Forgive me for being a total noob but...
I'm sure you guys get asked this a million times, and I'm sure you're tired of it so I apologize in advance but I just started playing tonight and I don't know...what to do? Sounds so silly as this isn't my first open world game (or first gacha) but I made it to the three temples part in the Prologue and decided to stop to explore, learn the different mechanics, read all item descriptions, etc. But explore what exactly? I've been running around the Lake and Woods areas and I'm not seeing anything? I found one chest so far. I thought I was going to be innundated with an overwhelming amount of content (which I'm looking forward to honestly). Where's all this stuff? 😂
Thanks for helping a girl out. I'll try not to bother y'all with too many questions. ❤️

Using the language metaphor I invoked earlier, I found that even after two and a half decades of gaming as my primary hobby, Genshin was speaking at least a dialect of game language that was not mutually intelligible with what I had played before. This is despite being mainly a JRPGer to that point. In Genshin and other similar gachas, there are just so many interlocking systems. Without clear and especially concise (never Hoyo’s strong suit…) explanations, the necessity of “fuck around and find out” can be off putting to all but the most patient and or determined players. Hang in there. If you’re at least enjoying the world and the premise, be patient with yourself and don’t be afraid to experiment and break things. That I think is the fastest path to proficiency
Go into quest menu and you should be able to find kaeya's story quest (porate treasure) and 2 more quests to gain enough xp for adventure rank.
Also go into Mondstat city, you will see many blue exclamation marks on the map, all of them are world quests, do them to gain more adventure rank.
When you reach rank 10 the next archon quest will be available. Search the blue exclamation marks for more world quests around the map, the faster you climb the adventure rank, the more archon quests will be available to you.
Don't worry adventure rank is easy to climb until ar 50 until when every content will be available to you.
Chests in Mondstadt and Liyue aren’t very rewarding and mostly boring.
Inazuma and later on have some difficult puzzles great design and are rewarding too.
I would say that you should follow the main quest first and explore in the meanwhile or just walk around.
The fun thing in Genshin is that each element has its own strength, and one may play with any character they like if they properly level them up along with good artifacts (though some characters are naturally better than others).
If you happen to be on the NA server, my UID is 603037608, if you wanna add me.
U could also do the world quest on the Namless Island far on the sea u can see from Starsnatch cliff.
I tho would recommend going with the tutorial missions first better yet complete the Mondstadt Archon quests first that will introduce u to the world of teyvat in a very organic way then u decide what to do complete all the exploration in Mondstadt or begin ur journey to the second nation Liyue.
Genshin is very lore heavy game so take ur time it's a slow burn at first.
Oh and BTW there is a gadget called Treasure Compass u get after completing certain Reputation quest from **Hertha.** Once u get this gadget exploration and treasure hunting becomes very easy.
One other thing u could try to do is collect all the "oculus" in Mondstadt ( look it up on youtube ) they help in increasing ur stamina.
Unlike other rpgs, Genshin Impact uses gacha-style leveling, using consumable items to level your characters and their weapons.
The XP you get from killing monsters and doing quests does *not* scale and will stop being sufficient for your character very, very, very quickly. Level up your people!
if at some point you find fighting difficult, equip the characters with artifacts that you found from the chests, find things that are ATK if you have, if not yet then anything helps, and use 2 set or 4 set, maybe upgrade them a little bit. i found that when starting out, kaeya is really great carry so maybe focus on upgrading him if you want.
i personally advise holding out from gacha until you understand what you want, the free starting chars are enough to complete the early quests. maybe just do the noelle 8x wish banner to get the guaranteed noelle if you need shields. put noelle on DEF artifact stat, she helped me a lot back then. i'd do kaeya, lisa, anemo traveler/amber, noelle. amber pretty much sucks but you do need pyro and some bow aim for things in the world.
So for now just follow the story.
Too much effort for that? Not sure this game is the best for ya, it does take a good amount of effort to get going.
lol.
Another thing is that recommended levels aren't very strict. As long as your characters have decent weapons, artifacts, etc, you will be able to clear it while being slightly under leveled.
Also see that you're an IN player! Chests in genshin are more hidden, they require you to solve minor puzzles to appear or defeat enemies (in the wild). It could take some time to develop an eye for finding puzzles but you'll get it in no time.
Enjoy your new journey! c:
