Because you should be aiming for 100% anyway. The end result is the same. It's an open world game. Exploration is expected, and the rings encourage you to do it. You get materials, primos, books, crystals, XP... and as a bonus once you finish. a full set of both 5\* Natlan Artifact sets and the special item that creates artifacts too.

i've spammed the compass as much as i can, idk what else is left to explore...
nod krai exploration is so much better

You have to do the saurian challenges as well. Ring segments can be in the reward chests for those.
Use an interactive map. Ring segments can only be in Precious or Luxurious chests, so filter for those.
Ghost_Blade_2026-01-12 20:06
those do show up through the compass, i'm also done with almost all the tribal quests.
so unless there are some other quests tht i need to do, i truly am lost
KrimsonKurse2026-01-12 20:07
Plenty of chests are not reactable by the compass because they are hidden areas behind a quest, or the chest doesn't exist unless you do a trial to manifest them...or kill some enemies in the right spot, or any number of other reasons. your exploration of the Geo Tribe is only at 80%. You have Chasca's reputation quest (which unlocks several chests along the way) still visible on the map. Flower Feather clan is sub-90%. The pieces have a higher likelihood of dropping from bigger chests, too. Just explore and play the game. You will get the pieces if you engage with the game the way the game was designed. Hence, the incentives.

Do quests. Pretty much everything. I managed to get the fragments of the first 3 without a compass. You should be able to because you have a compass.
Easier way is to open the interactive map and filter the big chests. Fragments like these only appear on big chests iirc. Normal chest, i highly doubt. With a compass, most of the time you'll only detect normal chests because they're abundant. Big ones are hiding in quests and challenges.

I think it's fun, just keep exploring til you have them all and unlock nice rewards. Exploration with awesome characters is Genshin's biggest selling point to me.
Ghost_Blade_2026-01-12 19:50
oh yea it for sure is. took break from genshin just before 5.0 and came back at like 5.4 so i just got around to exploring natlan.
my only gripe is that i've spammed the compass all i can and now am lost for what to do
madnessfuel2026-01-12 20:10
I mean, even at 100% completion there are chests aplenty to be found, and seeing how you're not really there yet, I guess you're not spamming the compass well enough lol
Natlan has many chests locked behind World Quests, Hidden Quests/Objectives, etc. If you feel tired of searching, there are many guides and the interactive map to help you out! But I try my best to stay away from those. I tend to reach maximum exploration without external sources anyway, and it feels amazing to stumble onto a chest when you thought you cleared the full area already.
Hope Hoyo eventually updates old compasses with the NK mechanic, it certainly would be really nice.
Ghost_Blade_2026-01-12 20:16
yesss nk compass is so much better. especially for me who doesnt like going for a 100% completion and is rather satisfied with a \~90%, just enough to get to explore all of the map without having to pry into every nook n cranny.
madnessfuel2026-01-12 20:29
I mean, prying into every little nook and cranny is a HUGE part of the enjoyment behind exploration IMO... But to each their own. It feels very satisfying to completely fill up a map's exploration percentage...
Ghost_Blade_2026-01-13 19:21
the night wind fragment was in chasca quest and the quahuacan fragment was in octanatlan. and the treasure sanctums account for 9% and 10% exploration progress...
Apotheonosis22026-01-12 19:34
It's an additional reward system that incentivizes fully exploring the region, which you still have some work to do.
If you were after the Artifacts themselves, you'd have a better time doing their respective Domains than hunting down the Fragments.
throwway852352026-01-12 19:36
The treasure caves have 1 artifact crafting elixir each. That's the real prize.
KrimsonKurse2026-01-12 20:04
Maybe this patch it will give me a good artifact that rolls what i need! /j
Curiositykilledmoi2026-01-12 20:30
I'm not sure if I'm remembering this right since it's been a while that I've finished collecting the Natlan rings, but I think the fragments randomly appear only in precious or luxurious chests, and some of them are locked behind world quests. So it wouldn't matter if you have above 90% exploration, so long as there's still some precious or luxurious chest that you haven't opened/discovered in the region
Ghost_Blade_2026-01-13 19:18
soooo, i just got the last shards todays, the night wind one was locked behind the chasca quest, she is quahuacan ???
and the quahuacan one was in a chest in fking octanatlan ???
also barring tht one chest in octanatlan accounting for the 89->90%, the rest of the 10% exploration is the literal treasure sanctum, so much for getting berated for not having 100% and not spamming compass hard enough...
