She makes her work when she doesn't want to and maybe a little laziness thrown in
dearmusic2026-01-11 04:04
Mavuika is technically her boss, but she doesn't want to do the difficult and annoying work that Mavuika has lined up for her. She also probably doesn't get paid well for her work.
Atque123456782026-01-11 04:06
"you guys get paid?"
callmejamesx2026-01-11 04:57
mavuika commisions the work as shown in the anecdote and in xilonen's voice lines, so she's just a regular client
She probably does get paid well, but that just leaves less excuse for xilonen to get out of working. If someone is willing to pay you the right amount or even extra, but the tasks are all crazy and difficult you probably aren't worried about the money part, all of mavuika's asks are stuff that's like new "ideas" that's not really been done before by other artisans.
Also mavuika keep asking to add more features to stuff like her bike, which is already difficult to build
If Mavuika is just a normal client, Xilonen can just say no.
But we all know that this client is not just any client, saying no to an archon, especially one that considers her a friend, is quite difficult.
I say it feels more like a boss rather than just any normal client.
callmejamesx2026-01-11 05:08
she can definitely say no if there is a valid reason, but mavuika also "works" to find the solution to said problems
below is from mavuika's flamestrider lore
But Mavuika had come with much more than just a request. She brought also ideas with which to solve the problems involved — long had she been scouring Natlan for all manner of strangely-shaped Source Mechanisms as yet uncorrupted by the Abyss, along with various design blueprints of unknown provenance.
In the distant past, the ancient dragons too had tried to fight against the Abyss. Their methods were exceptionally brutal, and as a result, they had built many a mighty device that relied on raw power to achieve victory. As for the blueprints, those Mavuika had copied by hand and brought with her.
If the secrets behind the schematics could be unlocked, and the pre-existing devices reverse-engineered, and the useful parts disassembled before being recombined...
Having considered things up to this point, Xilonen looked up at Mavuika's smiling face, and knew she no longer had any reason to refuse, nor did she want to — what artisan would willingly miss out on making such a creation?
dearmusic2026-01-11 05:15
Ok so Mavuika is not an ordinary client, she's a client that wants to save the world due to her duty as the archon. I agree, yes.
Also that last part where Xilonen willingly participate in the creation really doesn't give her much excuse to back out huh... She willingly put herself in to the project after all. Pretty much asking for it.
swagl0rd420dstep2026-01-11 05:24
xilonen is still a craftsmen, the requests are difficult but they are also in unexplored territory + the client provides you with assistance for your problems.
It's similar to kaveh, the client gives you one of a kind request, provide you resources and xilonen similarly excited to do it.
It's just that usually these type of requests are hard and tiring to work with, maybe you build a few of these over your lifetime. But imagine the person comes to you every few months with more and more stuff of similar difficulty. it will get tiring even if you like to work on it, if there was more downtime it would be fair to undertake it more.
dearmusic2026-01-11 05:28
Yeah... I can see that happening...
Like someone asking a friend to build them a pc, and that friend became their life time tech support...
Dang, that sounds so annoying...
swagl0rd420dstep2026-01-11 05:34
it's not really tech support, it's more like
Hey I will give you the chance to build latest AI machine that has never been done before, here is the money, the latest technology, and resources.
You eventually finish it and your proud of having accomplished it, then next month the same friend goes, hey lets build this brand new idea, here is the resources/money/etc again.
You might want to build the new thing, but you are already tired from just finishing the first project, you like the work and the chance to do it but not to the point of overworking yourself to keep challenging newer and newer things.
dearmusic2026-01-11 05:38
But... Isn't that just what having a job means? You finished a challenging project and the next project comes, just like any software developer position.
Maybe Xilonen is just lazy?
swagl0rd420dstep2026-01-11 05:49
Xilonen is lazy but it's not the same, I am a software developer, I wouldn't say most projects are really challenging, they are just "here is requirements from the client and how they want it", most software developers are not building something that's crazy and out of this world, we mostly just use existing technology to match what the client needs and maintaining it for them if theres any problems.
What xilonen is building is more akin to the "next big thing",
for example kaveh built Palace of Alcazarzaray, that's a great creation but most of his jobs are fairly normal architecture, not some grand architecture all the time, their day to day jobs are mostly just standard buildings that you can find anywhere.
dearmusic2026-01-11 05:53
Haha, we work at very different companies then.
Good to know a fellow software developer.
Guess gotta give Xilonen some kudos for doing all that alone without a team.
PantheraAuroris2026-01-11 05:38
Mavuika gives her preposterously difficult engineering jobs and doesn't understand how hard they are. She just thinks Xilonen is omniscient about engineering and can do anything. So Xilonen wrings her brain out to get it done, then Mav plays it off by not respecting how hard it was to do the thing, such as by immediately driving off on the insane bike and breaking parts of it because she's a thrill seeker.
Xilonen feels under-appreciated and disrespected. As an engineer, I totally get this. It sucks hard for someone to be like "meh that was trivial for you, right?" when you stayed up late for a week straight doing it.
jotenha12026-01-11 07:37
All that plus the fact that Xilonen is also a Cat-woman, and most of the time we see her either napping, sleeping, waking up or looking for somewhere to rest. Regular work is already tiring enough, now imagine Mavuika throwing 10 extra ideas and suggestions she had overnight
