I started 5.0 (Natlan) and my first 100%... is Dragonspine. I did not follow a guide at first until I'm down to the last few Crimson Agate. I would run along the borders using the compass to check if I miss a chest

True 100% is something that I likely won't aim for unless they update the compasses or the interactive map becomes able to detect only the ones you are missing. Otherwise, I am content to just getting the visible 100% and making sure I've done all the hidden quests.

It can detect the chests you're missing though?? You click on the icon and there's a button there that fades the icon a bit, indicating you already collected the thing in that spot.

This is a manual process though isnt it? Meaning you would have to manually check off each chest that you have already collected by going to that spot and verifying if you have collected it. I dont mind clicking the compass to search for chests but checking off every chest 1 by 1 would be too much for me.

Firstly, I like to explore blindly to start. Makes the regions feel more adventurous. I dont start looking things up till I'm hunting down the last 5-10% or so.
Its also a bit bothersome to check chests off when I am playing on mobile versus PC because you get disconnected switching between screens. But that isnt the only issue. The other issue is going through all the 1000s of chest I've already collected in the regions I've already explored. It would take a really significant amount of time to figure out and check off the ones I've collected versus the ones I'm missing.
For instance, there are 76 Aranara in the rainforest of Sumeru. I've collected close to 60 of them but it took a couple of hours for me to retrace my steps at each location and check off the ones I had already found. Its just a big time investment for a small payoff. And sucks the fun out of the game for me to do on such a large scale for chests. If the interactive map could detect and remove the chests I've already collected then I would use it more.

I remember. Back when dehya was about to release I used the interactive map to 100% all of Inazuma and Enkanomiya, not missing a single interactible that gave primos or mora, saving up about 140 summons over the course of a patch. Then The Incident occured and I haven't played Genshin since until Laumas release
