A day-1 player's biggest issue with this game
It's not the gacha, it's not losing 50/50s, it's not the terrible dialogue and verbose storytelling, and it's not even the time gating.
Why, dear Hoyoverse, oh why, is there an auto button in the game if I have to manually confirm every garbage dialogue non option?! By definition this is \*not\* auto! If we can't, after 5 years or however long, get a skip story option, please for the love of Judas Priest let this go away so I can just walk away while this story does what it needs to do.
I've been working through my backlog of archon chapters before Bina and Ineffa show up, and it's absolutely painful.

They'd get more money out of me if they just let me get through it to the point where I've run out of free rewards.
There are two types of content:
1. Casual quests
2. Hardcore endgame
And it would be unfair if you could skip quest and get rewards but couldnt skip endgame and get all rewards.
There are many people who for some reason go against skip button and it can trigger the big part of community who spent much time for those rewards but with skip button now it will be a wasted time.
If you were a filmmaker, and you made this really great movie- I mean you really put your heart and soul into it- would it come intuitively to you to include a “skip this part that I made” option for certain audience members? I understand that there may be aspects of the film you dislike or find less than captivating but.. given the medium I’m not certain that being upset at the filmmaker in this case would be very fair to their efforts.
In the case of Genshin’s story- you can choose not to engage with the Archon quests at all beyond Mondstadt’s minimum requirement to unlock the map. After that, adventure ranks, combat, exploration, and events are all open to you. Sure, you’ll be missing out on some quest promos but if you find the rewards uninviting I’m not sure you would feel you have been hard done by.
This is all genuine curiosity. Could you not play every aspect of the game *but* the story? Asking MiHoYo to put an option in that lets you fast track through content you don’t find engaging sounds like asking for rewards unearned in that particular instance.
EDIT:
Bonus anecdote. I am not a skilled gamer. I recently picked up the Soulslike Armored Core V. The combat in the game is very difficult but is a core mechanic of the game. Should I request that the devs add a “skip boss” option in order to accommodate my preferences? Am I asking too much or seeking the wrong experience from it? Food for thought.
- How to create an auto tool that still displays the dialog most appropriate for the situation, to maintain fluidity
- How to maintain pacing moments where a lull to think may have been important
- How to avoid skipping too often by accident if someone is slow to “unskip” during dialog choices that matter (there are some)
- How to make sure that the only incentive for story doesn’t become a slippery slope of “finish faster and faster to get rewards” until the story content becomes almost nearly completely optional
I’d be open to hear thoughts on that, but I imagine the story team at MiHoYo may balk at the thought. Definitely not saying your opinions are invalid, but I am saying that perhaps they come across strongly. :) Well phrased response, though.
Perhaps I'm just growing more cynical with age, but the 'someone is proud of it and wants you to see it' does not sound anywhere near as plausible as 'if we force you to look at this character, even against your will, you'll want them more and thus be more likely to pay for them.'
Just as people might engage with art for different reasons, artists are free to choose how they want to make and focus their art. The consequence might be that their art is less popular as it loses a segment of the population, but that's more their problem than anything else, and if they're okay with that then more power to them.
Members of the audience can say the result doesn't work for them, and that's fine not all art is for each person, but to continuously engage and then complain it still doesn't work is annoying to listen to, to say the least. The devs of this game have already made more than clear after this many years they're uninterested in catering to the people who don't want to engage with the story. Whether that's because they are okay with losing sales for their vision or because they believe this will make them more sales like you believe, either way it is what it is.
If you watch a movie on DVD or Blu-Ray, or even if you've recorded it from Satellite... there is usually a Skip Chapter option as well as FFWD>>/RRWD<< to move fast through the film if you don't want to watch something. Of course there is also the reverse of that in case you want to rewatch something. That obviously doesn't exist in the movie theatre but in the home it only doesn't exist with live tv.
There is no actual reason that games couldn't work the same way, they could skip chapters very easily. As cut-scenes are done by linear progression through a timeline then they could quite easily play them backwards as well. With a good animation system it's as easy to play animations backwards as it is forwards. Anyone who has scripted any GTAV mods (like I have) will tell you that. By adjusting the .clp animation positions you can move the animation backwards. It naturally plays forward but you can override the animation position in the .clp to change that.
Games could function like a movie but it's easier to not do that.
Keyword having the ability to rewind
Genshin doesnt have it
So why should it **only** have the ability to skip without the ability to repeat first(or backtrack if you skip too much)
