i just finished durins story quest and just for a smidge of my background i havent played seriously since sumeru and durin completely reawoke my interest in the game so i have grinded for him and got him! since getting him ive only rlly learned abt him in bits and pieces with friendship and stuff and organically through other story quests.
finally decided last week to start his story quest and for many reasons i hope everyone writing at genshin is actually okay and healthy and not being tortured for hours on end like their writing seems to imply. there . IS A LOT WRONG
! OKAY! ive enjoyed genshin story so much in the past and have been tremendously moved and touched by it before (caribert changed my life bruh the eng va was INSANE) SO im not trying to hate as a whole but jesus fuck.
dont even want to get into it all but at the very end in the final act when durin is talking to M and everything is explained for us for the 1000th millionth time because genshin fanbase is too stupid for them to not spell everything out explicitly ANYWAY when M is talking to durin and she says the word mother explicitly and leads straight into "I have been dead for a long time" idk i was so immersed and was feeling genuinely emotional by her heartfelt admission like even though we dont really see it its clearly stated she spent her entire life writing for this boy, her CHILD. come ON. i was getting teary eyed.
but cut to durin- THE CHARACTER AND ONLY REASON IM PLAYING GENSHIN AT ALL ANYMORE- he responds like a third party and he is not the one experiencing and feeling what has happened TO HIM and instead only narrating it so i am just completely torn from the story emotionally. not only that it feels so disingenuous to the character study we have just so clearly walked through like what are we doing why are we making these egregious mistakes when genshin has displayed such high level writing before ik teams change and such but this is NUTS and pure LAZINESS after 5 days of TIME LOCKED BS!!! I WAS FINALLY FEELING A TINY BIT OF INTEREST IN THE STORY AND U RUINED EVEN THAT!! Do better¡!!!!!!!!!

the entire point was about Durin "escaping" her writing.
Pretty sure his quest is universally loved from everything I have seen until this insane rant.
A story about a writer "mother" that loved her creation "child" so much she spent her whole life writing books so that an AI pen can keep writing and his story can go on forever.
Only to realize its not possible and instead setup this whole thing so that hopefully her creation "child" can take up the pen himself and write "live" his own life to become an actual real person not bound by the narrative "fate"
