Of the top of my head, the ones that were replaced due to various reasons are (in the EN version): Paimon, Keqing, Candace, Charlotte and the CN VA for Oz.
Elysium_Chronicle2026-01-10 10:38
Tighnari was the first recast, as a result of actor misconduct.
Kinich was the recast that precipitated the recasts of Paimon, Keqing, Sucrose, and possibly Candace (not sure if Shara Kirby was actually part of that bandwagon, or if she just chose that timeframe to have her own blow-up. I tried to avoid as much of that drama as possible).
I believe Nicole was recast, but that's possibly because she had such a minor role before that the OG was just a temp.
Nelogenazea2026-01-10 11:12
Ah, true, forgot the most important recasts, thanks for adding to it.
iesous232026-01-10 11:32
I always find it funny that Shara was outraged at a male not in america being cast for Kinich but she was radio silent on all the women in britain.
Didnt realise EN voicework was exclusive to america

She specifically went for Japan too when she denigrated him saying oh so they’re “recording Eng dub in Japan now” as if you can’t find good Eng speakers around asia

Essentially there was drama surrounding the SAG-AFTRA strike happening due to AI concerns. Long story relatively short:
Genshin was struck too (or so the players were led to believe) but once the Kinich VA (who had only voiced the character for a single patch) was replaced, several of the older VAs (Paimon, Keqing) lashed out publicly on the new VA, indirectly leading to exposing the fact that, because mihoyo is not an American company and thus not a SAG union project, there was never a strike on Genshin in the first place, they were just refusing to work in an attempt by SAG to force Genshin to become a union project. Quickly, public sentiment turned against the voice actors and SAG, so the matter was then relatively quickly settled. Now a lot of non-American VAs have started replacing American VAs that were let go or quit their roles.
If you got like 90 minutes to spend on it, mujin has a good summary of the whole fiasco: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3TzYBRzj2U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3TzYBRzj2U)

Yeah, it was pointed out that China already has relatively good AI protection in place. But the majority of the playerbase were, as I said, led to believe it was part of the SAG-AFTRA strike and since "AI bad", nobody really questioned it.
I am not at all an expert on the matter and I would again refer you to the video, but my basic understanding is that if a VA signs with SAG, they ostensibly can only work for SAG projects. So a lot of the SAG VAs on Genshin were more or less violating their SAG contracts, which SAG tolerated to a degree, but were then attempting to piggyback on the major strike in order to get non-SAG projects to bow to their demands to also become SAG projects.
Again, not an expert, but essentially it was an attempted powerplay by SAG to increase their influence that blew up in their faces.

some of them had genuine concerns about AI, whether naive, misplaced or justified. Others just wanted them to flip so they could either join the union themselves, or have their work count towards qualifying for health insurance, so they piled on.
You can tell that Genshin threatening to go AI was never a real fear. Because two of SAG AFTRA's most vocal mouth pieces, Khoi Dao and Joe Zieja went back to work once the strike is over (Joe returned even before the strike was over), so it couldn't have been that serious if even they thought it was safe to work for hoyo again. Khoi Dao said that working non union jobs would lead the VO industry being gone in 5 years due to no AI protections. Then he went back to working non union jobs again. So is he complicit in killing the VO industry in 5 years time?

The Japan comment was just a weird comment that had no relevance. You can do dubs overseas and have the director be in the US.

i always find it funny that the outrage over shara has a lot of racial undertones…
iesous232026-01-13 09:27
Does it? Can't say I've noticed that myself
Final-Ship-12242026-01-16 01:26
I don’t think these fans notice a lot of things that don’t align with their game.

I believe some NPCs were recast during the strike. In fact I know some were. During the Nahida birthday event, if you used Nahida's skill to read their thoughts, the thoughts were voiced by a different actor. One of them was originally played by Cia Court (Himeko in HSR) who got recast.
As for Kinich, I feel bad for Jacob being made an example of. But it rooted out some bad apples so it was overall worth it.
Intelligent_Fox_52552026-01-13 04:20
Yep, because Jacob isn’t the bad apple for acting like he did…
Repulsive-Angle-14562026-01-15 18:33
It rooted out paimons va and that was enough . Sadly we lost Rachel's Stelle :(
Suspicious_Sea66862026-01-13 04:15
fighting for rights is apparently “blowing up”
Nelogenazea2026-01-13 09:46
There never was a strike for AI protection from the Genshin VAs. It was just an attempt to force it to become a SAG project that failed spectacularly.
mr_beanoz2026-01-10 11:13
Ifa in JP (though the first VA only voiced the character as an NPC)

Tighnari
Kinich

that's honestly a pretty small list considering everything that happened and all of those absences.

"Loud minority" and all that. It was truly a minority of VAs causing problems. And they were loud as fuck.
Fast_Ingenuity68192026-01-13 04:13
I know, Jacob Takanashi and them really caused a lot of problems for the game…
