How do you even level up your characters after AR35?
For context, I’m new to this game and I’ve just ascended from AR35, and currently on AR39. After doing some research, I learned that my characters should be on level 70 above, since I’m now on AR39 and Inazuma archon.
Currently, my main team’s characters are all on level 60, while my main dps is on level 65.
How do I even match with the enemies in the upcoming story quests, considering that my team doesn’t deal damage that much? And how can I even level up my teammates, when it’s really hard to collect xp books? 😭😭 (I’m sorry, I’m really new to this game).

Also use Resin to Farm mora or exp books If you run Short on these and cant lvl your characters
Other than that...dont Rush Things take your time
I'll try farming mora when I get back on the game. In terms of the exp books, whenever I do the blue ley line, it just drops the blue exp books and not the purple ones. I learned that this is because you need to be on AR45 to be guaranteed with the purple exp books. TBH, the blue exp books doesn't even do that much leveling up to characters, and I'll be just wasting my resin, considering that we're only given 200 😭
Be sure to take advantage of patches that have "ley line overflow" events which double your ley line loot for every resin spend on ley lines 3 times a day for a period of time.
It might seem like a waste to farm books over things like artifacts at first but it's worth it in the end, especially since characters unlock a new passive at level 70 ascension. I've been playing since 2 weeks after launch and I still regularly farm ley lines for Mora and books alike.
One problem though… I’m out of resin and I don’t know what to do. I’m planning on doing some world quests later, since my resin is yet to fill up until tomorrow.
But to be more on topic, you need mora and character books to level up.
Some ways to get these:
* If you have a teapot, you can get mora/resin/books there
* If you have extra resin, you can do ley lines for mora/resin. There are two types of Ley Lines, so pay attention to which one you use.
* Make sure to do all events, as these items are all given away there.
When you finally level up your character, then you need to level up their talents, which you will need even more resin and mora to get talent book.
It's a grind, so make sure you really want to upgrade the character you are using and not just blowing your resources away.
\- I actually just got the teapot that you've mentioned and I don't really get its purpose, but I'll do more research about this.
\- Is it ok though to waste all of my resin just to get exp books? Especially that I can only get the blue ones, since I'm still on AR39?
\- I'm actually interested in leveling up my Tighnari, since he's the only 5 star I got at the moment, and I learned that some players like him because he gets stronger as you level him up.
Thank you so much for this!! ✨
currently you don’t have to worry about sets or sub stats, just equip and level up whatever you have. of the 5 artifact slots, 2 of them, Feather and Flower, are always going to be hp and attack. The other three, I would say “for now” look for atk% on all of them if you are not sure what to do. If you find some that has “Dendro damage” on it, pick that over attack( it is only on goblet slot) for Tighnari. If you have a crit rate ( not damage) on the main stat of headgear slot pick that, otherwise stick with attack percent.
dont farm artifacts, just use what you have.
There is going to be some loss in artifact xp and mora when recycling, but in the grand scheme of things it really doesn’t matter. Well as long as you don’t do it for too many characters.
Also, Tig will serve you well, especially early game. as you go along, you'll get more and more resources for the new characters you'll get along the way.
Resources can start to feel like they're rather lacking and they'll end up only costing more (like Mora and XP books I mean) the higher the upgrades are which means it will take more Resin and therefore, more time. But there's no rush and it's meant to take a little while but then after a good bit, you'll very rarely have this problem ever again.
Especially once you have one team solidly built up to handle overworld content, you'll be able to rely on them for most things while you raise other characters
I'll take note of this. Thank you so much!! ✨
Except Genshin is not a normal RPG. It's a gacha game.
In gacha games, leveling up is always real time gated through an energy mechanic, in Genshin's case, resin.
You're expected to use your daily resin regen to farm for exp books (and mora), via ley lines - blue circles on the map for exp, yellow circles for mora.
The grind gets pretty miserable for a while, until you've more or less finished building out all the characters you need.
If you're struggling to deal damage, then maybe you aren't using a proper team and/or elemental reactions? Like how I thought Noelle was the best until I assembled a hyperbloom squad that took only seconds what Noelle bonks for more than two minutes or more.
\- DPS: Tighnari
\- Sub DPS: Hydro traveler
\- Support: Lisa
\- Gaming (I don't really know what his role is, since I don't know how to build a proper team)
I'm actually thinking of leveling up my Xiangling (to replace Gaming) and Fischl (to replace Lisa), since I learned that they're good. But I don't even know if it's worth it at this point or if I should, since I'm already on AR39. But for reference, here's my previous post about [My other characters](https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact/comments/1q6cfid/how_to_level_up_my_new_characters_in_world_level_3/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), if you would like to take a look.
i would also replace hydro traveler for barbara (or xingqiu if you have him) for sustain and off-field hydro since hydro traveler is kinda bad wfor application (and that matters a lot early on imo)
Don’t worry about artifact farming until AR45.
And don’t be afraid to ask for help with bosses and domains, there are lots of high level players who enjoy helping lower level players.
In terms of the artifacts, Im just using the recommended ones that the game provides and I just level them up accordingly.
Thank you for this ✨
Edit: Im using the ones with green labels above the characters on the first picture
Tighnaro is known for quicken and aggravate. You need to upgrade fischl. Lisa can add off field electro but only with burst with heavy energy cost and early game your er rate is prob bad. Fischl has her crow which is an elemental attack way more consistent. Her burst is then used to extend said crow time. You will use tighnari as your main on fielder. Then you need a healer.barbara is your only healer. However hydro can react with your dendeo and ruin your reactions. You will end up doing hyper bloom sometimes which tighnari sucks at. So your aggravate team is out of a healer for now. If you get yapyao that's a common healer. Or if you get far enough in the same collei is free with a modest heal to replace traveler here
For your 4nswirch traveller to dendro. Make a dendro electro team.
Then you can form a vaporize team separately with Barbara xiangling hydro traveler and someone else prob gaming for now. Gaming is your main dps. Xiangling is your sub dps
If you could help me out, heres my other characters [other characters](https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact/comments/1q6cfid/how_to_level_up_my_new_characters_in_world_level_3/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button). The ones that have green labels above them on the first pic is the current team Im using.
Do NOT be tempted by the new ones coming out, for me, there's only 2 that I'd prioritize. The first one is Zhongli, you only need to give him a 3 star weapon, the Black Tassel and get his HP as high as you can. With this, your team is now essentially unkillable for a massive portion of the game. Your DPS can be shit but very few enemies/bosses can actually kill you now. I've benched mine quite some time ago because he just made the game not fun and my other DPS 5 stars were doing enough damage that I didn't need him. I could not imagine having to fight the Raiden Shogun boss or Azhdaha without him. I would have quit the game if I didn't have Zhongli back in the day.
The second one is Chasca. I would have KILLED for Chasca back in the day. However... She NEEDS to be C2 and maybe even her R1 and possibly have Xilonen with her but I wouldn't say Xilonen is super necessary, it'd just help a lot. That being said, having her seems kind of tricky, since I'm not a new player, I don't know how feasible it is to get her and go to her ascension/artifact domains for you. If you had a C2R1 Chasca though, you really don't have to worry about anything else. She will literally kill everything by herself. She doesn't need any of your other characters to be leveled or even be alive. Even though I have a prime Mavuika team and am building a Nod Krai team right now, my Chasca is still my daily driver because she's just so damn versatile and plus, she flies and can do so for quite some time which is incredible for getting around places and many enemies can't even hit her since she's in the air.
Eula was my first 5 star DPS who pretty much helped me break out from my starter 4 stars and Zhongli was the one who helped me actually progress since now my Eula didn't have to worry about getting killed. All in all, get yourself a Zhongli ASAP.
The game was designed to give players a lot more time to explore before progressing in the main story. Understandable that a new player who went through the story in a much shorter timeframe will end up underleveled.
Edit: any suggestions on what should I do while my resin is filling up?
For your dendro "spread" dps Tighnari, it would be best to team him with an electro off-field dps like Lisa or Fischl. Xiangling is an excellent off-field pyro "vaporize" dps when teamed with hydro dps like Xingqiu. Gaming is the most powerful 4-star pyro "melt" dps if properly built. Try team him with Rosaria.
Genshin is fun, either playing for the meta or the story. Just play at your own pace.
I got two questions though:
1. What do you do whenever you used all of your resin?
2. This is primogems-connected and I didn't want to create a new discussion about this for now, but do you know when will certain characters come back in banners? I just saw some Flins and Raiden highlights and I really like to pull them in the future (even though Im broke in primo) 😂
2. We all have NO idea. Ofc there are speculations. Archons like Raiden usually get a rerun every year, which is in about 2 months. New released character like Flins usually get the first rerun in about 4-5 patches away, which would be 3-4 months later.
