Im currently thinking about getting Genshin
So ive never played Genshin since i was never interested but im bored rn and want To Play a new game. It seems the opinion on this Game is very divided, some say its good, others say its dogshit. So ive been wondering how its been Holding Up in 2026? Is It Worth starting? I dont wanna sweat my entire Life into the Game i Just want To Play Casual. Also another Thing, ive been playing some zzz recently and i was wondering how the pull system works. Can i only pull for Characters when their Banners are on or am i free To pull for them at any time? Since waiting Like 6 months for a character To Return is a huge Red flag for me.

I don't know how it works in ZZZ but
> Can i only pull for Characters when their Banners are
Yes. Sometimes you get specific banner events with a bunch of characters, or a free selector. But otherwise you have to wait for specific banners.
The way Genshin banners work is that if you don't get a rate-up character on the first try (50/50 coinflip), next you get a character it's guaranteed to be the rate-up one, and this also carries over across banners.
I go for every *new* 5-star character, and only rarely go for cons(which are character specific upgrades) and weapons. There are times I spend only 10 bucks a patch (A patch is 6 weeks long) and there are times where I spend up to 300 bucks a patch. It all boils down to your luck and how the banners are set up.
If you are not going to go for every literal new character, then this cost will decrease dramatically. A common thing people do is Welkin+BP, which means you only buy the battle pass and Welkin(Welkin gives you pulling resources for logging in each day). This is enough for a lot of people who don't want every literal new character because you just save those resources. Remember though, luck plays a huge factor. You may have to dip for extra pulls on some patches, and others you get lucky and have enough for another character.
Also, the game says it can cost up to 475.2$ to pull a character. While it's *Technically* possible, it's practically impossible, because it is a 1 and 10 trillion chance of getting that unlucky.
1. Do u like a complex story
2. Do u like complex character mechanics
3. Do u like extremely good music
If so you'll fall in love with this game very fast I myself play it for it's complex yet rich story and it's osts.
Couldnt care less what others think its a game.
With Genshin compared to other Gachas its alot slower in the beginning amd takes time to accumulate things. The pity system works on 90 for full pity and 75 for soft for a Limited character (but thats impossible due to gaining more pulls via starglitter from said pulling) its a 50/50 and if you lose you are guarenteed a limited 5 star whenever that happens.
Character returns I have no idea
Personally Genshin is better than HSR and has things that are better and worse than ZZZ.
I do like the aesthetics alot more and open world exploration after the inital growing pains phase. Combat is pretty good, and what sold me on was using different elementals to proc reactions and really wacky team comps.
If youre playing casually the game isnt going anywhere everyone can choose whatever pace they feel like.
The game is absolutely playable to its very core without spending a single cent, or even a single free pulls. The vast open world, exploration, and basically everything is available. Pulling is only kind of required if you want to clear the end games (which is to get more pulls).
And if Genshin is worth or not, no one can answer that for you. Some people love the story and lore, some people love exploring the world, some people just like to collect characters they find cute. If you mean by playing casual, you don't want to stress over meta characters, as long as you only care about playing the story mode and not endgame content, you're fine on that, but you'll still most likely feel stressed by Genshin's (and gachas in general) trying to limit how much you can play each day so that you come back every single day.
People saying the game is dogshit either have a fundamental bias against gacha games, or they just have an agenda.
A new account will have more than enough to do and more than enough farmable summon currency to get at least 1 of the two if you play a lot (or cash play), older accounts (which have already finished old permanent content) usually can get roughly enough primos for 1 5\* every month/month and a half, which may be the featured one...but sometimes you get unlucky and you get a standard banner 5\* instead), though this does depend a bit on how lucky your account is (tough if you are forced to 80 pulls each banner). x.x
Of course this all depends on how much you play. If you play the minimum then it's hard to pull characters as often.
Plus, its gacha system is actually quite similar to ZZZ's .
Also, it's free-to-play to start, so you can always just try it out and see if you like it.
I play since release, and was able to pull all chars so far (except last patch) with the 5usd monthly subscription, with occasional extra spendings (I'd say in total 300usd on top of the monthly). This means it cost me in total 620 usd so far in 5.25 years, or around 120usd per year. In addition, I also have 2 extra constellations and 2 weapon banners I pulled for.
I got almost every possible free currency since release that the game offered. And a little bit above average luck I'd say. That's why I'd say it was relatively "cheap" for me.
As for if it's worth it... the game only got better over the years. The first 2 areas feel very simplistic, gameplay-wise and visually, compared to the newer regions. For me also, the music, story and lore are the things that keep me continue playing. If they weren't good and if I wasn't invested in the story, I'd most likely have stopped.
However, the intentionally "bad design" elements that exist in the game, like the currency system that replenishes over time that you waste on randomized armor... that sucks so much. It's intentionally designed that way go get out more from your pockets by making you play longer (or pay).
What I'd suggest is to just stay f2p. You should be able to get half the characters (must be around 50-60 out of 100-120 by now) just by playing normally, which is more than enough. Just pull the ones you like and don't try to get them all. Although still viable, some have been kind of powercrept anyways. And don't EVER pull for weapons as f2p.
While I said 620usd, that's not really the actual money I spent here. I won a lot of google play cards, and thanks to these 5sec surveys from google opinions and play points, and the currency conversion rate of my country, I get the monthly subscription for somewhere around 2 - 4 usd instead. So the "actual" money I spent was maybe max 250-300usd... which is an acceptable amount to spend over 5 years imo.
Your flag isn't big enough.
The longest wait so far for a character is almost 2 years.
Genshin is a typical gacha game at it's core with a generic Ubisoft open world layered on top, minus the actually interesting mobility options.
The story is basically a visual novel, which isn't even voiced if there's no gacha character involved. There is a lot of it though. Depending on how "casual" you are, the story could potentially last quite a while.
Don't expect to get a ton of characters playing like that though. Actually getting the slot machine tokens to pull for characters with takes daily logins and grind, and engaging with all of the limited time content.
