Party suggestions? early game
I’m pretty new to Genshin, so I know I should focus on having fun and playing through the quests. Lately though, I’ve been struggling to stay focused during them and committing to long quest lines. I also went down a bit of a YouTube rabbit hole with lore and gameplay, and it’s hard not to compare myself to streamers who have insane rosters and fully built teams. I know that’s not realistic for me, especially since I don’t want to spend money on wishes.
I don’t really understand how people progress so far without paying, so any perspective on that would help too.
Right now my main team is:
* Razor
* Kaeya
* Bennett
* Fischl
Been hitting that cryo-electro super conduct but maybe some other elemental reactions would be more favorable. Razor is my main on field but he's starting to feel soooo clunky
Sometimes I swap Fischl for Xiangling, and in Spiral Abyss I often use Sucrose for Swirl. I’ve started focusing more on building Bennett and Xiangling because I’ve noticed how relevant they stay in late-game content.
My main concern is not wanting to waste materials on characters that won’t be useful later. I know people say “just play who you like,” but I honestly haven’t found a character I *love* playing yet, so efficiency matters more to me right now (my type A personality is really coming out here).
Given my current setup, I’d really appreciate any tips on:
* Who is worth investing in long-term
* How to progress as a free-to-play player
* And whether my current teams make sense or could be improved

You don't need any further investment on these characters, you should be very close to getting your first limited 5\* so you can pivot to your endgame teams soon. But you can just invest levels and Q talent levels into Bennett stress-free since you will 100% use him at some point in endgame.
at the risk of sounding like a massive newbie: how do you know I'm close to getting my first limited 5\*?
Pyro heavy is fine because Razor balances it out, electro is useful against every elemental shield, although not really super effective against most of them. The reason you run pure pyro-electro is because Chev's ascension 1 passive requires you to do that to activate, and it is an extremely useful passive.
Good to know about Chevreuse - thanks!
If you do have trouble clearing higher level enemies, it is not because you haven't "built your units enough", it means you are doing something else fundamentally wrong.
The 5\* food (adeptus temptation) also provides massive bonuses for that AR. Keep making and eating them throughout your gameplay.
Exile pieces and Energy Recharge sands on Bennett & Xiangling will also be very useful
About artifacts: You will find a ton of 4\* artifacts just opening chests and killing enemies, you don't farm them via domains like you will farm 5\* artifacts. They also are not resource intensive, once you level an artifact you can feed it to another one and it will give 80% of its XP value to that artifact with minimal mora spending. So you can just make artifacts cannibalize each other and spend very little.
Maxxing a 4\* feather should be your priority since it gives a big flat ATK boost.
Okay good to know, I'll get right on that. Thanks so much for your advice appreciate it
