea2026-01-08 13:26
>There've been tons of times Hoyo's blatantly plagarised from other games,
None of these rip assets from another game as we are seeing here and are just varying levels of inspiration, from lightly to heavily.

It's not the same thing.
Plagiarize is when you create something by coping very closely something else, like what Tencent did with Horizon. No asset was stolen from Horizon, but this is not the case here.
This is asset theft.
Ryuunoru2026-01-08 18:38
> It's not the same thing.
**It is.**
"Plagiarism is the act of presenting another party’s intellectual property - such as text, ideas, data, or other creative work - as one’s own, whether copied verbatim (1:1) or closely paraphrased, without proper attribution or authorization."
> Plagiarize is when you create something by coping very closely something else, like what Tencent did with Horizon.
**Plagiarism is also when you copy something 1:1. It doesn't require changes.**
"Plagiarism is the act of presenting another party’s intellectual property - such as text, ideas, data, or other creative work - as one’s own, whether copied verbatim (1:1) or closely paraphrased, without proper attribution or authorization."
>This is asset theft.
**Which, considering the assets are intellectual property, is a case of plagiarism.**
"Plagiarism is the act of presenting another party’s intellectual property - such as text, ideas, data, or other creative work - as one’s own, whether copied verbatim (1:1) or closely paraphrased, without proper attribution or authorization."

I was about to expand further to eliminate any possible retorts, but figured it wasn't worth the effort. And I was right about that.
LaplaceZ2026-01-08 20:02

MisterSpacemanStuff2026-01-08 10:55
Plagiarism is taking another's work and passing it off as your own, so this kind of asset theft is plagiarism.
FallenAngelII2026-01-08 10:58
Only when it comes to intangible things like words, ideas, work, or expressions. When it comes to actual physical assets, it's intellectual property theft. For the most part, plagiarism isn't illegal. IP theft is.
Ryuunoru2026-01-08 18:24
> When it comes to actual physical assets
The things copied here are not physical assets.
>it's intellectual property theft.
Also no - intellectual property is not physical. That's normal property.
>For the most part, plagiarism isn't illegal.
Also false.
I'm honestly impressed you got *everything* in your comments wrong.
FallenAngelII2026-01-08 19:06
Art is a physical asset in that it exists as things other than in your mind.
>Also false.
Except not. Plagiarism isn't illegal unless you literally take someone's actual property and resell it under your name. Just look at Pokemon vs. Pal World or all of the Guitar Hero copies, with Guitar Hero itself being a rip-off of a Japanese game.
LiDragonLo2026-01-08 19:31
And palworld isn't plagiarism :/
Ryuunoru2026-01-08 19:36
> Art is a physical asset in that it exists as things other than in your mind.
Art as a legally protected form is ALWAYS non-physical. Even for statues and similar concepts - if someone makes a replica of a statue, it's still **copyright infringement**, it's still copying the information of the statue.
When we're talking about physical property, you would have a point when e.g. a statue gets stolen. But we're not talking about a statue or something physical. **We're talking about digital art. That is not a physical asset.**
>Except not. Plagiarism isn't illegal unless you literally take someone's actual property and resell it under your name.
You don't need to resell in order for it to be illegal. Plagiarism indeed isn't always illegal but in most cases, it is, because the **infringed property is usually protected by copyright**. That's the neat thing about copyright applying by default to any non-banal work.
>Just look at Pokemon vs. Pal World or all of the Guitar Hero copies, with Guitar Hero itself being a rip-off of a Japanese game.
Okay, looked at it. What's your point?
Ryuunoru2026-01-08 18:23
Plagiarism also covers outright theft of assets. You don't have to change something for it to be considered plagiarism.
Advendra2026-01-08 10:57
That's INTENTIONAl just to get people to make the thing goes viral, hence making an exposure popularity among the gamers, especially the big community of Genshin.
Yeah, that's intentional, and then they could "fix" it later.

Ew.
Silent.
So yeah, it doesn't hold up under scrutiny.
my friend you might as well be arguing with a wall. There's no convincing for these """people""".
Take a single quick look at their profile bio, the brain dead annoying behavior becomes clear.

Plagiarism is plagarism ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ not to mention Genshin was literally known as a BoTW clone heh.
>There've been tons of times Hoyo's blatantly plagarised from other games,
Which?

What's next. You gonna accuse the Bangboo events in ZZZ for "Plagiarizing" fall guys?
Plagiarize is when you create something by coping very closely something else, like what Tencent did with Horizon. No asset was stolen from Horizon, but this is not the case here.
This is asset theft.
Whatever you're saying: Cool, I'll assume you're right.
But basically you're right, it's Reddit, it's never worth the effort.
They are.
The things copied here are not physical assets.
>it's intellectual property theft.
Also no - intellectual property is not physical. That's normal property.
>For the most part, plagiarism isn't illegal.
Also false.
I'm honestly impressed you got *everything* in your comments wrong.
>Also false.
Except not. Plagiarism isn't illegal unless you literally take someone's actual property and resell it under your name. Just look at Pokemon vs. Pal World or all of the Guitar Hero copies, with Guitar Hero itself being a rip-off of a Japanese game.
Yeah, that's intentional, and then they could "fix" it later.
[Evidence ](https://postimg.cc/5Y8y8sJy)
Obviously yes.
>"Oh no, one random employee/outsourcing company goofed and plagiarized an asset".
And a whole lotta people from the publishing company did the same by virtue of accepting the asset. It doesn't matter for the end result: IP theft is IP theft.
>These incidents happen so often in CN
Doesn't make them normal or unworthy of discussion.
>hoyo themselves have done it in the past
#Prove it.
> leave it to companies to sort it out between themselves.
We're discussing it, not trying to sort it out. Learn what words mean.
*Anyway…*
Most game associates them has it's either has copy on other games or ain't even original design, based example is Wuthering Waves or Blue Protocol Star Resonance (If I'm Right)
