In the livestream we saw a small scene where she talks with a kuuhenki (?) and it shows two options. One is for keeping the veil and the other is for taking it back. So I think you can actually choose to take off the veil. We'll see tomorrow I guess.

Well, I know this isn't the typical point of this kind of comment, but I do I think at least some of it is inevitable given that she went from being one of many Fatui Harbinger characters in Snezhnaya to being the star/hero of her own full story arc. Even if they did envision her a certain way originally in her more limited role, the writers would naturally have to ask "how would she change after time spent with the protagonist?" and "how would the world around change based on her own change?" Obviously some people don't like this what this appears to have meant for her character and may prefer what they imagined they might have gotten instead... but, at least at a broad level, it's pretty inevitable that the portrait of a side character is a bit different than a central character.
