Lunar-Reactions Question
I want to pull for a lot of the related characters, especially the incoming Columbina (Arlecchino needs her alright), but I have a problem, can you please explain to me the Lunar-Reactions. I’ve been reading the kit of Lauma, Nefer and Flins at least 3 times each, and I still don’t understand what are those, how they work, is my brain not potent enough to understand ?
I’m a player since 1.0; I stopped after Furina’s release, came back to get Clorinde (lost) and then to get Skirk. I then left again and went back recently for Arlecchino. I’ve been pretty active in the game since and I really enjoyed the Nod-Krai lineup.
Thank you in advance 🙏

Lunar bloom doesn't change anything but when you trigger it you gain verdant dew that Lauma, Nefer and Columbina can use.
Crystalize creates 3 pillars that fire when you keep triggering lunar crystallize.
I kept it short. BTW I don't know if you want here for lore reasons, but Bina doesn't do anything for arlecchino.
It's not entirely useless.
Is Ineffa a must for Flins or can I go without her and put something else ?
Instead of electro becoming electro charged when paired with hydro for example, it will be lunar charged, which will create clouds that bring down thunder that is affected by the crit stat of the character that created it.
Same with the others.
Lunar stuff *can* be complicated, but ill try to keep it as concise as possible. It just replaces its normal reaction counterpart.
Lunar bloom is the most confusing at first glance. It does nothing. You’ll see the text pop up but it’s exactly the same as regular bloom. Some attacks like lauma hold e and nefers skill do lunar bloom dmg however, that matters. All you really need to understand is that lunar dmg counters certain enemy gimmicks.
Lunar charged looks at the stats of all the characters involved in the reaction. You don’t need to know the math, just know that it can crit, unlike regular electro charged. It also spawns a cloud above the enemy that deals dmg every 2.5 seconds. Again, the fact that it deals lunar type dmg is the important part for dealing with certain enemies.
Lunar crystalize is the newest one coming in a few days. It only works with hydro though. So no pyro and geo lunar crystalize. It just spawns little geo constructs that do lunar dmg. Zibai herself will also deal lunar crystalize dmg with her skill.
All this to say, think of lunar as it’s own dmg type to deal with enemies who require it. Otherwise it’s just fancy text of the normal reaction.
The character kits are another story however, i can razor language explain that if you need.

They do good work
As an example, if Flins is in your party, hydro + electro causes the lunar charged reaction instead of electro charged. If Flins is on field using his skill or burst, his attacks do lunar charge damage directly. The reaction damage is different than normal elemental damage which affects character builds and party composition. In particular, it makes DMG% bonuses nearly useless for characters like Flins and Nefer.
Hope that helps!
Effects that boost Lunar-Charged damage will still boost this damage, though. For example, Flins's signature weapon, Bloodsoaked Ruins, boosts the equipper's Lunar-Charged damage, and this would affect both the damage his Burst deals, and also affect any Lunar-Charged reactions Flins triggers.
Others have already described what the Lunar Reactions are, but it's worthwhile to know that some characters can cause Lunar Reaction-flavored damage without actually triggering the reaction itself.
Lunar Crystalize: similar to Lunar Charge but with geo instead of electro (but still hydro). Damage is calculated roughly the same way. But instead of every 2s, the "totems" (equivalent to the cloud) do damage every 3 lunar crystalize reactions you trigger. So the faster you can trigger it, the more often you get "bonus" damage.
Lunar Bloom: the reaction itself doesn't do any damage. Whenever you trigger bloom, you get a "charge" that Nefer, Lauma and Columbina can consume with their kit. The only source of Lunar Bloom damage is characters themselves.
In general though, most of the Lunar damage comes from characters, not from the reactions themselves. In your Lunar Charge team, Flins and Ineffa do most of the damage themselves, the cloud you trigger will do some damage but it'll be 20k here and there, not 150k like Flins can do with his mini bursts. Same with Lunar Crystalize: Zibai and Columbina will cause the biggest hits while the "normal" reaction will hit for smaller amounts.
