Did you link your account to an email? Or you only played with the psn?

Also check if you are login to the same server region, ps5 don't let you select a region but pc does let you select.

i went into my ps5 genshins in game account center and connected an email and username, but if i sign in using that same email on my computer i just get the traveler gender selection again, and there's no option available in the in game account center to add a password (which i'm prompted with a message that i don't have when trying to log in using the username)

Create a Hoyoverse account, link it to your playstation account.

When you first start up the game on Playstation, if you don’t tell it then that you have a hoyoverse account you want it to use, the game just makes a Hoyoverse account you don’t see that is connected to your PSN but is _not_ actually your PSN (which is why the credentials you tried to use on your computer started a new game for you instead).

on my ps5 genshin account in user center, i have a username and email connected, but there's no option for adding a password. and when i log in through email on my computer it's just a new account again. but if i log in using the username with what i assumed the password would be i'm prompted with a message about not having a password connected and needing to make one.

Okay, so if you log into the official hoyoverse website (account.hoyoverse.com) with the email that's connected in your ps5 user center...in the "link account" section *there* does it show your PS5 account? Just to make sure everything is the same on both sides?
