Why do u think Hoyoverse makes it such a hassle to change the traveler's element, instead of adding something simple like this?
For example, pyro traveler is useful for the Natlan weekly boss while geo traveler was useful this SO. Just lemme change his element on the go instead of needing to resonate with a statue and going through 2-3 loading screens.
Commentaires
For example I could use the traveler in IT to fill a slot but didn't change his element so I'm gonna need to leave the IT lobby and TP to statue, loading screen, TP back to IT lobby and have another loading screen.
Want to do Nathan boss but forgot to activate pyro mc, repeat the process. This SO I needed geo MC to cheese the bat boss, again, needed to TP and watch the statue animations.
At this point the manikin in Wonderland has more customizability than our mc.
1. Teleporting to Imaginarium Theatre
2. Starting team setup
3. \*swearing in Teyvatian\*
4. Teleporting to corresponding Statue of Seven
5. Changing to team with traveler
6. Resonance with statue
7. Changing team back
8. Repeat step 1
9. Repeat step 2
10. Proceeding with IT
This will be such a good and desired QoL
4. Teleport to statue of seven
5. Open the statue dialogue
6. Remember that the traveller has to be in the active party, for some reason
7. Change teams
9. You can't change traveller's element because THEY HAVE TO BE THE ACTIVE FUCKING CHARACTER FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
10. Switch to Traveller
11. Open statue dialogue again
12. Change elements
11: Open statue dialogue again
12. Accidentally press either the healing or offering buttons cause you SUDDENLY HAVE FAT FINGERS
13. Exit wrong button choice AND WASTE YOUR F U C K I N G T I M E because apparently going back ONE WHOLE MENU OPTION IS IMPOSSIBLE
14. Change Elements
When will we get that last step?
Knowing Hoyo, probably never.
I don’t even think it’d be particularly hard to do too. Since there’s only ever one active character that’s on field, just letting us add more than one traveler to the team gets us most of the way there. The only part where it’d be weird is the team selection screen but I doubt that’s hard to redesign.
They need a line of code to link it to the traveler swapping elements which already exists.
A few more to implement it to the overworld.
They imput the test. An error occurred because they forgot that 2 instances can't exist. Simple, just delay the instances.
They spend 3 hours making it work. So, they test it in the game. Then suddenly, geo traveler is using hydro traveler's burst animation?
They go back, rinse repeat for a few more days. It looks fine now. They release it to the public.
Then, they realize, traveler's outfit isnt matching to the corsponding element for whatever reason in the character swap menu. So they need to go, for a few more hours to fix it.
They think its all fixed now, and it should work properly.
Its just tedious as hell. Takes lots of time as well. It could take weeks or months to make it properly function.
Wow, everything must be spaghetti code. Every single change must pop a bug somewhere else.
It's almost as if non-Statue triggers of Traveler changing their elements don't already exist in the game with no reported issues.
There are aspects that are, but elements changing and character design aspects are not the same. And can cause issues when implementing changes.
Just look at the machine gun yelan from a few patches ago. That was clearly an unexpected bug from a completely unrelated change.
Coding requires few changes, then test. Rinse repeat. Otherwise, I would be absolutely wondering the hell off how hoyo made games if their programmers didn't do it this way.
Ah, there we fucking go.
"You have no idea what the actual situation looks like so you are just assuming things" is the point that you will never properly acknowledge
You are the one here assuming things.
Unfortunately people will try to say you’re wrong. People who never wrote code before are like that, they think everything is easy.
“Just press this button and magically everything works” they say.
This game has so many quirks linked to traveler like claiming daily commissions that I’m sure anything traveler related must be hell to change.
"Sir, this thing can't work without breaking the whole code."
"Geez, just say you're lazy."
"Not enough people care" - Random Person Who is Not Hoyo™, ignoring all the people who do care and post about it, ignoring all the QoL functions they added to the game despite many people not caring about them, ignoring stuff like TCG still existing and getting updates, circa 2k26
Yeah, it's something they could do. Not enough people care.
Btw, snark gets you blocked
The traveler is also useful for IT, to fill a slot in the early stages and Pyro MC is very useful for the Natlan weekly boss.
I'm not saying the traveler is meta, but they do have their usefulness. There are many characters that are far less useful at this point in the game.
Traveller has been useful a grand total of once since, and for 1 fight. 1 minute across 6 months
IT is once per month, can prepare in advance if you so wish to. 1 minute/month, if you are desperate to have enough characters, otherwise just stick to Pyro anyways
Pyro been useful against a weekly boss, that nowadays dies upon been sneezed at. And will soon be useless to most players that have done it on a weekly basis
The day we get this change is the day I'll never lose a 50/50 again
I don't know.
I think they don't want us to have fun with traveller. They want us to play the new characters and that's it.
It took them 5 years to give a good kit to traveller and buff it, give a skin.
So, even gameplay wise, all characters are technically the traveler
That would make him insanely broken.
Even with shit stats and bad base kite. A 1 in all every element traveler would mean the team reactions are going to go crazy. Not including the other characters that help form a team
Atm they dont have any set or weapon that is made just for their wide range of powers.
Then again - Trailblazer has different traces for different paths, so that may not prove it. Idk.
Either way, it stays a hassle to teleport to the statue, add the traveler to the party, talk to the statue WITH the traveler (since it doesn't work if he's simply in the party) and then continue with what u were gonna do with the traveler.
as a day-1 player they have definitely changed a lot of things, and most of them are good stuff
EDIT: The enshittification section of TLMoonBear’s blog post about Hoyo’s monetization is a relevant read: https://moonbearmusings.com/lets-talk-about-how-mihoyos-monetization-works/
That's not a QoL, it's a design choice... but therein lies the problem of the average gamer not knowing the difference between the two.
The downside of that design choice is that they have vast areas of emptiness because they have to create a world X times bigger because you can move Y times faster. That doesn't get you a better world, it just gets you a bigger, more spread out world. Genshin's world is more compact, better focused and better thought out with regards to quest and object placement. They understand exploration better, they can guide the player better because there are no shortcuts to ruin things. The problem for WuWa for those of us who like walking in the game, is that it very quickly becomes tedious because it takes so long... although I am glad they didn't let you fly in Lahai-Roi, that would have been a disaster like it is in Huanglong.
Thankfully, Genshin doesn't have the bugs that WuWa has... and has had since launch. It's probably the most buggy gacha game I have played by a long way. We got a new one in Lahai-Roi where when you collected too many crates from the side of a vehicle on your bike, instead of saying "Maximum number of crates collected", it said "An error has occured, for enquiries please contact customer service". There's a constant layer of unprofessionalism with Kuro, which is quite jarring.
Like in this [image](https://imgur.com/a/6W7tjLX), they just put the chests and enemies in fixed distancies with no cohesion other than "you can see everything with one look" or smt like that. Its just too funny for me
yes we move and climb fast in there. But the stamina is still there because.... i guess???
yes we can """"infinitely""" farm echoes (artifacts), but they are twice as rng heavy for NO REASON, and we cant even use echoes to level other echoes. Building a new character is as boring as any gacha, even more so that their version of artifact recycling is T-R-A-S-H
the combat is more dynamic, but the teambuilding is restrictive af. Whats this, Star Rail?
One of the reasons why Miliastra also feels so limited
Like others said its not for lore reasons. And i cant think of any reason why they would need the traveler to be at the statue of sevens, besides maybe some minor bugs which they can easily fix.
It has also been a LONG time, it is weird they haven't implemented this, especially with traveler's new skin and buff coming next patch
I'd guess they didn't expect Traveler to be popular enough that people would actually want to play them? I mean, their statline... has room for improvement, let's just say.
or, more likely, they really are just lazy/hoarding qols
It would be nice though.
I obviously could be entirely wrong here, but is just my hypothesis, at first i though it was a lore reason and Hoyo cares to make everything inside of Genshin to be inside lore but then Teaveler uses their elements all at once in cutscenes, so... Why? I have no clue at all.
Let's remove all the teleports and movement skills too while we're at it, so we can immerse ourselfs even deeper /s.
I'm not defending them, mind you, I just think it isn't because they hate their players.
so yeah, all due to their own making
HSR MC can change paths on the team screen and even gets to keep different artifact loadouts on each path.
They just hate the traveler, I guess
Originally the traveler barely mixed elements and only did a small burst in the fight with Childe.
But then they wanted the traveler to use them more to make cutscenes cooler but havent found that "Moment" to lore wise give us the power buff to swap easily.
The next buff is clearly a step in that direction but we gotta see still.
Second, each element has a completely different playstyle and gear loadout, so even those who do use Traveler probably don’t actually have multiple element builds worth using.
Finally, even if you use Traveler and have multiple gear sets for different elements, you probably don’t switch elements more than once or twice per week. Spending an extra 30 seconds to port to a statue and resonate that isn’t that big an inconvenience.
All of these combine to make it a very low-priority change. There are plenty of other things I’d rather they spend their dev time on.
Whenever you engage with a game, you're confronted with passive content (music, animations, voicelines, dialogues etc.) and active content (opening chests, fighting, making dialogue choices etc.) What sets video games apart from a lot of other media is the presence of this active content.
A video game is a thing we engage with for entertainment, and of our own free will. Take away the pure 'feelings' it gives you, and most of a game's activity is rather pointless. You need 100 gold? You need to open a chest! But why? You could just have a menu button 'get 100 gold', or even remove the requirement of 100 gold altogether.
It's because the search for that chest and the subsequent purchase using that gold are satisfying activities that make you feel like you're 'doing something'.
A game's active content is build not just from tools, but also limitations. You cannot use a burst without enough energy. You cannot buy an item without the mora. You cannot change elements without visiting a statue.
Now, that's not to say the element change system is *good* active content. It's not. It's trivialised by the lack of limits on free teleportation. It doesn't present challenge nor does it serve immersion, as it is not accurate to the game's story. This can be contrasted with something like, say, visiting Katheryne to turn in dailies, which reaffirms your ties with the Adventurer's Guild, and ensures players visit this location and this character often.
Had teleportation not been a thing, it would have made more sense as a design decision. And as is common in Open World games, it's probably one of those choices made without teleportation in mind to begin with.
Mind you, they should absolutely change it. Preferably to something like HSR but I'd take not having to have traveler in the party at least. 💀
The day the revenue goes down, they will maybe try but that's unlikely due to sunk cost fallacy.
If the code is the issue, that isn't our excuse to make. Let the Dev team say it.
But then I thought, what if the Traveler ran out of HP? Would the whole line up die or would they have three more lives?
- traveler having a low usage rate
- of traveler users, low rate of users swapping elements frequently if at all
- idea of adding a quick switch button falls to the lowest priority task, if it's being considered for addition at all. Because why would you make a QOL feature for 0.000001% of players
