What's everyone's opinion about Milliastra?
I just tried out Milliastra today after ignoring it for a while now. It's surprisingly good but I found it strange that not many people talk about it. So would love to hear everyone's thoughts on the matter.

"No one asked for this Hoyo! Why is this inside Genshin instead of being it's own game? I'm being forced to download 50gb of Miliastra stuff, this is unacceptable! We're not having map expansions because Miliastra is eating Genshin resources! They'll stop giving free primogems to give free Miliastra currency instead"
And some other stupid crap that I might not remember anymore.
Map expansion goes according to the story. Natlan also had less map expansions than other regions for example.
For example, Simulanka isn't playable anymore, but it's assets never left our devices.
I don't think Simulanka will ever be removed as they will use it from time to time. Like Durin's quest, Moon prayer night and anything Hexenzirkel.
Some assets can also be used in the teapot or reused in unique domains.
The size of MW is miniscule compared to the main game.
People really don't understand, or don't want to understand, that all Miliastra does is use assets we always had.
Once we get to play TDs and other fun modes with comprehensive UI without all the gimmicks, it will start to shine.
It’s like if Call of Duty created a farming simulator
I know there's a separate team working on Miliastra but it's just so easy to blame it as the fault for any patch from here on out for being empty.
Let's just hope HoYo will make Miliastra hard to blame for any inconveniences from this point onwards.
It sounds more like this is an excuse to be used by players, not Hoyo. Using MW as a scapegoat for features they imagine they WOULD have gotten, if only Hoyo would have put those devs to work on the main game instead.
Conveniently unprovable, of course - players have been using this form of scapegoating LONG before MW was a thing. They see feature Y added to the game, and complain long and loud about how they COULD have gotten feature X if only the devs weren't wasting so much time on feature Y.
I mean, they already did. Jahoda's kit is detached to her character design— she has a magnet polarity theme but her kit doesn't even have a sliver of that mechanic. But no one else questioned it because she's a Sucrose side-grade for Lunar reactions. They even made that Bobik world boss have Pyro gauge instead of kuuvahki mechanics like its lesser version of mobs. This is the first strike I've seen so far and I will be tallying it like a motherfucker.
Mika, Dahlia, Dehya, Xinyan, just for starters, all previous to Miliastra, all disasters just like Jahoda.
Miliastra is your scapegoat. As you just admitted, all mistakes henceforth will be the fault of MW. Doesn't mean there's any actual truth or logic to it, of course - just a hater hatin'!
Not sure what you mean by this. Yeah gachas are made to earn money but usually they develop stuff to justify you spending it, limited characters, weapons, quests and events while Milliastra would be a bunch of nothing if it weren't for the players.
Also people make incredible mini games in Milliastra, meanwhile mini games developed by the actual developers of the game: 4 people controlling saurians walking around gathering coins for the 18th time...
yep, that's why skins are completely separate from the gameplay itself and they create new things that main game doesn't have, constantly update it with actually good stuff for creators and even plan to do stuff that might improve main game (like the fact that they mentioned improving latency and such for co-op stages, which is likely to bleed into main game co-op improvements too, or highly likely reuse of some MW stuff for NPCs and such)
"people are literally doing their job for them with the minigames. "
Aside from this sentiment just being applicable to ANYTHING with a creator tool, those who do good job actually get paid AND probably have a good chance of being hired by Hoyo if they see potential. Other UGC games and the like, for example Minecraft, have had such stuff happen
"Milliastra is carried by all the players that make the really fun minigames."
It's almost as if this is the purpose of UGC. It's almost as if people liked divine ingenuity (Mario maker) event and wanted it permanent. It's almost as if Hoyo literally said they plan to make it permanent in 3.8 Dev discussion notes. It's almost as if this is the result of more developed idea to not only allow people to make simple stages but give them a lot more tools to be creative.
Like, I get if you don't care for it, nobody forcing you to. But people like you literally make up reasons to hate it cuz it's not for you. Is the concept of there being people with preferences other than yours and hoyo creating something for them is so abhorrent?
(I could also touch on your other reply with saurian events and such, of which we had a whopping TWO since Natlan (the horror) but I think the point is already made, considering the mode literally came from an event Hoyo had made previously)
Personally, I'm not really a fan of the current UGC that we have, like it's cool and all but why would I play a 5-minute Animal Crossing ripoff and not just play Animal Crossing? So many of the games we have so far are just simple copies of other games, and while it's impressive that someone recreated that level of gameplay, it's still inferior to the original 99% of the time. Plus, it's a UGC game-mode, the good stuff is gonna take time to develop and polish. In a year, there'll be a ton of fun gamemodes I'm sure, but right now there's nothing that innovative or special. And I'm not enough of a social person to enjoy that aspect of it with 'Genshin friends'.
But next patch we'll be able to make stages for actual Genshin combat, using real characters. That opens up so many more possibilities in my mind. One big issue with Genshin has always been that you pull all these cool characters, and the only thing that you actually use them for is daily grinding (way too easy) and endgame (like 2 hours a month, tops, and too hard for most characters casually). Having a toolbox to make all sorts of new places and scenarios to use all those characters you pulled for sounds like a lot more fun. I just hope we get more access to more enemy types, even some of the Weekly Bosses to make like a Dire-level version would be fun (for me).
I treat it almost like mario party bunch of minigames. Also God bless combat and whoever made the combat dummy best thing ever
While there are really good experiences, MW is still long away from being pretty worth while putting time in, for me at least.
Like i said in another post, if Hoyo or some miracle developer manages to make a progression-saving system within their games (not the clothing stuff), then ill consider playing it again; like ur progression in a FPS game being saved and unlocking gear for the future
So, technically, MW is using main game assets, but some of them are actually added because of MW.
I hate including fashion that clearly has nothing to do with world building, the game modes are basically just non-Genshin games within Genshin that I'd rather play elsewhere, and the gacha for the cosmetics just looks really predatory when compared to Genshin's main wishing system and feels bad.
If you're interested in playing Roblox and Infinity Nikki at the same time, you'd probably love this mode. I hate both of those games and want nothing to do with them, so I don't want anything to do with Miliastra as well. Will try and let the free upcoming skin expire in my mail so I don't have to own more of that junk.
Then the maps themselves are getting better overtime, making the game mode only grow in the future. Monetization and some decisions they made with cosmetics (whether it’s crafting materials, separating same design by color, or having male/female versions of certain sets that are separate) are the only negatives i really have about it. Monetization is why i will never spend on the mode unless it is the by product of getting the battle pass, but I’m loving how my f2p manekina looks.
...and everyone just copies something else.
Deleted my roblox and played this instead.
Its nice to see other players creating their own games.
I like the cosmetics but i dont play miliastra enough to get them either :’)
But maybe the maid/butler free set will encourage me to speed dailies next patch at least
I like exploration and puzzles, and i dislike co op. That's why I play genshin. I don't want weird tangents in this game which increase the game size, especially if it takes time away from the main game. I know that it's a separate dev team, but they still control the amount of content given out to players to not overwhelm them. Nefers patch felt like it had nothing to do after the AQ and i blame MW >:u
But now I have other priorities in other stuff including other games or hobbies over it, so I'm not invested.
They should have just made an entirely new game. I play Genshin to play GENSHIN.
the minigames available rn dont interest me at all, maybe that'll change, as players learn and understand the creation tools better and eventually a minigame will pop-up that blows me away.
The manekins are just let downs, i get that thier whole purpose is to be avatars. but then why did they put them in the base game, only to give the garbage kits? not only that, but why are they separate characters if they do the same thing?? if they truly count towards the 17 characters we're supposed to get during version 6.x (which based on the sillouhette teaser from the 6.3 livestream it seems like they do count) then thats incredibly lazy of hoyo. i would rather have gotten 2 fully designed, unique characters, instead of 2 copypasted dressup dolls whose only noteworthy gimmick is showcaseing outfits.
speaking of outfits.... the main way they make money from Milliastra is through the outfits and the costume gacha. the costumes themselves look very nice and are of good quality. however, you're forced to spend real money on them if you want them. playing the gamemode only gets you the basic stuff. this is similair to Roblox. however the key difference is that you have to pull for the outfits on the gacha. and considering you can't earn the currency from playing the mode, these outfits have an excessive pricetag. why would i spend 100€ on currency to get an outfit for Manekin, when i can spend that same amout on primogems and get either a new character, weapon or a constellation for my favourite character??? i could justify it if Manekin was a halfdecent unit, or an actual character.
Oh I also dislike that so many of the quests revolve around playing with friends, which I don't have lmao
There were so many Worlds that resembled Indie Mobile Games and PC Disk Games. XD
Sadly, monetization is abysmal. Gendered cloth is stupid AF, too many currencies, the f2p currency can only pull on the standard banner, you don't pull outfits, you pull recipes to craft, and apparently you have to get outfit dupes for alternative/colored versions. It's hella confusing and predatory at every step. Any now I have a permanent icon on my Genshin UI and my Paimon-Menu has 20 more elements and a scroll bar. I want a toggle to remove the the stuff like the one TCG has.
Until that's changed i won't touch it.
A Roblox-like game mode pretty heavily favors social, multiplayer types of games where you can ignore the lack of polish often present in user-created content so long as the social gameplay is fun - but I'm not fond of social gameplay in general. I prefer single-player stuff, and when I DO dip into multiplayer, I much prefer gameplay that's cooperative rather than competitive.
All that said, there have been a few diamonds I've found in the rough, enough to keep me interested. I do enjoy collecting outfits - even if I tend to go back to the same "signature look" after a while. It doesn't bother me at all that some outfits are behind a paywall. I'm LONG used to cosmetics being cash only.
Most of all, even if it's not really my cup of tea, I appreciate that it may well bring new players into the game for whom it IS their cup of tea. Fresh blood is VITAL for long-running live service games. Innovations like this are necessary for the health of the game.
