only on the surface level and yes since it's enjoyable for me
YellowStardust032026-01-09 01:30
Hey, I am a day one player and a star rail player who began both games because of the lore. I will be honest, once Natlan hit the story got a little too convoluted even for me. HOWEVER!! As I have played more star rail, the subtle lore connections between it and Genshin make me WANT to know the lore of each even more. While, yes, extremely convoluted, once you research stories from each (highly recommend going to the fandom wiki) game and see how connected they are, it’s soo cool and made me want to jump back in to find more connections for myself!!
Auroreon2026-01-09 01:31
Yes absolutely. It’s a great. I urge you to take your time to enjoy the story and learn the lore. As big fan of writing, fiction, world building, and character design Genshin has been an oasis among live service games
HuTaosTwinTails2026-01-09 01:32
Yes. It's good. Idk how people would care or want to pull a character that they know nothing about.
Seraph1992026-01-09 01:32
It is the main selling point of the game and once you are caught up with exploration and have played all the event minigames (meaning they get kind of stale over time because they tend to be pretty similar with minor changes), and have realized the shallowness of the endgame combat content, the story and character interactions slowly become the only thing that really matters.
Everything else is just to make money so that this amazing multifaceted story can continue to unfold for us all, with constant smaller stories that explore key themes and concepts while repeatedly bringing myself and so many others to tears.
The stories, and the emotions and perspectives being communicated through them, are by far the most valuable things Genshin Impact has to offer.
zombieTL2026-01-09 01:32
Yeah absolutely, I play the game for the lore and story
Shahadem2026-01-09 01:35
The story is easy to follow but full of internally inconsistent contradictory disproveable illogical nonsense.
HI3 is even worse.
The current batch of writers at Mihoyo do not know how to write a video game story. By which I mean a story specifically written for the medium of a video game. They refuse to consider the player's PoV and refuse to put themselves in place of the player's character and ask themselves what they would want to do from that position.
AfternoonSame58532026-01-09 01:39
and retcon everywhere right? /s
Gold_Pineapple76442026-01-09 01:37
I have no reason to play a game if not for the story
cantbelievethisbut2026-01-09 01:38
Yes? I’m so excited for Tuesday
Chuck0062026-01-09 01:39
Genshin, yes. Other gachas, no clue what's happening half the time.
MofoPro2026-01-09 01:41
Most of it but don’t follow every tiny detail in all side stories but main plot line definitely
Tschmelz2026-01-09 01:41
If I didn’t like the story, I wouldn’t play the game.
Weaponmaster4702026-01-09 01:44
Yeah, it's a mess since Inazuma (Fontaine included) but it's amusing to see how the English side of the audience reacts to it.
Beacon22112026-01-09 02:20
Why do you think its a mess?
I think its pretty concise
ea_man2026-01-09 03:35
Agreed, from Inazuma it starts with endlessly cutscenes with no gamplay. I think it starts with that awfull questline about fireworks that it's just a->b->c->.... to listen to new cutscenes.
SecyaDenali2026-01-09 01:52
Yes and the subtle and not so subtle hints scattered across Tevyat. Aranara quest was peak don't care what anyone says, the whole Sakura quest and the Enka sure Inazuma can be an absolute pain in the arse but I do think it's where Genshin developers took a step up.
Veldin4612026-01-09 02:07
I love this game for many reasons, and story is definitely high on the list. I won't say I'm even close to knowing it all, if you gave me a lore quiz to do, I would probably fail it spectacularly, but I try, even if I have to open the wiki mid quest lol
Ravemst2026-01-09 02:18
Yes because it's the main focus of this game besides exploration. The story is very important and I advise you and others who skip it to pay attention to it.
Vast_Effect_12012026-01-09 02:27
Yea of course. It's really good
Khronify2026-01-09 02:59
There is no reason for me to ever play a game (or consume any media in general) if it doesn't have a compelling story. If it's not interesting to me I'll drop it very quickly, the fact that I've been playing Genshin since Day 1 and have no intention of ever quitting is a testament to how great it's been.
issm2026-01-09 03:10
No. It's a generic gacha story meant to sell characters.
No story has any effect on any other story or the world. Genshin's stories barely have any consequences themselves. The game puffs up, for example, a Gnosis being stolen as some sort of huge deal that's worth risking a giant international incident over, but basically every archon so far who's lost their Gnosis is just like, *whoop de friggen do, this has had zero impact on me and my country*
If you think one region is somewhat interesting, you can just hop in. Don't care about the next region? Hop out.
All the subtle lore hints that are so amazing are just pointless vagueposting. If any of that becomes relevant anywhere else, Mihoyo is just going to exposition dump it for you again anyways.
Ecstatic-Source60012026-01-09 06:28
did you skip all quests?
99% of WQ changing landscape. Natlan war delete NPCs who you not saved.
Random NPCs get progression in their personal lifes.
Venty become stronger cuz he realised Teyvat soon will be fucked.
Etc...
issm2026-01-09 08:53
You're really grasping at straws aren't you?
> 99% of WQ changing landscape
And? What effect does that have on the world?
Like, never mind actual main plot relevance.
Is there a single NPC in the Frostmoon camp that even talks about how I made the giant rock in the middle of their camp float up to the giant pillar in the distance that started glowing? Did any of them ask what was up? Are any of them going to go explore this new ancient place related to them that I discovered? Is anyone going to do anything with the giant open space I just made in their camp?
No?
Then from a story perspective, what difference does it make that the landscape changed?
> Natlan war delete NPCs who you not saved
And those NPCs were important to the game's overall story and lore, yes? Saving enough NPCs changes how the story progresses? Maybe I unlock a different side quest if a particular NPC survives?
> Random NPCs get progression in their personal lifes
Aka, the NPC never mattered from the start. So how does this prove that Genshin's stories represent real change and evolution in the world?
> Venty become stronger cuz he realised Teyvat soon will be fucked
Does that happen in the gacha locked quest?
Granted it might have happened in a non paywalled quest after I stopped caring.
_DestroyerX2026-01-09 03:16
It’s a story game, so yes.
ea_man2026-01-09 03:32
No, I just do open world and World Quests, if I want to see a movie I do that.
WQ are good :) there's not that much cutscenes.
Plus-Theme-32832026-01-09 11:53
Yeah, that's why am here
Xirtie2026-01-09 12:30
It's the main appeal of the game for me, so yes.
Kazzu6682026-01-10 01:04
Nope, I usually don't. Maybe if it's for a character I like, but most of the time I don't. I just don't care for the story aspect of most games. And I find this one especially boring most of the time. There's a few standout characters like scara and navia that I especially like, so I'll pay attention if it involves them. But most of the time I'm just spamming X on my controller 😭
