It's hard to get a gauge of reference when you're playing patches as they release, but on my alt just this past week I got through the entirety of the sumeru archon quest in about 3 days (an hour or two of gaming each day)
A few good tips I can give:
Only try to pull 5-Stars that YOU want to pull; play the game however you feel most comfortable.
Don't use your resin on artifact domains until you reach AR45; when you can do level 90 Artifact Domain(s), you are guaranteed at least one 5-Star artifact. Use your resin on weekly boss rewards, and regualr boss reward for the characters you are building.
Have fun; Genshin Impact is mainly an exploration game, no need to rush anything. Don't skip dialouge(s), and enjoy the stories.
I realize that's a lot of time and an intimidating number, too, to be fair... BUT it does mean it's doable for you to catch up.
Also, if you're into story, repeating things you've seen before always has value, as you'll probably catch things you might not have before. 🧐
Have I missed a lot of important stuff from events? I remember things like Scara having different dialogue during your meeting in Inazuma if you've played Unreconciled Stars. Stuff like that.
I want to focus on catching up with the main story and the new region for now so I can roll and build Columbina. (I'll figure out what to do with her later team-wise. XD) I'll save all the exploration stuff for when I'm caught up. Hopefully by the end of January since I can only play on weekends.
I'm probably a bit of an exception with my willingness to do that sort of research, but you could absolutely catch yourself up with a few hours of entertainment. [There's a guide I found online](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19KYfTSNpTNXCvwbcPeN3T9Cylc0AaOIqwNysmFqOmWY/edit?usp=sharing) that does a really excellent job of summarizing a lot of the critical lore path and helping you find videos or audiobooks and such.
So, to answer your question:
> Have I missed a lot of important stuff from events?
Not if you catch up in other ways. ;)
That's it.
