It's just the way ps5 updates. It's like it downloads the files all over again and then deletes the copy leaving only the newer version

Pre-install, always the case, every patch there is the same question/complaint. Too big? Wait for the actual day it updates. Also delete some older games already, you have 1TB at your disposal.

The big 4 gachas take up 80% of the PS5 storage by themselves. And it's 660gb or something, not a full 1tb. If players play all 4 gachas they're screwed without upgrading their storage eventually. There should be a way to delete older stuff like every other platform has.

Playstation version doesn't download the update program, which modifies the existing file like PC version. It downloads the whole new files and overwrite existing ones.

The way the PS5 does patching is one of the few ways it's a little weaker than the XBox. It seems to not be able to be set up to do 'patch in place' for a pre-download, where it could download a small patch apply it at the right moment.
Instead the ps5 basically needs to download an entire second copy of the game to 'switch' to at the right time.
I suspect that if you don't take it, and just wait until launch day, it can do a smaller patch in place. But you won't have it 'ready to go' the moment the servers come back.
Not sure though.
