When are people gonna learn?
A friend just posted a rant over not being able to complete Durin's quest in time since it's time gated. Even though he said something like "I know they remind us to give 5 days but—" then proceeds to complain about it's such a bad design and yada yada.
Like, bro, you have 42 days to complete it. People are posting left and right about how it's time gated. And you only complain about it now?
I'm not gonna argue about "It's just 60 primos", because any amount of primogems is valuable for F2P. But this is his own negligence and complaining at this point just seems ridiculous.
"I thought it was 5 days in game not 5 days IRL".
Again, not anyone's fault but yours. I can't stress enough that if during the whole 6 weeks you can't be bothered to check the requirements of the quest, it's not Hoyo's fault. Whether or not it's a bad design is a different kind of discussion.

no it's still atleast partially Hoyo's fault for making the player unfriendly design choice that adds nothing to the quest
That is seriously what has happened.
I already did the quest btw, I just think it was dumb to make you wait 5 rl days.
Why do you still blame Hoyo if you know you have 5 weeks to complete something that takes 5 days?
I can see it being a bit unfair for people that just started a few days ago but not longtime players that actually know it's a limited time event .
because it didn't need to take 5 days
Don’t like it, don’t do it, do something else
I don’t like the sims, I’m going to BLAME EA for that. Or I could just, you know, move on with my life and not go out of my way making sure people know I BLAME them for something
Also, I think the point I’m trying to make in vain might “be a little hard for you to comprehend”, so I’m done wasting my time on people like you, good day.
>disliking an aspect of something doesn't mean disliking the entire thing
maybe I need to be a little harsher too and say blame is about someone being responsible for something I think is bad
Think of episodes of any tv show. After a certain date, ALL episodes are now available.
Even limited time events let you play the whole story before the last day, so you can wait out the small bits and play it in one go. The point is *choice*.
Why not complain and bitch about something online than actually doing the time gated quest , it's easier 🤣
Man.
Quest with details > Community known for not or badly reading doesn't read > Gets mad when they find out
Yep. I'm ready for the laughs.
It's gacha man. Take it down a notch. It's 5 days over 42 days for 60 primos.
Sorry but if you forgot what you did the day before it's not something good to brag about.
Or you simply don't care about that story and just want to skip everything to get reward
god forbid someone criticizes a wholly unnecessary restriction the game puts on a quest. tell me then, what narrative or practical function did it serve?
Imagine if you're enjoying an Archon Quest but then it says "you need to be AR 20 to do the next part. Also you can't actually level to AR20 until 3 days from now even if you meet all the other requirements, good luck."
Then you get to AR20, do part of the quest and it's like "You need to be AR30 to-"
Literally go fuck yourself and just let me do the story.
Sucks even more for streamers of the game as well. Like, instead of saying "hey, let's dive into this character's quest today", you get like 4 snippets of unsatisfying "oh, that's it? well, I guess we'll do the rest tomorrow." and only one big finale day, that still feels weak since it's so strung out.
There really should be a prompt that's like "this is a good spot for a break. or maybe you want to continue?". There are some dialogue choices like that but they are SPARSE.
We're happy because it's Genshin and we like it, but hell in any other game that would be pissing me off lol let me continue the damn story don't make me wait five fucking days
Why have a skip time function in the game and then force irl time restrictions? I understand for WQ because those are found from exploration, which is implying a time investment, but not story quests.
That's what op's friend (and pretty much everyone that's going to post about this for the next 5 days) is complaining about.
Sure, it has been a long time since that quest started, but I'd just rather play things that don't expect me to keep to a fucking schedule. Just let us skip in-game days and be done with it.
Hoyo, as much as I love their games, has been really hammering on daily logins and it makes me sad. Temper Thyself is insurmountable to me, because some days *I just can't be in game for half the week.*
Is it "my fault" if I miss the quest? (Which I will not, I'm having to fucking plan this out...) Yes. Is it pleasant game design? No, it fucking sucks.
I mean, I'm with you on this one, it's a predatory game design that forces you to login every single day, but on the other hand it's a life service gacha game. If you still want to play Genshin, but don't have enough time, you'll have to expect that you will definitely miss out on a lot of content and rewards, because the game doesn't care if you have a life outside of the game
Personally, as a day one player I'm playing Genshin on and off in the story order, and I'm still at the Chasm. If I'm interested in the story of an event I missed, I just watch it on youtube
I get sad every time I see people turning the entertainment the games are supposed to provide into a full-time job. Why? Because of damn fomo
Yea thats hoyo fault, look how fucking dry this patch is. Its not like they are doing us a favor, story quests are literally the advertisements for pulling the character. They did this so you had something to look forward to and be excited over despite being another story quest. Also the people who complained that they have nothing to do in genshin, were mostly old comments which they used it as an argunemnt of how the game lacked endgame content. It was mostly used by streamers if we are being fr, once they did the abyss and archon quests and reviews 1-2 character(assuming on creator server) they basically got nothing to make content out of.
And it says 5 days. It doesn't have to be 5 consecutive days. That means if you can't login for a few days, you still can continue the quest anytime you login again as long as it's within the 42 days deadline.
I mean, Liben is also forcing you to login at least 5 days out of the 7 days duration of the event. You can't speedrun him. If you fail to login, you will miss the reward. Yet I don't see anyone complaining about Liben.
Also again, it doesn't have to be 5 consecutive days. If you're not in the mood to do it today, you still can do it any other day you have longer time to do it, as long as it's within the 42 days deadline. You can even do it once a week and still be able to complete it in time if you started the first week it came out.
Not sure what other people’s schedules are like but weeks and months can easily pass without a good time for me to sit through and focus on hours of quest or exploration. I’d enjoy everything much more if I can find a comfortable time to do them.
I think requiring 5 real life days is good for the story, but I personally don’t like the time limit for the rewards.
That's barely an excuse, near everyone has a job.
Im sure you understand, lol.
And people STILL would make post complaining they forgot or ran out of time or whatever. That’s how people were able to predict posts like these. People will procrastinate to the very last minute without fail, and complain about not having enough time.
So while I’m not thrilled about the 5-day split, the complaints are the same as usual regardless.
Anyway, because the devs have certain plans regarding events that require the players to be up to date to a) not being spoiled. And b) understand the logic behind the playing mechanics. They put forth rewards to entice the players to play the main story so they are up to date when the next update that requires you know what's going on on the story drops.
I have missed several rewards in FGO because I'm not up to date, but I don't want to advance a game if I'm not having fun (I'm not dropping FGO I never miss an event because they are all fun) since I put having fun as the most important priority I literally don't mind missing rewards if the alternative is playing forcefully at the risk of my own enjoyment.
ANYWAY my point is the reward is because a bunch of players don't actually advance the story and the devs pretty much think that your enjoyment will go up if you actually read the story so they give additional rewards if you do it on a timeframe they set.
I play Genshin super casually. Sometimes I don't even play for weeks at a time because I know I'm not having fun and I don't want to force myself.
It sucks that I missed the selenic chronicles and the Durin quest, but I'm not going to force myself to play Genshin when I'm not having fun.
I wish there was an opportunity to do these at a later date, and to catch up. Same with limited events. But these systems not existing won't force me to play the game.
The only first is it being a character quest.
The timer being a lie is awful. Also it should just let you do in game days not irl days.
Its a system that could improve and we can recognize that.
These are people who are already logging in everyday, or at least a few days a week to do things in game. Adding one more section to do that takes 10-15 minutes shouldn't be too much of a bother. Yet... here we are.
People who doesn't want others to complain are lifeless. Right now it is exams period. So either we stop studying and do the fking quest or fk it and let the quest go bye bye.
>I can't stress enough that if during the whole 6 weeks you can't be bothered to check the requirements of the quest
My dude, this is the first time they're timegating a story quest, OBVIOUSLY people would assume it's not timegated, because why would it?
Now that I'm looking at it, sure, it's written in the events page. But it's not like I ever read these kind of story event pages so I was never gonna notice it regardless, and they've ***never*** done this before. Stop defending this, holy shit
>People are posting left and right about how it's time gated
I, personally, never saw anyone posting about it except today.
Your title doesn't even make sense, since it never happened before, so there was no opportunity to "learn"
As for "there's 6 weeks", I play other games and I'm in a period where I'm less focused on Genshin, simply. Let's not defend this.
For anyone who hasn't started it yet, there are 5 separate legs of the story quest, and you can only do one leg of the quest each day. You don't need a full 24 hours between each leg - just need to wait until server reset to begin the next leg. And each leg of the quest is relatively short - talking like, 20 minutes. Provided you can remember to start the whole chain with enough time, I thought it was a very nice pace throughout, and the breaks in between the quest legs felt natural.
I only finished Durin’s quickly because the story presentation was cool
Aware it’s still annoying for others and timegating was dumb on Hoyo’s part, just sharing my experience
It feels like people want the game to cater to their individual tastes. And I can understand that, we all have our own preferences. But at the end of the day we are served a product developed by a company for profit and in their own interests. We are the consumers but that doesn’t mean the product has to cater to us. And even if it did, the audience is so diverse that it is virtually impossible to satisfy everyone’s wishes. Time-gated rewards are not a problem for everyone.
Some things they do are tone deaf or inconvenient to us, but we are playing THEIR game on THEIR terms. And we can leave any time and make our own game if we want to. It is not their fault if we miss time-gated rewards, events, etc.
In saying that, Genshin should have a catch-up mechanic. I understand maybe time-gating so people don't just blow content all in one day. But what reason outside of anti-consumer is there to arbitrarily time-gate quests to real days? Make it so people can't blow through a quest in 5 days, whatever. But maybe in the last week of the event, just allow people to blow through the whole thing all at once if they want.
People are lazy. But FOMO doesn't make people less lazy, it just simply makes them give up. They've "missed out" and there's no catching up. Why bother then? If a game is stressing people out, they just stop playing. They don't go, "oh, I'll do better next time".
In saying that, I don't really care about missing out on 60 primogems. But I'd probably be more miffed about missing out on the quest itself but as far as I'm aware, that isn't the case?
There is nothing else to say.
Stereotypes exist for a reason.
If you really want to be this predatory Hoyo, at least give me a way to catch up with anything I missed story-wise given that's the only good aspect of your game.
In my defense I've been very busy and had zero plans to make a post and also could've predicted that I'd miss it
I hate it even if they told us before.
There **is** an amount of primos that isn't worth malding over even as f2p, I won't tell you exactly where the line is, but I'm telling you 60 is absolutely on the "not worth it" side of that line.
Additional note: It's also true it's shit game design, and it's shit on purpose.
With the usual quest structure, you could pause and continue in your own time, or clear it in one go.
There's flexibility there. Here the choice is taken from the players.
I returned after a long break from the game. I'm still considering dropping keeping up with their shit and I am already skipping Theatre, Abyss and Stygian.
Genshin's initial appeal was that exploration... it was organic and rewarding. They couldve easily baked those extra 500 into the exploration chests and puzzles themselves, giving new players a chance to catch up, but NOPE. Explore Natlan NOW OR MISS OUT! EXPLORE NOD KRAI NOW OR MISS OUT! FINISH THE NOD KRAI STORY NOW OR MISS OUT.
Meanwhile the new player: o_o um... so... to experience the story... i need to skip to nod krai? I have no idea whats going onnnnn.
But 60 primos isnt the end of the world, so Im not doing his quest when i dont wanna:))
and no, ppl aint gonna learn 🙂↕️🙂↕️
The fact that selenic chronicles follows the same design then they lock you out of it for a whole patch if you do the story quest is even worse.
