Lumine and Aether's new outfits are based on the opposite twin's original outfits

Super cool. I feel the comparison rather speaks for itself, but just for emphasis, we can see new Aether has original Lumine's pure-white with a hint of grey, light blue, and black colour palette, while new Lumine has original Aether's off-white, dark brown, and yellow/gold colours.
 
It carries over to physical features too. The design under original Lumine's bust (the glowy part) can be found slightly higher, just under new Aether's neck. New Aether also has one of Lumine's flowers on his jacket, as well as those very distinctive forearm guards (vambrace, I believe is the term). The way his jacket flairs out also mirrors original Lumine's not-actually-a-dress, and so on.
Similarly, the metal round/diamond thing with three spikes out the bottom on original Aether's chest can be found (slightly smaller) in basically exactly the same place on new Lumine, and we also have the split cape/scarf sort of thing. It looks like she has the white scarf with circular clasp too, though it's hard to see from this angle.
 
If we ever get the Abyss sibling as a playable character (please!), the twins would look *amazing* in "opposite" (thus actually matching) outfits. Both sets are great, but I'll definitely be running original Lumine and new Aether.

Well, considering I had assumed [the official post this morning was the first time we learned that the twins are getting outfits](https://old.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact/comments/1qbnmln/new_traveler_outfit_additional_talent/), and not a single of the hundred comments (or thousand upvotes) there implied anything about the designs resembling the originals (despite lots of opinions on the designs themselves), I figured people hadn't noticed.
It does seem "obvious" in hindsight once you notice, especially if you see them side by side, but this community very frequently misses *far* more obvious design/storytelling/etc things than this...
 
And at the end of the day, if at least one person learns about this when they hadn't known about it before, that's a win. And it's a nice excuse for everyone to talk about the outfits again. :)

I hope that the Sibling changes their outfit too. I play Lumine, and the new outfit for Aether almost feels tailored for the Abyss Prince! Even has an Inteyvat lol.

I guess it depends what the story context ends up being. While I'm not close to being caught up on the story, and as a few other people have politely pointed out I may be somewhat out of the loop more generally, I see two broad possibilities for the new outfits:
* The outfit(s) are new in-universe. Most likely meaning Traveler had an outfit made (or someone else did as a gift) which is deliberately styled after their twin's outfit. This would also likely mean that the other new outfit doesn't canonically exist, as it would strain credulity that the Abyss twin *also* fashioned themselves a new outfit which looks like their twin's, and at exactly the same time.
* The outfits are *not* new in-universe. All four outfits have always existed as part of the twins' wardrobe, and they just so happened to be wearing non-matching outfits when their spaceship crash-landed on Teyvat (whatever exactly happened). This left the other "half" of each set sitting in storage inside their ship for a few hundred years, until I guess one or both of them finds the ship and one or both decide to swap outfits while there.

The two styles definitely do fit that way around the best. Had this been implemented from the start, it would have been kinda neat for old-Aether/new-Lumine to always be the Traveler and old-Lumine/new-Aether to always be the Abyss Prince(ss).
Though selfishly I'm glad it isn't this way, as I'm a huge fan of the "Abyss" outfit pair.

In a way that'd be nice, but as weapons are really an extension of character design, I'd prefer they just be a bit more consistent at depicting proper canon weapons (for all characters) in gameplay/cutscenes/media/etc.
They tend to get it right like 80-90% of the time, just not quite entirely consistently though. Traveler is slightly messier than everyone else, but it still applies to them.

yeah I wish they kept the light/dark contrast of the twins and made lumine's dress dark instead of just being accents. In MY personal opinion, their implementation of Aether's colors on Lumine makes the design look kinda muddy.

Agreed, and this is pretty much my feelings on a lot of Genshin's designs over time as well. Even at 1.0 all the characters were quite fancy/ornate/"busy", and they've definitely gotten even more so since then.
